Alec Pierce, Ja'Marr Chase only WRs to accomplish this feat
Indianapolis Colts' wide receiver Alec Pierce is in impressive company now three years into his NFL career.
According to ESPN's Stephen Holder, Pierce has seven receptions of 40-plus yards since 2022. The only receiver who has more of those types of receptions during that span is Cincinnati's Ja'Marr Chase, who has eight.
In four seasons, Chase has made four Pro Bowls and is a one-time All-Pro, along with winning the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2021.
Holder also notes that one out of every 10 receptions by Pierce has gone for a touchdown, and since 2022, he leads the league in air yards per target at 16.0.
As these numbers indicate, Pierce has been a big play threat since he entered the NFL, but the 204 season was a breakout year for him. Pierce would record a career-high 824 receiving yards, seven touchdowns, and he led the NFL in yards per catch among eligible receivers with 22.3.
Beyond the big play presence that Pierce provides this Colts' offense with, having that element available forces defenses to spread out as they protect against explosive plays, and that can then open up opportunities underneath and over the middle for other pass catchers.
Pierce is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and he will continue to be a vertical presence in this offense. But the next step for him and what he's working towards is expanding his route tree so he can impact other levels of the field more regularly.
"This time, especially right now and into training camp, you try different things with him," Shane Steichen said during OTAs. "Obviously, things he wants to get better and improve at, certain routes to keep getting better at and keep working those things so he can improve in that and we can add that to his game as well."

Ben Johnson pleased with "big-time throws" from Caleb Williams
Bears head coach Ben Johnson was happy with his quarterback after Sunday night's preseason game against the Bills. Williams completed 6 of 10 passes for 107 yards with a touchdown, no turnovers and no sacks,, and Johnson said after the game that Williams looked the way the Bears wanted him to look in live game action. "Caleb made a couple big-time throws, in my opinion, to keep that drive going, and some explosive plays there, so it was good — it was good to see," Johnson said. Johnson said Williams has had some bad days in training camp but that last week's practices and Sunday night's game were as good as he's been. "I thought the three days of practice we had this week and this game were the most he's stacked up good days in a row," Johnson said. "The challenge is going to be to keep pushing in that direction." The Bears beat the Bills 38-0 and Johnson said that was all about the players' execution. "It really had nothing to do with scheme. It was all about our guys and how they wanted to play the game," Johnson said. Now Johnson will hope that promising performance can carry over to the regular season.

Aaron Rodgers turned down more money from Steelers, per report
A new report has shed light on some never-before-heard details regarding Aaron Rodgers' contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers — and if true, could potentially sway some of his critics. The Rodgers-to-Pittsburgh signing dominated NFL headlines, but there's more to discuss months later thanks to insider information from former Steelers cornerback turned CBS Sports analyst Bryant McFadden — specifically how Rodgers turned down additional money on his contract. 'It wasn't about money because [the Steelers] are giving him around $13 million or something like that,' McFadden said via 93.7 The Fan. 'And I got word that he actually could have gotten more, but that's what he wanted… They were willing to offer more. It would have been a situation where they were willing to pay him more than what he's actually receiving, but Aaron was like, 'No, man, this is what I would take and I just wanna play ball.' That tells me this is a guy that's all in. I love that. That's what our team was about when I was there.' The days of putting the team first, above contract amounts, are long gone — which has become even more evident in the Steelers' ongoing contract dilemma with veteran DT Cameron Heyward, who's looking for another payday just one year removed from signing an extension. Steelers host 4 free agent workouts following LS Christian Kuntz injury
The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to bolster the long snapper position, hosting four free agents for workouts following Christian Kuntz' chest injury during Saturday's preseason matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On Sunday, it was reported that the Steelers brought in four long snappers for workouts: Rick Lovato, Jake McQuaide, Taybor Pepper, and Patrick Scales. Lovato, a 10-year veteran, spent the last nine seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he won two Super Bowls and was named to the 2019 Pro Bowl. McQuaide, who's been playing in the NFL for the past 14 years, is a two-time Pro Bowler and recently played for the Miami Dolphins. While both Pepper and Scales lack the Pro Bowl accolades of the previous two long snappers, they each offer over 100 games of NFL experience. Following Saturday's preseason loss, Steelers HC Mike Tomlin provided some vague optimism regarding Kuntz's availability — claiming there might have been "good news" on his chest injury. We at Steelers Wire will keep you updated on the situation as more information becomes available, as Pittsburgh gears up to take on the Carolina Panthers in their third 2025 preseason matchup on Thursday, August 21.
