BREAKING NEWS Donald Trump rips into 'stupid' NFL owners as he weighs in on Shedeur Sanders snub in bizarre draft rant

Daily Mail25-04-2025
Donald Trump has delivered his verdict on the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft and team owners have found themselves in the firing line.
The first round of the draft took place in Green Bay Thursday night where former Miami quarterback Cam Ward was taken No. 1 overall by the Tennessee Titans as expected.
However, one of the biggest shocks of the night came when Shedeur Sanders was left on the board after being snubbed by multiple teams and ultimately plummeting out of the first round.
And the president was left seething over the decision from the league's franchises to overlook the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback and son of NFL legend Deion Sanders.
'What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?' Trump wrote in his latest Truth Social rant. 'Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He's also a very good coach, streetwise and smart!
'Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be 'picked' IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!'
Sanders had been tipped by some - including his father - to be a top-five pick but Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart were the only quarterbacks selected.
Ward was taken first overall by the Tennessee Titans, while the Giants - who had been strongly linked with Sanders - went for ex-Ole Miss QB Dart. The Pittsburgh Steelers also opted against the quarterback.
There had been speculation ahead of the draft that Sanders' stock had tanked among certain teams.
His character in particular had been targeted following the combine, with the quarterback reportedly branded 'brash' and 'arrogant' following interviews.
Concerns about Sanders' arm strength have become an issue in recent weeks, too, though his father - Hall of Famer Sanders - laughed off that notion.
In 50 collegiate games, Sanders threw for 14,347 yards, with 134 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. He completed 70.1 percent of his passes and ran for 17 more scores.
Sanders will have a second chance to be selected Friday night in the second and third rounds and if NFL owners obey Trump's orders, he could go as high as 33rd or 37th with the Cleveland Browns or Tom Brady's Las Vegas Raiders.

Colts RB Salvon Ahmed carted off practice field

August 3 - Indianapolis Colts running back Salvon Ahmed sustained an apparent severe injury to his right leg during practice on Sunday and was carted off the practice field. The severity of the injury was not immediately known for Ahmed, who was injured after being dragged down from behind by undrafted safety Trey Washington. Practice immediately was stopped after the tackle as trainers rushed to Ahmed. They placed his leg in an air cast while Washington could be seen being consoled by his teammates. Ahmed, 26, last played in an NFL game in 2023. He spent last season on the practice squads of the Denver Broncos and Colts. Ahmed has 163 carries for 593 yards and five touchdowns in 38 career games (four starts) for the Miami Dolphins. --Field Level Media

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams savaged by fans after embarrassing practice video goes viral

Caleb Williams has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after a humiliating practice video of the Chicago Bears quarterback surfaced on social media. Williams, who is gearing up for his second season with the Bears after being drafted first overall last year, suffered disaster when carrying out a standard passing drill at Chicago's training camp this week. Footage shows him trying to throw four balls at three different targets and missing almost every time, before he turns around and screams in frustration. And after watching the clip of his nightmare practice drill, NFL fans quickly ripped into the 23-year-old online. 'Absolutely terrible feet and he is not driving the ball with his hips. Class dismissed,' one user wrote on X. Another put: 'How are you a pro QB missing that bad'. A third brutally claimed: 'There's third graders who can do this.' #Bears QB Case Keenum said Caleb Williams has been grinding and "wants it." His reaction to not completing this drill as he would have liked in today's practice seems to illustrate that very point. #DaBears — Josh Buckhalter (@JoshGBuck) August 2, 2025 'Not one of those was close,' said a fourth. While one simply posted: 'This is hilarious'. Williams showed plenty of promise in his rookie season with the Bears, but it was a disastrous campaign overall for his team They endured a 10-game losing streak which saw Matt Eberflus fired as head coach. Chicago ended the season on a miserable 5-12 record, last in the NFC North. On an individual note, Williams registered 3,541 passing yards for 20 touchdowns in 17 appearances, while racking up a 62.5 percent pass completion rate. He also had 489 rushing yards. The former USC college star was sacked a league-high 68 times in his rookie campaign, 16 times more than Houston Texans' CJ Stroud - who was the second most sacked quarterback last season. Williams will be hoping that figure drops in 2025 after the Bears bolstered their offensive line by trading for guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, while agreeing to terms with center Drew Dalman.

Bills coach: WR Khalil Shakir, CB Maxwell Hairston 'week-to-week'

August 3 - Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir and rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston are considered "week-to-week" as they work their way back from their respective injuries, coach Sean McDermott said Sunday. Shakir is nursing a high-ankle sprain sustained in practice on Friday, while Hairston injured the LCL in his knee last week. Shakir, 25, received a four-year contract extension worth just over $53 million this offseason after recording team-leading totals in catches (76) and receiving yards (821) in 2024. He also had four touchdown receptions. In three playoff games, Shakir added 18 catches for 174 yards. The Bills were eliminated in the AFC Championship Game, losing 32-29 to the Kansas City Chiefs. Hairston, who turns 22 on Wednesday, was selected by the Bills with the 30th overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Kentucky. He is competing for a significant role in the Buffalo secondary. He was the fastest player at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in the 40-yard dash (4.28 seconds). --Field Level Media
