Outlander's Sam Heughan joins Glasgow pilates class as he gears up for London Marathon

Daily Record23-04-2025

It's no secret that Sam Heughan is a fitness fanatic, and ahead of running the London marathon this weekend, the Outlander star took part in a Glasgow pilates class. The Jamie Fraser actor headed along to the pilates studio in Park Circus to stretch out ahead of his 42km run this weekend through the streets of London.
Sharing Sam in action, Lyle Pilates Instagram page - based in the west end of the city - penned: "Getting marathon ready again with @samheughan …number 6! To everyone counting down the days till London masssssive luck to you all and enjoy the day! Lonneke xx."
Pilates is said to be good for runners as a strong core, good alignment and a good breathing technique will all help support the body and even helps prevent injury,
Lynne Robinson, founder of Body Control Pilates, previously told the Record: "In terms of runners, sometimes a slight imbalance in the body will go on to create problems because it's such a repetitive movement you're doing. Even a small adjustment in your posture or in your core stability can make a huge impact."
Over the weekend, Sam explained to his followers that he was 'carbing up' at Tom Kitchin 's restaurant in Leith.
Sharing a selfie of himself with a birthday cake, he penned: "Early Birthday Scran from the best of Scotland! Thank you @tom_kitchin and whole crew for the incredible experience! Michelin starred carb-loading for @londonmarathon."
Tom commented on Sam's post, writing: "Happy birthday bro - smashing 45! Best of luck at the marathon!"
Sam has been visiting The Kitchin in Leith for many years and even filmed an episode of Men in Kilts there with his Outlander co-star Graham McTavish.
The pair were photographed with top chef and owner Tom. The celebrity chef shared the moment on social media with the trio appearing to be having a lively discussion as they tucked into Scottish cuisine.
This isn't the first time the star has run a marathon as he ran the Edinburgh marathon back in 2018.
Sam completed the course in aid of Cahonas Scotland and he crossed the finishing line after three hours and 12 minutes, beating his personal best by one minute.
After completing the race, he posted on Instagram: "@edinburghmarathonfestival 3.12 beat my PB by 1min!!
"Thank you everyone for the support and delighted to help @CahonasScotland. Now can I lay down?"
The 45th London Marathon takes place this Sunday, with this year's event hoping to break the world record for the most participants in a marathon, with more than 56,000 runners expected to compete.
That record was originally held by the 55,646 finishers at last year's New York Marathon, but this month's Paris Marathon recorded 56,950 participants.
The streets of London will be packed with runners who are taking on the challenge in a bid to raise money for causes close to their hearts, and taking on the 26.2 mile course, which passes through some of London's most famous sights.

Sam Thompson's 'bravado' in first meeting with Louis Tomlinson at Soccer Aid

Sam Thompson and Louis Tomlinson have finally come face-to-face after the One Direction singer started dating the Made in Chelsea star's ex-girlfriend Zara McDermott. Last year I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! winner Sam, 32, split from his long-time girlfriend Zara, who rose to fame appearing on Love Island. The couple had been together for five years, however three months later Zara, 28, was spotted on a date in Suffolk with Louis, 33. At the time a source said Sam was 'hurting' and was struggling after seeing his ex 'move on so quickly'. Not long after the new romance was confirmed, it was revealed that the men were set to meet on live TV after both signing up for the Soccer Aid for Unicef match in June, where they will both be playing on the England team. Now, with the match just a few days away, the pair have taken to the pitch for training at Old Trafford in Manchester, with photographers capturing them together. During the session, Sam and Louis were seen doing their best to avoid eye contact when meeting. Throughout training, they were seen having a kick with their fellow teammates, who include Tom Grennan, Bear Grylls, Paddy McGuinness, Wayne Rooney and Jill Scott. One photo saw them pose for a team photo, with Louis standing directly behind Sam, while another showed Sam standing close by Louis as they trained. Weighing in on their interaction, body language expert Judi James said Sam looked like he was trying to convey a sense of 'bravado'. 'Both Sam's 'red carpet' pose and Louis's arrival for the game suggest the kind of overkill, stretched smiles that hint at a huge desire to act as though nothing has happened despite this being their first meet-up since Sam split with Zara who then moved on with Louis,' she told Metro. 'Sam's smile in particular looks like a gesture of bravado as his chest is also puffed in a look of pride and resilience. There are no moments here where the two men performed an act of acknowledgment, greeting each other or even shaking hands or hugging to signal there are no hard feelings.' She went on: 'When you try to ignore a glaring situation like this it often adds to the drama, but the suggestion is that neither of these celebrity 'nice guys' wanted to upstage a very worthwhile charity event. While Sam resorted to playful showboating Louis appeared more low-key and introvert, watching Sam at times but with the two men otherwise avoiding eye contact.' Since being spotted together in March, Louis and Zara have taken romantic trips away together to Los Angeles and Costa Rica. Meanwhile Sam has now moved on himself too, and is dating another Love Island star – Samie Eilishi, 25. However last month his best mate and podcast host Pete Wicks poked fun at Sam, addressing his 'rivalry' with Louis. 'How do you feel about the lineup? Do you think you have a strong team? Any kind of people in there that you're looking forward to playing with?' he asked. Laughing but avoiding to be drawn, Sam listed other stars he was looking forward to playing with. More Trending 'Make sure you get him on side though,' Pete said about boxer Tyson Fury. 'Because you may need him in your corner. In case you fall out with anyone – not that you will – but just in case there's any rivalries or anything. 'You know you have to train together and it's a lot and you know when you're kind of in close quarters with someone like that, all sorts get brought up.' Despite the potentially awkward run-in, a source previously said that Sam had 'no hard feelings' towards Louis. The Soccer Aid for Unicef match airs Sunday 15 June on ITV1. Got a story? ‘I won Race Across The World but was secretly struggling'

