Outlander's Sam Heughan joins Glasgow pilates class as he gears up for London Marathon

Daily Record23-04-2025

It's no secret that Sam Heughan is a fitness fanatic, and ahead of running the London marathon this weekend, the Outlander star took part in a Glasgow pilates class. The Jamie Fraser actor headed along to the pilates studio in Park Circus to stretch out ahead of his 42km run this weekend through the streets of London.
Sharing Sam in action, Lyle Pilates Instagram page - based in the west end of the city - penned: "Getting marathon ready again with @samheughan …number 6! To everyone counting down the days till London masssssive luck to you all and enjoy the day! Lonneke xx."
Pilates is said to be good for runners as a strong core, good alignment and a good breathing technique will all help support the body and even helps prevent injury,
Lynne Robinson, founder of Body Control Pilates, previously told the Record: "In terms of runners, sometimes a slight imbalance in the body will go on to create problems because it's such a repetitive movement you're doing. Even a small adjustment in your posture or in your core stability can make a huge impact."
Over the weekend, Sam explained to his followers that he was 'carbing up' at Tom Kitchin 's restaurant in Leith.
Sharing a selfie of himself with a birthday cake, he penned: "Early Birthday Scran from the best of Scotland! Thank you @tom_kitchin and whole crew for the incredible experience! Michelin starred carb-loading for @londonmarathon."
Tom commented on Sam's post, writing: "Happy birthday bro - smashing 45! Best of luck at the marathon!"
Sam has been visiting The Kitchin in Leith for many years and even filmed an episode of Men in Kilts there with his Outlander co-star Graham McTavish.
The pair were photographed with top chef and owner Tom. The celebrity chef shared the moment on social media with the trio appearing to be having a lively discussion as they tucked into Scottish cuisine.
This isn't the first time the star has run a marathon as he ran the Edinburgh marathon back in 2018.
Sam completed the course in aid of Cahonas Scotland and he crossed the finishing line after three hours and 12 minutes, beating his personal best by one minute.
After completing the race, he posted on Instagram: "@edinburghmarathonfestival 3.12 beat my PB by 1min!!
"Thank you everyone for the support and delighted to help @CahonasScotland. Now can I lay down?"
The 45th London Marathon takes place this Sunday, with this year's event hoping to break the world record for the most participants in a marathon, with more than 56,000 runners expected to compete.
That record was originally held by the 55,646 finishers at last year's New York Marathon, but this month's Paris Marathon recorded 56,950 participants.
The streets of London will be packed with runners who are taking on the challenge in a bid to raise money for causes close to their hearts, and taking on the 26.2 mile course, which passes through some of London's most famous sights.

'Famous landmarks' 'This new series, which will see Tom take on a solo presenting role, combines history and culture as he explores famous landmarks and delves into the stories behind these attractions. 'Filming has already begun and fans can expect to tune in later this year.' Tom first rose to fame as a contestant on ITV singing contest The Voice before finding a home on the E4 dating show. Rob and Rylan's Grand Tour took home won the Entertainment award at the Baftas last month, after fighting off competition from the likes of Stacey Solomon's Sort Your Life Out and the BBC's Race Across The World. Tamzin Outhwaite makes major romance vow as she spills on toyboy split

