K-P celebrates Independence Day
Throughout the provincial capital, government and private institutions marked the occasion with a series of special events. Flag-hoisting ceremonies were held at the Peshawar High Court, University of Peshawar, Civil Secretariat, and several other government offices. Non-governmental organizations also joined the celebrations, arranging rallies and patriotic programs that infused the city with festive energy.
The streets and public places were awash with national colors. Children dressed in green-and-white outfits, many fashioned from the Pakistani flag, added a lively charm to the day. BRT stations, public offices, and private buildings were adorned with flags and bunting, giving Peshawar a vibrant look reminiscent of Eid festivities. Police were deployed at key points to maintain security throughout the celebrations.
A dignified flag-hoisting ceremony at Governor House Peshawar was attended by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, US Consul General Shante Moore, Iranian Consul General Ali Banafshekhah, and Afghan Consul General Hafiz Mohibullah.
The event began with the national anthem, followed by a guard of honour from the police. Special prayers were offered for Pakistan's progress before the governor, accompanied by the diplomats, cut a ceremonial cake. Governor Kundi extended heartfelt greetings to the nation and expressed gratitude to the foreign envoys for their participation and goodwill messages.
In Dera Ismail Khan, a solemn yet spirited Independence Day ceremony was held at the Police Lines, with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur as chief guest. A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a guard of honour to the sound of patriotic tunes from the police band. The chief minister hoisted the national flag, cut a celebratory cake, and planted a sapling to mark the occasion.
The ceremony drew senior officials including Commissioner Zafarul Islam, RPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Nasir Khan, DPO Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada, representatives of government departments, community leaders, and media personnel.
Addressing the gathering, CM Gandapur congratulated the nation, noting that this year's Independence Day coincided with what he termed a "national victory" in which the armed forces and people together "humbled India's arrogance." He paid tribute to martyrs and veterans from the creation of Pakistan to the present, stressing that freedom is earned through sacrifice.

Independence Day celebrations and Chehlum processions: 9,500 policemen deployed across capital: IGP
ISLAMABAD: Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Thursday said that a total of 9,500 police personnel have been deployed across the federal capital to ensure security during Independence Day celebrations and Chehlum processions. Speaking to reporters at the central Imambargah in Sector G-6, the IGP said a comprehensive security plan has been put in place for the Chehlum procession, based on insights and experiences from the past five years. He said that 5,000 officers and personnel have been specifically assigned to safeguard the procession. 'All divisional Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), and female officers are actively on duty,' the IGP stated. Sniper commandos have been deployed on rooftops along the procession route, and a strict ban has been imposed on the use of private drones in the area. He further said that special units from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), police, and Rangers are positioned at the front and rear of the procession. To ensure rapid response to any untoward incident, 16 Quick Response Force (QRF) teams from the Rangers, 29 QRF teams from the CTD, and 16 elite police vehicles have been stationed strategically. He said that a comprehensive digital surveillance system with modern cameras is active throughout the city. The Safe City project and mobile control rooms are fully operational and playing an effective role, he said. Highlighting additional security measures for August 14, he said more than 9,500 personnel have been deployed across the capital to maintain law and order during Independence Day events. He also informed that police have carried out multiple search operations throughout Islamabad and completed seven rounds of sweeping along the Chehlum procession route. To facilitate public movement, the number of entry points to the procession has been increased. LAHORE: President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Atif Ikram Sheikh, emphasized the critical need for renewed focus on economic stability during Pakistan's 78th Independence Day celebrations. Speaking at a ceremony organized by the FPCCI in Lahore on Thursday, Sheikh declared that true freedom is achievable only through national prosperity. A large number of members of the business community were also present at the occasion. Special prayers were offered for the security, progress and prosperity of Pakistan, while the atmosphere echoed with chants of 'Pakistan Zindabad' and 'Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad'. NESPAK also celebrated the 78th Independence Day by arranging a simple but impressive ceremony at NESPAK House, Lahore here on August 14, 2025. The ceremony was started with recitation from the Holy Quran and prayers were made for the national unity and progress of the country. On this occasion, Zargham Eshaq Khan, Managing Director NESPAK, hoisted the national flag amid Independence Day drill performed by NESPAK security guards and national anthem was played. Speaking on the occasion, MD NESPAK expressed one's love for the country and its importance. In the end, MD NESPAK cut a cake along with senior officials to mark the celebration.
