NEW DELHI: Among the engagements of
PM Narendra Modi
at the G7 Summit in Canada, one stood out - an informal meeting with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni.
The bonhomie was visible between the two leaders as they greeted each other with a warm handshake before a short conversation.
In a video, Meloni can be heard complimenting Modi, saying "you're the best" and "I am trying to be as you".
Later on X, Meloni said, "Italy and India are linked by a great friendship". To this Modi replied, "Fully agree with you, PM Meloni. India's friendship with Italy will continue to get stronger, greatly benefiting our people."
The leaders' rapport have drawn public attention, including at CO in Dubai in 2023, during which Meloni posted a selfie with Modi and captioned it "Good friends at CO". Clips of the camaraderie between the two at global events, including at G20 summits, have made waves on social media.
