Iowa football passing attack receives promising preseason prediction
The Hawkeyes haven't had a quarterback pass for more than 2,000 yards in a season since Nate Stanley in 2019. That threshold should be the floor for any non-military academy college football team these days, but Iowa has struggled to even reach that bar.
However, the arrival of a new quarterback this offseason has fans and media members optimistic that Iowa's passing attack will be at least average in 2025. And one media outlet is predicting it to be even better.
Pro Football Network shared one bold prediction for each Big Ten team heading into the 2025 season. Some of their predictions call for disastrous seasons (i.e., Maryland going winless in conference play) and others give a more rosy outlook (i.e., Indiana returning to the College Football Playoff).
Hawkeye fans will be pretty excited to see what Pro Football Network had to say about Iowa.
What is Iowa's bold prediction for 2025?
Pro Football Network predicted Iowa to have an above-average passing game in 2025, which is music to Hawkeye fans' ears.
It's been decades since the Iowa Hawkeyes fielded an excellent passing attack. Despite that, they've put together four double-digit season win totals in the last 10 years, primarily based on the strength of their defense. Quarterback play has been erratic and underwhelming, to say the least.
But come 2025, enter new QB Mark Gronowski, tasked with uplifting a dormant passing offense. The most prolific passer in South Dakota State Jackrabbits program history across four seasons, the 6'3″, 230-pounder already has an accomplished college football career.
With that experience and track record, as he's thrown 93 touchdowns versus just 20 interceptions (plus 37 scores on the ground) in his career, the Hawkeyes are set to trot out one of the top signal-callers in the Big Ten. With one of the top half passing offenses in the conference, watch out for the Hawkeyes to make some noise come November and potentially into December. -Pro Football Network.
A lot of the optimism for the Hawkeyes' passing offense comes from Mark Gronowski and his ability to elevate a passing attack that's been dormant this entire decade. While it's still unknown how he'll make the switch from the FCS to the FBS level, there's real excitement about bringing in a guy with a proven track record of great quarterback play at a premier FCS program.
Hawkeye fans don't have to wait long to see if Pro Football Network's prediction comes to fruition, with kickoff of the season opener just over a month away. Gronowski, Tim Lester, and the rest of the offense will have a chance to get things going and into a rhythm against Albany on Aug. 30 before a tough road test at Iowa State on Sept. 6.

Former Iowa women's basketball player lands first coaching job
Following a four-year career mostly in a reserve role for the Iowa women's basketball program, former Hawkeyes forward/center AJ Ediger is now listed as a graduate assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UW-Milwaukee) Panthers women's basketball squad. The 6-foot-2, native of Hudsonville, Michigan played a total of 68 games for the Hawkeyes from 2021 to 2025, where she averaged just 1.7 points on 57.6% from the floor and 65.5% from the free-throw line to go along with 1.0 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.1 steals in 3:49 of action per game. Ediger would also finish her Hawkeyes career with three blocks. While Ediger came in off the bench mainly when the results of games were essentially determined, the graduate assistant role in Milwaukee will provide her with valuable skills that she could use to advance herself in the field of coaching, if that is what she desires. Regardless of her future endeavors beyond this upcoming season, Ediger is another example of a former Hawkeye taking their love for the game of basketball to the next level. Matthew Berry's Overall Top 200 for 2025 fantasy football season
With proven mobility on the ground and an improved offensive line in place, Caleb Williams is firmly on the radar as a contender for Matthew Berry's 2025 'Ride or Die' pick. With NFL training camps now in full swing and preseason just around the corner, here are my Top 200 overall players for the 2025 fantasy football season. While these rankings are obviously adaptable, they are intended for 1 QB redraft leagues with full PPR scoring. This big board should also always be used in conjunction with my positional rankings, which you can find here (link). Early on in drafts it's easy to simply take the best player available, but as you get into the later rounds, you're going to need to balance your roster and prioritize individual positions. And remember, you know your league better than I do, so adjust as needed. My rankings tend to skew WR heavy, but if your league loves to draft RBs early, you need to account for that. It doesn't make sense to start your team with Nico Collins and Brian Thomas Jr. if you think the best player available for the next five rounds will also be a WR. You're better off taking Derrick Henry or De'Von Achane with at least one of those picks and scooping up the WR value later. Similarly, I tend to be very high on rookies – it's the easiest way to find upside late in drafts. But if you're in a league that is more cautious with rookies, understand that you can likely get Tre Harris and Jayden Higgins a lot later than I have them ranked. I'll continue to adjust these rankings throughout August as news comes out and depth charts change so make sure to check back for the latest updates. And as always, please let me know what you think of the rankings – what you agree with, what you don't – on social media where I am @MatthewBerryTMR on all platforms (X/Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky) except the Bleacher Nation Fantasy App where I am merely @MatthewBerry. I'm sure you have opinions on who is too high and who is too low, so hit me up! Matthew Berry's Top 200 Overall Rankings
