Outlander's Sam Heughan joins Glasgow pilates class as he gears up for London Marathon

Daily Record23-04-2025
It's no secret that Sam Heughan is a fitness fanatic, and ahead of running the London marathon this weekend, the Outlander star took part in a Glasgow pilates class. The Jamie Fraser actor headed along to the pilates studio in Park Circus to stretch out ahead of his 42km run this weekend through the streets of London.
Sharing Sam in action, Lyle Pilates Instagram page - based in the west end of the city - penned: "Getting marathon ready again with @samheughan …number 6! To everyone counting down the days till London masssssive luck to you all and enjoy the day! Lonneke xx."
Pilates is said to be good for runners as a strong core, good alignment and a good breathing technique will all help support the body and even helps prevent injury,
Lynne Robinson, founder of Body Control Pilates, previously told the Record: "In terms of runners, sometimes a slight imbalance in the body will go on to create problems because it's such a repetitive movement you're doing. Even a small adjustment in your posture or in your core stability can make a huge impact."
Over the weekend, Sam explained to his followers that he was 'carbing up' at Tom Kitchin 's restaurant in Leith.
Sharing a selfie of himself with a birthday cake, he penned: "Early Birthday Scran from the best of Scotland! Thank you @tom_kitchin and whole crew for the incredible experience! Michelin starred carb-loading for @londonmarathon."
Tom commented on Sam's post, writing: "Happy birthday bro - smashing 45! Best of luck at the marathon!"
Sam has been visiting The Kitchin in Leith for many years and even filmed an episode of Men in Kilts there with his Outlander co-star Graham McTavish.
The pair were photographed with top chef and owner Tom. The celebrity chef shared the moment on social media with the trio appearing to be having a lively discussion as they tucked into Scottish cuisine.
This isn't the first time the star has run a marathon as he ran the Edinburgh marathon back in 2018.
Sam completed the course in aid of Cahonas Scotland and he crossed the finishing line after three hours and 12 minutes, beating his personal best by one minute.
After completing the race, he posted on Instagram: "@edinburghmarathonfestival 3.12 beat my PB by 1min!!
"Thank you everyone for the support and delighted to help @CahonasScotland. Now can I lay down?"
The 45th London Marathon takes place this Sunday, with this year's event hoping to break the world record for the most participants in a marathon, with more than 56,000 runners expected to compete.
That record was originally held by the 55,646 finishers at last year's New York Marathon, but this month's Paris Marathon recorded 56,950 participants.
The streets of London will be packed with runners who are taking on the challenge in a bid to raise money for causes close to their hearts, and taking on the 26.2 mile course, which passes through some of London's most famous sights.

Merchant sets sail for Gordon success at rain-soaked Goodwood

An impressive winner in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, William Haggas' improving son of Teofilo was sent off the 6-5 favourite to enhance his growing reputation with a Group Three success. With the threat of lightning meaning a flag start it was Gary and Josh Moore's Too Soon who led them along, with the Highclere Thoroughbreds-owned market leader among those held up at the rear of the field along with Aidan O'Brien's Galveston and Andrew Balding's recent Sandown winner Windlord. Merchant wins the HKJC World Pool Gordon Stakes 💯@TomMarquand | @WilliamHaggas — ITV Racing (@itvracing) July 31, 2025 With the runners edging over to the stands side with the two-furlong pole approaching, it appeared as though James Owen's Wimbledon Hawkeye would take some reeling in, but Merchant's jockey Tom Marquand had a brave ally when he needed him, with the colt bridging the deficit to register a nose verdict in the nick of time. Whether it proves to be at home or abroad, exciting options now await for Merchant, who was bred by Jim Bolger. Doncaster or Paris appears to be the discussion to be had regarding the autumn. Haggas said: 'Tom said he didn't enjoy the ground, but he kept going and that's what I like about him the most. 'His temperament is brilliant, he doesn't give a monkey's about anything. That is one of his great attributes for the future. 'They all had to cope with the conditions, it was going to be messy whatever happened with the flag start. He's only won a nose and James' horse ran a fabulous race. 'He really dug in well, he's a very good horse. Desert Hero won this race and then ran in the St Leger and I don't think he was ever quite the same afterwards. 'I'm worried about stretching this horse out to a mile and six too soon, I think he is really a horse for next year, too. We think he's very good. 'However, if he didn't like the ground there then he may not like the ground in France in autumn. I'm not saying the Arc is definitely not going to happen, but it's not definitely not going to happen either.' Highclere's Harry Herbert added: 'I'm not sure we'll go for the Leger, the plan – so long as he comes out of this race fine – is to go to York (Great Voltigeur Stakes) 'We'll see how that goes, if York went well and we had good ground at York we'd see what this horse can do on perfect ground. 'Tom said he was spinning his wheels the whole way, it's extraordinary that he's won. If he happened to go through York OK then the trainer has talked more about the Arc, which is quite bold. 'He's worried about going a mile and six as a three-year-old, he sees him as having a very big future. He's a master with this type of horse.'

