With no railway gate, foot overbridge, or underpass, people were forced to walk across the tracks illegally.
Following repeated representations and inspections, Southern Railway approved a pedestrian underpass of 3m to connect Thokkottu with Olapete, said speaker and Mangaluru MLA UT Khader. The underpass will be built for Rs 2 crore, he said. "The access from Thokkottu to Olapete is a major stretch that connects the national highway with Ullal town.
However, the railway tracks on the stretch cause inconvenience for thousands of people, including students and residents.
They are forced to cross the railway track on the stretch to access markets, schools, colleges, mosques, temples, and churches. Although the railway department long demanded the closure of the level crossing due to safety concerns and past mishaps, local authorities so far maintained access in consideration of public convenience," the MLA said.

"With the railway department giving approval for constructing the underpass, the work will be taken up within three to four months. Once completed, pedestrians and two-wheelers will be allowed," he added. Ullal Students Union, in association with various like-minded organisations, held protests to draw the attention of the people's representatives and the railways to the demands of an underpass. Organisations also submitted memoranda to people's representatives and officials in the past.

BJP was never mum on Prajwal Revanna case, says Union Minister Pralhad Joshi
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday said the BJP was never silent on former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who got life imprisonment in a rape case. The leader said the BJP has always maintained that whoever commits a crime should be punished. "There is a law in the country and whoever has done mistake or has committed crime, the court has examined and court has given the verdict. It has to be accepted by everybody," Joshi told reporters. When he was told that Congress leaders are alleging that the BJP is keeping mum on the issue because of its Alliance with the JD(S), he said, "Where have we kept mum and why we have to keep mum? I have already spoken on it. If somebody does something wrong he has to face action." "Are there not people in the Congress Party who committed heinous crime like this and they were with the Congress Party previously? They were with the Prime Minister. Yasin Malik was with the then Prime Minister. There are many people. I don't want to name much people," Joshi charged. The former Hassan MP was on Saturday sentenced to prison term for the remainder of his life, while the court slapped an overall fine of Rs 11.50 lakh on him, directing that Rs 11.25 lakh of it be paid to the victim woman, a domestic help of the accused family. The court had on Friday convicted the 34-year-old grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) patriarch H D Deve Gowda in one of the four sexual abuse and rape cases against him. The BJP and the JD(S) are alliance partners and its state president H D Kumaraswamy is a Union Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi led central government. Regarding the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's proposed agitation in Bengaluru on August 5, the Minister wondered what the protest was about. He said whenever Congress wins elections, it never complains but it blames Electronic Voting Machines or the Election Commission itself for losing polls.

Cincinnati street brawl: Vivek Ramaswamy donates to attack victim 'Holly'; fundraiser tops $100K
Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has made a significant donation to a GiveSendGo fundraiser supporting a woman named Holly, who was assaulted during a violent mob attack in downtown Cincinnati. The incident, which went viral, showed Holly being punched while trying to help another victim during the chaotic street brawl. American commentator and YouTuber Benny Johnson shared a screenshot of Ramaswamy's donation, writing on X, "Wow. @VivekGRamaswamy just made an incredibly generous donation to Holly's GiveSendGo. Thank you to all who've shown up for her. 100% goes to Holly." The fundraiser has now surpassed $100,000 in donations. "We have now officially raised $100,000 for Holly in just one night. This is one of the most successful GiveSendGo campaigns in history," Johnson posted earlier. Ramaswamy had earlier condemned the attack and criticised the absence of police and emergency services. Earlier, in a post on X, he wrote, "It's unconscionable that there were no police present in that area of Cincinnati on a Friday night, or even an ambulance to take her to the hospital. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search Ads Get Info Undo Hard-working Americans shouldn't have to worry for their safety when they have a good time in our cities.' He added that Holly, a single working mother, told him no public official aside from one detective had contacted her. "Leftists like to lecture about 'systemic injustice' while thugs turn our cities into war zones. I'm done with their excuses," Ramaswamy said. If elected in the coming year, Ramaswamy declared, "We're going to set an example for what that looks like in Ohio." The viral video of the incident shows a man being chased into the street, shoved to the ground, and beaten by a crowd. One individual body-slams him while others kick and stomp him. As the man tries to get up, a woman, later identified as Holly, rushes to help, only to be punched twice in the face. She collapses to the pavement, hitting her head and bleeding from the mouth as the crowd continues to cheer. The clip has sparked outrage and renewed calls for better safety and policing in urban areas.
