Ex-Arsenal player Thomas Partey charged with five counts of rape
Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, days after leaving Arsenal.
The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed that the recently-departed Gunners midfielder will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday August 5, reports the Mirror.
The 32-year-old was released by Arsenal on July 1 following the expiry of his contract.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, whose team is leading the investigation, said: "Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward.
"We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team. You can contact detectives about this investigation by emailing CIT@met.police.uk."
The Met has issued a breakdown of the charges. Partey has been charged on two counts of rape which relate to one woman, three counts of rape relating to a second woman, and one count of sexual assault relating to a third woman.
The offences are alleged to have taken place between 2021 and 2022. An investigation by detectives commenced in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape.
Partey joined Arsenal from Spanish heavyweights Atletico Madrid after the Gunners paid his £45million release clause in September 2020.

Gareth Davies also sent a series of messages on Facebook telling the girl how pretty she was and asking her about sex. Swansea Crown Court heard the 64-year-old boasted that he had previously been acquitted of rape while other allegations against him had not been proceeded with, and he referred to himself as "Teflon Taff". The court heard that in reality Davies was communicating with a member of so-called paedophile hunter group operating a decoy account on Facebook and that members of the group later tracked him down to the boat he was living on. When arrested the defendant denied the messages he had been sending were sexual, a stance he maintained during his trial and to the author of the pre-sentence report following his conviction by a jury. Ashanti-Jade Walton, prosecuting, had previously told the court that in November last year Davies made contact with the profile of a 14-year-old girl on Facebook. The girl's account was actually being operated by a woman acting as part of a so-called paedophile hunter group, and she made her purported age clear to the defendant but continued with the interactions. The court heard that in the messages Davies told the girl she was pretty and said he had been "showing her off" to others. He told her she was his "special friend" and he referred to himself as her "cyber uncle". The court also heard Davies asked what he thought was a girl about whether she had had sex yet, telling her the first time would hurt but "if it is done right the pain will be very short and extreme ecstasy". Article continues below The prosecutor said Davies then recorded a clip of himself singing the Coldplay love song Yellow and sent it to the girl, and talked about travelling to Yorkshire to meet the "girl". The defendant was arrested and taken to Swansea Central police station. In interview Davies accepted exchanging messages with the Facebook profile in question but said there was nothing sexual in the messages and said the pair were just friends. He also said he had a "dead c**k" and was asexual and therefore was not attracted to anyone. Gareth Davies, now of a hostel on Castle Street in Swansea city centre, had previously been convicted at trial of attempted sexual communications with a child when he appeared in the dock for sentencing. He has six previous convictions for nine offences including stalking without fear of violence from 2018 - this offending had seen him attending at the complainant's house and making a series of sexual comments. He also has a caution for harassment which involved him sending sexual messages to people on Facebook. He noted the author of the pre-sentence report had commented on how the defendant had shown a "great deal of cunning" in the messages he had sent the decoy which, in the main, had not been explicitly sexual in content but which had a sexual "subtext". Article continues below The judge said based on everything he knew about Davies he considered him to be a dangerous offender but said the sentencing range open to him for the offending before the court did not allow him to impose and extended sentence. Davies was sentenced to 18 months in prison - he will serve up to half that period in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. He was also placed on the sex offenders register.

Arsenal have released a statement after the Gunners former midfielder, Thomas Partey, was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. He departed the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, following the expiration of his contract in North London. Partey joined Arsenal from Spanish club Atletico Madrid in September 2020 after the Gunners paid his £45million release clause. The Ghana international went on to make a total of 167 appearances, scoring nine goals and registering seven assists. In a short statement released to the BBC on Friday night, Arsenal said: "The player's contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club is unable to comment on the case." Clinic 'offers cosmetic surgery procedures with no medical qualifications'
A woman with allegedly no verified UK medical credentials was caught offering both upper and lower eyelid procedures inside what appeared to be a dingy, non-sterile flat above a restaurant in Liverpool An undercover investigation has exposed the potential dangers of unregulated cosmetic clinics after a TV reporter was offered surgical procedures by a woman with reportedly no recognised medical qualifications in the UK. In the report, 5 News booked an appointment with a woman who allegedly has no verified UK medical credentials. Footage shows the reporter being offered both upper and lower eyelid procedures inside what appeared to be a dingy, non-sterile flat above a restaurant in Liverpool City Centre. The appointment was arranged within minutes via text, according to 5 News. However, the reporter only received the exact location 48 hours before the procedure - a flat where the woman and an assistant appeared ready to carry out the surgeries using local anaesthetic, and accepting only cash. During the appointment, the woman was reportedly prepared to begin without carrying out basic safety protocols. No medical consultation or patient history was taken, and when questioned about her credentials, she refused to confirm whether she had any. When asked by the reporter whether she was a doctor or how many surgeries she had previously performed, the woman also declined to answer. 5 News has shown its findings to Health Secretary Wes Streeting, who vowed to urgently examine the legal loopholes that allowed unqualified individuals to perform risky surgical procedures that can result in life-changing harm. Responding to the footage, Mr Streeting said: 'This is an extremely concerning case you've raised with me, and I will go away now and look at the laws in place to make sure that we don't have loopholes that enable this kind of unsafe and unregulated practice.' Leading UK eye surgeons warn that when performed incorrectly, eyelid surgery can cause permanent scarring, infection - and even blindness. Despite these risks, it remains legal in the UK for anyone to perform cosmetic surgery, as long as they do not falsely claim to be a registered doctor or surgeon. Campaigners argue that this loophole puts lives in danger and are calling on the Government to take immediate action. One of the procedures on offer - upper blepharoplasty, which involves removing excess eyelid skin to create a more youthful appearance - has surged in popularity due to social media platforms like TikTok and Facebook. According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), it's now the UK's third most popular cosmetic procedure and the fastest-growing among women. 5 News has also obtained new data showing a 65% increase in complaints about backstreet surgery over the past year - rising from 404 from 2021–2023, to 667 from 2024–2025.
