Five Gators projected to go in 2025 NFL draft by CBS Sports
The 2025 NFL draft begins in less than two weeks, and a handful of Gators expect to hear their name called over the three-day event.
CBS Sports analyst Chris Trapasso released a full seven-round mock draft on Wednesday and has five Gators going on Day 3 of the draft. While five draftees would exceed last year's total of one — Ricky Pearsall at No. 31 in the first round — it would mark the first time Florida didn't produce a Day 1 or 2 pick since 2012, when Jaye Howard went in the fourth and Chris Rainey followed in the fifth.
Trapasso sees receiver Elijhah Badger coming off the board first for the Gators in the fourth round to the Carolina Panthers. Defensive tackle Cam Jackson is a projected fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers, joining Ricky Pearsall, and Trapasso sees the Tampa Bay Buccaneers trading up to get linebacker Shemar James in the sixth.
James had eligibility left but opted to enter the draft instead of returning for his senior year. Florida's linebacker room is a bit crowded with young talent, but James would still have been the leader of that position room and received plenty of playing time.
Rounding out the draft projections are offensive tackle Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson and cornerback Jason Marshall Jr., both going in the seventh and final round. Marshall played like a potential Day 2 guy for most of the season, but a season-ending injury killed his draft stock.
The two surprising omissions out of Florida not on Trapasso's list are receiver Chimere Dike and running back Montrell Johnson Jr. Dike was a draft combine darling that wowed scouts and drew rave reviews, while Johnson has been a reliable back for four seasons under Billy Napier. Similar to Marshall, Johnson dealt with some injuries as a senior, but he's still a reliable back who flashed better speed at the combine than many expected. It wouldn't be surprising to see both sneak into the later rounds, despite Trapasso's projections.
Gators draft projections from CBS Sports
Round 4, Pick 114 (Carolina via Chicago): WR Elijhah Badger
Round 5, Pick 147 (San Francisco via New Orleans): DT Cam Jackson
Round 6, Pick 185 (Tampa Bay vis mock trade with Pittsburgh): LB Shemar James
Round 7, Pick 218 (Atlanta via Cleveland): OT Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Round 7, Pick 225 (Arizona via NYJ): CB Jason Marshall

Maurice's message to Nosek after game-deciding penalty in Florida's Game 1 Cup Final loss
All Tomas Nosek could do is watch from the penalty box as the Florida Panthers' hopes to win Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final slipped away. He was an observer for the casualty he committed, flipping a puck over the boards with just less than two minutes left in overtime to give the Edmonton Oilers a power play. Edmonton struck on that chance, with Leon Draisaitl beating Sergei Bobrovsky to seal the Oilers' 4-3 come-from-behind victory on Wednesday to open the best-of-7 series. It's a tough moment to take for Nosek, Florida's fourth-line center whose play typically slips under the radar. But the Panthers are doing what they can to make sure Nosek doesn't hang his head too much. 'That stuff happens in the game of hockey,' veteran forward Brad Marchand said. 'You know, it's a bad break. He's been a great player for us all year, all playoffs. So, yeah, we have his back on that one.' While the blunder is the moment fresh in fans' minds, a reminder of what Nosek has done for the Panthers this postseason. He was a healthy scratch through the first seven games of the playoffs — all five games in the first round against the Tampa Bay Lightning and the first two of the second round against the Toronto Maple Leafs. After Florida dropped the first two games to Toronto, Maurice made a wholesale change to his fourth line, dropping Mackie Samoskevich, Nico Sturm and Jesper Boqvist and inserting Nosek, A.J. Greer and Jonah Gadjovich in their place. The trio was integral in the Panthers winning Game 3 against the Maple Leafs and turning the tide of that series, which Florida ultimately won in seven games. Nosek has been in the lineup every game since, is integral on the penalty kill and on multiple occasions has had to move up in the lineup midgame to fill in for injured teammates. Through 11 playoff games, the Panthers have not allowed a goal at 5-on-5 in the 98:12 Nosek has been on the ice despite opponents having an expected goals for mark of 4.73. 'We're not here without Tomas Nosek,' Maurice said. 'It's a tough break. We make sure he doesn't eat alone tonight, he has lots of people sitting at his table reminding him of how good he has been for us. It's going to be tough. He's going to eat that one for a day. But from his penalty kill to that line changing the flow of that Toronto series, we'll remind him of that a whole bunch of times.''