Spider-Man team arrives in UK city to film 'after being forced to change location'

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released next year and filming, featuring the likes of Zendaya, will reportedly be underway in Glasgow from tomorrow The upcoming Spider-Man sequel is reportedly set to begin filming in the UK later this week. The likes of Tom Holland and co-star Zendaya expected to be on location for the production, which has seen a city transformed into another. ‌ Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is a sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), is due to be released on July 31 next year. It will mark the fourth solo film starring Tom, 29, as Peter Parker, who goes by the titular superhero name. ‌ It was previously announced that Glasgow would be used as a location for the film. It's now been reported that filming will begin in the city, which will appear as New York, later this week. The news comes amid the Devil Wears Prada sequel having begun filming in the actual New York City. ‌ READ MORE: Harry Potter films ranked from best to worst including 'greatest masterpiece' Photos of Glasgow show the city having been transformed into New York City for the production. It includes flags, roadworks and street signs having been introduced, as well as international vehicles being spotted in the area too. The Sun reports that it was originally due to be filmed in Liverpool. It however claims that it was later decided to relocate the production after the Liverpool FC victory parade crash in May that left more than 100 people injured. ‌ A source told the outlet that production has "started," adding: "It's really exciting for film fans living in Glasgow as they will see their city in the next movie." They said that it's "uncanny" how much the city now looks like the Big Apple. The source went on to say: "Originally the plan was to film a lot of it in Liverpool but after the crash, they changed the plans." They added: "There were discussions about whether it was appropriate to stage big stunts, including car chases and explosions, in light of the awful incident." According to the Herald, filming on Spider-Man: Brand New Day is due to begin in the city tomorrow. It reports that a number of roads in Glasgow are due to be closed off to accommodate the production between August 1 and 16. ‌ Tom previously confirmed that Glasgow would be used for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He also shared her excitement over getting to film on location again, after having worked exclusively on soundstages for the last Spider-Man film. In an interview for news outlet Flip Your Wig, shared on Instagram earlier this month, Tom said: "We were really restricted with what we could do in the last movie because of COVID." He said that the "entire" film had been shot on stages. He said: "Now, we're really gonna lean into that old school filmmaking and shoot in real locations - which is why we're starting in Glasgow. We're gonna use the streets of Glasgow for this massive set piece that we're putting together." Tom is set to lead the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day alongside his fiancée Zendaya, who plays Michelle Jones-Watson, known as MJ, in the franchise. Jacob Batalon is also expected to reprise his role as Ned Leeds in the film.

Zawe Ashton received 'toxic texts' from family after Tom Hiddleston wedding rumours

Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton have been engaged for three years now, but there's said to have been confusion over their relationship status after he was referred to as her husband Zawe Ashton has now confirmed whether she has quietly married fellow actor Tom Hiddleston. The Marvels star gave an insight into their relationship following speculation that the couple had tied the knot after getting engaged in 2022. ‌ It was announced in Vogue last month that Zawe, 41, and Tom, 44, are expecting their second child together, with the Loki star called her "husband" by the outlet. The couple, who have been romantically linked since 2019, however hadn't previously revealed that they had got married. ‌ She has now opened up about the situation and spoken about the impact of Tom being described as her spouse It comes after radio host Gemma Atkinson opened up about why she hasn't married her partner Gorka Márquez. ‌ Zawe, whose acting credits include Fresh Meat and the Handmaid's Tale, spoke to Miquita Oliver, 41, about her relationship on the Miss Me? podcast. The actor appears as a guest on the latest episode, which has been released this week. Speaking about her relationship with Tom, Zawe said: "We've been engaged for a long time." She continued by sharing on the podcast: "There are ... I think there have been publications that have named us husband and wife already." ‌ She went on to recall that having prompted questions from loved ones, teasing that they had been disappointed to have not been invited to the supposed wedding. Zawe however confirmed that she hasn't eloped with Tom. Zawe said: "Those text messages were very ... there's some toxic paragraphs that were thrown my way! Like 'uh, okay, no invite? Whatever.' It's like, no, no, no. It didn't happen. We didn't do it in secret. We haven't eloped." ‌ She continued by telling podcast host Miquita that the couple refer to each other as "husband and wife". Zawe suggested that, amid expecting their a second child together, those titles felt better suited to them than alternatives. Zawe said on the podcast: "It's just a semantics thing. We call each other husband and wife. I think at some point you're like 'girlfriend, boyfriend' ... with a kid and another one on the way? Does that feel right?" Miquita said that it's "nice" but teased that the couple "might have to actually have a wedding soon". Zawe responded: "Yeah, but it's also p***ing off people who are actually married. So like, you realise that's just like ... not real, yet." ‌ Zawe added that herself and Tom have "thought about" getting married in "different ways". She later said: "The spiritual bond and the anchoring for what it does for you as a couple and as a family, I think, is really appealing to both of us." Miss Me? is available on BBC Sounds and other podcast platforms.
