Striking Genesis concepts showcase future of luxury brand
Two striking new Genesis concepts spawned from the Korean luxury brand's G90 flagship showcase its 'new chapter'.
Unveiled at the Seoul motor show, the X Gran Coupé and X Gran Convertible have been created to 'demonstrate the brand's future position' and arrive 10 years after it was spun out of Hyundai.
Both concepts clearly resemble the donor limousine (such as with the classic twin-lightbar design up front and at the back) and have been created to show that there is a place within the Genesis lineup in which to to expand with niche model derivatives.
'In a time when people think only about one single typology of vehicle I think it is important to make sure that we have different [variants] in the lineup," design boss Luc Donckerwolke told journalists at the motor show.
"We don't do show cars for the sake of doing show cars.
'The reasoning behind [the concepts] is making derivatives of the G90 which share the same platform, so it is cars that could be integrated into the lineup; but the business case will basically be the one that shows [if it will be] - but we have had enough interest to be positive about it."
What's more, features such as the frameless windows, pillarless doors and the extensive use of quilted materials inside appear near-production ready, also suggesting the cars are showcasing elements that will trickle down to road cars.
The pair build on the trio of two-door X Concepts that Genesis revealed in 2021 and 2022, in what is described by Genesis as a way to 'express the brand's facets of exclusive sportiness and luxurious elegance'.
That luxury positioning is taken a step further here. For example, both new concepts are littered with crystals across the steering wheel, centre console and air vents that when hit by sunlight 'create captivating displays'.
The cloth-roofed convertible in particular is presented in a way to 'capture the spirit of fine wines', with an exterior colour that represents pressed grapes and an interior that 'echoes the deep, rich hues of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Livorno region of Italy'.
This luxury positioning can also be seen from the aluminium-spoked steering wheel, screens that are embedded into the rear of the front seats and the use of microperforated olive wood.
Underneath, Donckerwolke confirmed the cars use the short-wheelbase configuration of the G90's platform and, although they're just static show cars, draw power from the same 409bhp mild-hybrid setup centered around a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine.
The G90 - currently only sold in Germany and Switzerland in Europe – isn't offered as an electric car and no plans to electrify it have been announced.
Genesis recently rolled back on plans to go electric-only and instead will bolster its global line-up with hybrids.

Winklevoss-led exchange Gemini files for IPO amid crypto boom
The public market for crypto companies is heating up. On the heels of Circle's monster debut on the New York Stock Exchange, another firm is following in its steps, with Gemini announcing on Friday that it has confidentially filed for an initial public offering. Founded by the Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler, in 2014, Gemini is one of the longest-operating U.S. crypto companies, though it has never reached the scale of competitors like Coinbase. Though Gemini's main product is its exchange, which allows users to buy and sell popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, it offers other services, including custody and staking. Like other crypto companies, Gemini has endured a rocky relationship with regulators, especially after its failed partnership with Genesis, the former subsidiary of the crypto conglomerate Digital Currency Group, led to a messy series of lawsuits and enforcement actions from state and federal agencies. Despite the hiccups, Gemini is aiming to ride the wave of investor interest in crypto, driven by the Trump administration's embrace of the sector. The Winklevoss twins were outspoken supporters of Trump's bid for a second term, with each personally donating $1 million in Bitcoin to his campaign. They appeared at the White House when Trump hosted the first-ever crypto summit in March. In a press release, a Gemini spokesperson said that the IPO will occur after the Securities and Exchange Commission has conducted its review. Famous for their spat with Mark Zuckerberg over the founding of Facebook, the Winklevoss twins plotted their next act in cryptocurrency, embracing Bitcoin before it was a popular asset class. They founded Gemini soon after Coinbase came to the market, earning one of the first crypto licenses granted by the New York Department of Financial Services in 2015. Despite the company's early mover status, it struggled to gain a top market hold amid regulatory obstacles. The Winklevoss twins were the first to apply for a spot Bitcoin ETF with the SEC in 2013 as they were setting up Gemini, though the bid did not gain approval. And its decision to create an investment vehicle called Gemini Earn with Genesis amid the crypto boom in 2021 proved to be disastrous. Through the product, Gemini users could lend their cryptocurrency to the firm for yields up to 13%. On the backend, Gemini lent the assets to Genesis, which in turn lent them to other firms like the hedge fund Three Arrows Capital and Sam Bankman-Fried's FTX. After many of these companies went belly-up in 2022, the assets were frozen, leading to the bankruptcy of DCG's lending arm, Genesis, and an ugly legal dispute between Gemini and DCG. While the two companies ultimately returned capital to Gemini's users, the episode still resulted in enforcement actions from the SEC, as well as the New York Department of Financial Services and the New York Attorney General. In the wake of the regulatory crackdown, the Winklevoss twins supported Trump's crypto-friendly campaign. Along with their appearance at the White House digital assets summit, CNBC reported that the Winklevoss twins are founding members of a new private membership club in Washington, D.C., founded by Donald Trump Jr. Gemini's public announcement of its IPO filing comes just one day after Circle's public market debut, which saw the stablecoin issuer's stock pop over 168%. Redesigned 2026 Kia K4 Spied In California Ahead Of Debut
The 2026 Kia K4 has been spotted on American roads completely undisguised (since we already know what it looks like), heralding an imminent launch for the automaker's surprisingly popular sedan, which has helped Kia achieve remarkable sales this year. Its distinctive design hasn't hurt sales, but the Korean automaker is already making significant changes to its styling, and this test mule appearing on Orange County roads without any camouflage means those changes are almost ready to reach the dealer. The current Kia K4 has headlights that stretch in three directions: toward the rear of the fenders, toward the bottom of the bumper, and toward the center of the front fascia. Similarly, the rear end has a taillight setup where the housings have both vertical and horizontal bars, which almost creates the commonplace full-width lightbar. For the new model, that quirky design has improved somewhat, as the headlights are now simpler and more upright, which gives us EV9 vibes. At the rear, the taillights now stretch into the fenders, and the horizontal accents have been removed. A pair of small spoilers on either end of the rear windshield also appear to be new. With minimal white vinyl on elements like the bumpers, door handles, charging port, rear fenders, and side skirts, as well as what appear to be production wheels (missing their center caps, though), this K4 sedan prototype seems like the finished product. Although we've hardly seen the new K4 anywhere on the internet, this may already be our last preview, as the new design is expected to arrive for the 2026 model year. Hopefully, it will retain the attractive pricing of the pre-facelift version, which starts at a scarcely believable $21,990, before destination and handling. With the effects of tariffs still casting doubt on pricing, speculating on how much the MSRP may change is probably fruitless, but a small increase seems likely. If you don't mind the current design (seen below), there will probably be some good incentives for the 2025 model when the 2026 variant arrives at dealers. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc.