Florida football a candidate for first College Football Playoff berth in 2025
Florida football a candidate for first College Football Playoff berth in 2025 Florida football is earning national attention as one of the top programs poised to make their first College Football Playoff appearance in 2025, according to CBS Sports' Carter Bahns. Following the CFP's expansion to a 12-team format in 2024, the door has opened wider than ever for rising programs to break through. The Gators' late-season surge–powered by DJ Lagway's rapid development, a veteran offensive line and improved defense–helped shift the narrative surrounding Billy Napier's tenure as Florida's skipper. Entering his fourth season with the Orange and Blue, Napier now leads one of the SEC's most intriguing rosters heading into the fall. With the CFP now allowing multiple teams from power conferences like the SEC, Florida doesn't need to win the league to earn a postseason spot. Instead, a top-three finish in the conference could be enough to secure a long-awaited playoff berth. Here is everything Bahns wrote about the Florida Gators and why they could have a real shot at the playoffs next season. Everything CBS Sports said about the Gators "Florida sure looked like it turned a corner last November. Consecutive wins over ranked opponents, a four-game winning streak to close the year and a freshman-year breakout from DJ Lagway could not have come at a more opportune time for Billy Napier," Bahns notes. "If the last month of 2024 was a harbinger of success to come, the Gators coach could go from the hot seat to the playoff in just over a calendar year. It does not take much imagination to envision a breakthrough season, especially since Lagway has a talented receiving corps and one of college football's strongest offensive lines at his side." Urban Meyer unable to properly count Georgia's number of home games
Urban Meyer unable to properly count Georgia's number of home games Former Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer discussed the Georgia Bulldogs' prospects for the 2025 college football season on "The Triple Option" podcast. The podcast features Meyer, former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Mark Ingram and fellow FOX college football analyst Rob Stone. Meyer emphasized the importance of scheduling and how it impacts a team's success. "I am sitting here looking at Georgia's schedule. They are playing nine, this is an SEC schedule man, nine games at home," said Meyer. There's no doubt that Georgia scheduled a soft nonconference schedule in 2025. "Marshall, Austin Peay and Charlotte and they've got nine. Count them. Nine home games," added Meyer. "Come on Kirby (Smart) what in the world was that." Meyer fails to mention that Georgia plays Georgia Tech, as usual, in nonconference play. Well, we counted. We have a copy of Georgia's schedule and can clearly see that the Bulldogs play seven home games, which is very common in this era of college. Georgia does play a pair of neutral site games against Florida and Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs only have three true road games, so that's what Meyer is trying to get at. It is a little embarrassing that Meyer, who obviously coached at Florida, did not realize that the Georgia-Florida game is played a neutral site on UGA's schedule. We also can see Ohio State's schedule from their 2024 national championship season, where the Buckeyes did actually play nine home games (includes one home game in the College Football Playoff). The Buckeyes played a three-game regular season nonconference slate of Akron, Western Kentucky and Marshall and had eight regular season games at home, which is a lot. As for Florida, the Gators had a challenging 2024 schedule that still featured seven home games. The Gators have six home games in 2025 while Ohio State had seven home games in 2025, which is the same amount as Georgia. Despite a weak nonconference schedule, Georgia's schedule is by no means easy. The Bulldogs play Alabama, Texas and Ole Miss at home and have road games against Auburn and Tennessee. Neutral site contests against Florida and Georgia Tech present significant challenges as well. Georgia football's 2025 schedule Follow UGAWire on Instagram!