Actress Tamzin Outhwaite has issued an update on her love life and the major change she is making going forward following her split from ex boyfriend Tom Child last summer Tamzin Outhwaite has made a life-changing vow following the split from her boyfriend Tom Child after six years together. The actress, 54, met Tom, 33, at a yoga class in 2017 and their love blossomed away from their mats. However, things were not meant to be between the pair as they went their separate ways last summer. Tamzin has been open about her struggle with love, having previously been married to actor Tom Ellis, 46. ‌ They split in 2014 amid cheating allegations while Tom was filming Once Upon A Time with actress Emile De Ravin. After six years in a relationship with someone two decades younger than her, Tamzin has revealed she is now ready to be on her own. ‌ Tamzin and Tom parted ways amicably and have remained one of each others best friends. Yet, after their split Tamzin has decided to make a huge change going forward in her love life with a very strict rule. She told Hello Magazine: "He's still one of my best friends, and I adore him. But I had to say: ''I don't want to share a bed. I'm in a phase where I need to be on my own'." Last year, Tamzin opened up to the Mirror about her newfound single status. 'I'm happy single,' she told us. 'There's a lot on! Life is really busy, throwing a relationship into that is a whole other thing. "Freedom fills up my cup, freedom to do as you please is a lovely thing. That makes me happy.' Tamzin, who took part in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special last year, said she is on a quest to challenge herself, build on things that make her happy and 'fill up my own cup' ‌ 'I'm just trying to stay open, get out of my comfort zone and do different things to help me grow,' she added. 'I'm on a bit of a mission at the moment. I want to do more things that give you fear because even going through the fear is important. That's where your growth happens as a person.' Tamzin's change in pace began after the menopause hit while she was trying to juggle her busy life as an actress, a mum-of-two, and a doting daughter to her elderly father who lives 'at the end of the garden'. She decided to throw herself into wellness, learning breathwork, stepping up her yoga practice and building a sauna in her spare room. Tamzin said: 'Taking stock, taking a breath and retreating is something I've been learning to do so I can fill up my own cup then come back into my life and do everything that I do, which is keeping up a career, keeping up home, keeping up everything to do with my children and my dad, who lives with me at the end of the garden. "It's making sure everyone is OK. I'm not a saint but juggling all the plates and a career on top of that can be quite stifling.'

Sam Thompson reveals Soccer Aid appearance is hanging by a thread – and horrifying after-effects of 260 mile bike ride

SAM Thompson has revealed his Soccer Aid appearance is hanging in the balance as he continues to recover from his gruelling charity run. The I'm A Celeb king, 34, raised more than £1.5m for Unicef by running and biking 260 miles from Stamford Bridge, Chelsea, to Old Trafford, Manchester, where the game will be played at the weekend. 4 Sam Thompson's body is in bits after he ran and biked 260 miles Credit: Splash 4 He's in good spirits even though he might not be able to play at the weekend Credit: Instagram Sam carried the matchday ball in a backpack for the duration of the journey and was joined by famous pals at various points as they tried to motivate him through the pain barrier. Speaking on Hits Radio today, Sam revealed his battered body is still suffering. He said: "I am so tired but elated. I'm so glad we got it done... "Never again [am I getting on a bike] I think I'm prone to saddle issues! After day one I still to this point can't feel bits of my privates. I'm being deadly serious! "The bike is a wild thing, Tracey who was with me going up these hills when we were skirting round the edge of Wales, that was mad and you're just going so slowly and you feel like your bike is going to topple over! I did think to myself this is the first time I've ridden a bike in so long..." Detailing how adapting for one leg issue has aggravated others, Sam continued: "Because I was running in a different way my shin was really inflamed so I couldn't even run on my tiptoes so I was running side to side. "I describe it as plugging holes, so like the calf tears so that's one hole you've got to plug so then I run on my tiptoes with my leg straight. "OK well that then messes up my ankle ligaments because everything is running through your ankle; then your ankle ligament explodes so then you can't do that... you're trying to play chess against yourself, whilst trying not to panic because I can't move my leg and it's still pretty bad." Though it's up in the air if he'll be fit in time to step onto the pitch at the weekend, Sam is still going to be a presence at training sessions in the build up under the care of Gary the physio. He said: "I'm just going to go lie on his bed every single day and get a rub down...!" Sam Thompson breaks down in tears as he's comforted by sister Louise and family after completing 260-mile endurance challenge on This Morning Sam cuddled his sister Louise after finishing the challenge but his girlfriend Samie Elishi wasn't in attendance. He also received a phone call from Orlando Bloom in the This Morning studio who congratulated him on the superhuman effort. Chris Hughes, Ryan Libbey and Josh Patterson were all on hand at various points of the challenge to offer support. This Sunday's game will see huge celebs battle it out in an England XI v World XI.