On Wednesday night, Caroline and Tom Bridge watched the Race Across The World final with 60 friends in a booked-out pub, but they were keeping a secret. Since they returned from their travels after traveling 14,000 kilometers from the Great Wall of China to the most southern point of India, the mother and son duo have been sitting on £20,000, unable to tell anyone they know that against the odds, they triumphed over four other teams to be crowned the fifth Race Across The World champions. 'It's such a relief,' Caroline tells Metro. 'You just can't lie through your body language and for the last two weeks people have constantly been asking if we've won and I've just had to change the subject [and] turn away.' Tom says: 'My go-to line became 'only time will tell' but then people would just stare at you. They ask you the question to see if your face will move or not – people are awful.' Their 60-strong party was among the millions who watched Caroline and Tom sign the coveted check-in book before their rivals in one of the most nail-biting finishes possible. They reached the final checkpoint just 19 minutes ahead of sisters Elizabeth and Letitia, and 45 minutes ahead of third place Finn and Sioned. Brothers Brian and Melvyn came fourth and were impressively hot on their competitors' heels, catching up 15 hours – but it wasn't quite enough. Watching the final back, Caroline and Tom insist they deserved it. 'Not at the expense of the others,' says Caroline, even if she admits 'we got lucky'. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Tom says: 'It was just nice watching it back and you can see us slowly gaining confidence and understanding of how to travel without a phone and navigate. Opening that book and winning was the cherry on top.' The £20,000 cherry on top, to be precise. Caroline and Tom still haven't received a penny of their prize fund, and even with months to make plans they still don't know how they're going to spend the money. Caroline is being sensible. 'I'll put it in a premium bond until I know.' Tom is cautious too. 'I don't want to be silly and waste it but I do want to go travelling for another year. I don't want to come up with loads of plans though and then have no money left.' Regardless, the race has opened Tom's eyes to a potentially lucrative new venture, teaming up with a friend he made on his travels. During their time in India, Caroline and Tom stayed with Mr Chhotaram and his family who made rugs and had a go at making one of their own. 'Mum bought the rug and got it imported and I fell in love with it,' says Tom. 'I had a couple of people who saw it and said, 'Wow, this is brilliant. Where can I get one?' So I asked Mr Chhotaram, 'Can we come up with a deal where I can import rugs from you and sell them back in the UK on your behalf? That's the plan so far, we've imported 10, we've got a pop-up shop coming and launching a website. Every rug they sell the money goes back to the community.' Caroline is also entering a new chapter inspired by the race. After giving up her career to raise her family, Caroline went into the contest wanting to prove to herself that she could be more than 'just a housewife'. After a rocky start to Race Across the World finishing the first leg in last place, once they left China and landed in Nepal, Caroline and Tom both turned a corner but she was transformed after having her confidence shattered by a series of events. 'We'd just downsized [the] house, which I really struggled[with]. I didn't have a horse anymore and we had our dog put down. Tom was becoming more independent and I thought, 'I don't know what life is going to offer me now.' Luckily, Race Across The World came at the right time,' she says. After spending time with the generosity of the Indian people, their openness inspired her to take back control. 'When I came back, I got my horse back again and I started competing. I have a much more positive attitude now. I still spend a lot of time outside with my animals but I'm not as frightened of being lonely.' More Trending Naturally, after discovering they're not just suited to travelling, they're quite talented at it, and they've found their sense of adventure with varying degrees of ambition. Tom is joining Fin on a one-day trip to Ireland. 'We want to get the ferry there, have a pint of Guinness and then get the ferry back again that night.' Thankfully, there is a bigger plan too. 'We're going to Kazakhstan together,' grins Caroline. 'We're not going to do any research, just [fly] by the seat of our pants and just be impulsive, speak to locals and find out what's good to do.'
