You know the Best of Ekurhuleni Readers' Choice awards. Maybe you've won. You definitely want to!
And if you've just been pipped at the post, or you've just opened and need to remind our readers about you, here's your chance.
This year, as we celebrate our 10th Best of Ekurhuleni, we've made a change.
We're inviting all businesses in the area to add your names during our new nomination period.
And once your name is on the nomination list, you're guaranteed to be on the drop-down list for voting when we open that to our readers.
And readers … if you know of a new business, or have an absolute fave, you're welcome to add them to the nomination list too … that way you know they'll be on the drop down list come voting time.
If you're new in town, a little background.
You'll certainly have seen the certificates hanging proudly in stores around the city. It's one of SA's most popular (dare we say the most popular), and long-lasting, awards, all about giving credit to the people, businesses and companies (that's you!) who make Ekurhuleni such vibrant, dynamic, energetic place to live.
After the successful Best of competition which launched in 1996 in Joburg northern suburbs, we brought it to Ekurhuleni and is as popular now as we were back then. Hell. More so. Those Best of Ekurhuleni certificates … they're highly coveted.
So if you want to win and display one in your store, make sure you pop onto the nomination site, open from June 24 to July 8. Nominate yourself, and a few of your local business neighbours in their particular categories. They'll appreciate it.
Once all nominations are in, we'll open the ballot for voting … as before, readers will vote for the places they feel are the best to visit and shop and give them a well-deserved pat on the back.
So let's get this Best of ball rolling … pop over to bestofsouthafrica.co.za/ekurhuleni/ between June 24 and July 8, or scan the below QR code, nominate and be in the running.
And watch this space … soon after the nominations phase, we'll open the voting, with some seriously desirable prizes up for grabs … you'll want to tell your customers to vote, vote, vote!

GGT2030 Team JHB cleans up Main Street ahead of G20 Summit

As the City of Johannesburg prepares to welcome global leaders for the G20 Summit in November, the GGT2030 Team JHB has taken a proactive step by launching a clean-up and community safety initiative along Main Street in Rosettenville. Director Chris Litau said that recognising the importance of presenting a cleaner, safer Johannesburg to the world, and especially to its residents, the team joined forces with Pikitup, the City of Johannesburg municipality, local businesses and dedicated community members to restore pride and safety to this vibrant neighbourhood. 'In addition to cleaning the streets, we have committed to supporting community security efforts to help curb crime in the area. Our goal is not only to beautify the streets but to contribute meaningfully to a safer and more dignified environment for all. 'This initiative is more than a once-off event. We see it as a long-term project that can create real impact by offering employment opportunities to unemployed community members. While we face challenges, particularly in securing financial support to sustain and grow the project, we remain hopeful and determined. 'We call on stakeholders, private donors and civic-minded individuals to support us in building a cleaner, safer Johannesburg. Together, we can turn this vision into a lasting reality,' noted Litau.
