Glasgow venues rank in top 10 most popular independent gig spots in the UK
Glasgow has been named the UK's leading city for independent music outside London, with three of its beloved venues earning spots in a new ranking of the most popular indie music spaces across the country.
Compiled by Betway, the list analysed Instagram and TikTok hashtag volumes, Google review scores, and annual search volumes to determine the nation's favourite independent music venues.
While London venues dominate in numbers, Glasgow stood out as the only other city with multiple entries, highlighting its rich musical heritage and thriving grassroots scene.
Topping the Scottish entries and coming in second overall is SWG3, a former industrial complex transformed into a dynamic creative hub.
With nearly 40,000 Instagram mentions and a 4.5-star average rating on Google, the venue has become a magnet for music lovers and cultural events.
It is the highest-ranking indie venue not in London and has built a reputation for supporting both international acts and homegrown talent.
Joining SWG3 in the top ten is the legendary King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, ranked sixth nationally and fourth among venues outside London.
Known for its intimate setting and rich musical history, King Tut's has been a key launchpad for Scottish artists including Biffy Clyro and Snow Patrol.
The venue enjoys over 118,000 annual Google searches and boasts a strong 4.7-star rating. With 27,300 Instagram hashtags, the venue remains a firm favourite among fans and musicians alike.
The city's third entry is the iconic Barrowland Ballroom, which secured sixth place in spots outside London and eighth in the overall ranking. Long recognised for its electric atmosphere and memorable gigs, the Barrowlands has been a cornerstone of Glasgow's live music scene for decades.
With its iconic sprung dance floor and distinctive neon signage, the venue received 11,600 Instagram hashtags, 450 TikTok hashtags, and an impressive 4.7-star Google rating.
The UK's most popular venue overall is Ronnie Scott's in London, which pulled in 1.6 million Google searches annually and garnered 47,500 Instagram tags.

The renowned Soho jazz club is widely considered a bucket-list venue for fans and musicians alike. While its TikTok footprint is smaller, its 4.7-star rating reflects its enduring cultural appeal.
Just behind SWG3 in third place overall is The Cavern Club in Liverpool, the famed birthplace of The Beatles. With 45,000 Instagram mentions and close to a million searches a year, the club continues to hold a special place in British music history.
Leeds' Brudenell Social Club rounds out the top five, with a 4.8-star rating and 325,200 searches annually. Known for its intimate gigs and impromptu performances by major artists, it continues to enjoy a devoted following.
While London accounts for four of the top ten venues, Glasgow is the only other city with more than one entry.

Sue Radford stops daughter Katie from visiting home with young son as she admits 'struggles'
Sue Radford was seen giving her daughter Katie some "tough love" in the latest episode of 22 Kids and Counting Sue Radford prevented her daughter Katie from popping round to their family home with her little lad in the latest instalment of their reality programme as part of her "tough love" approach. The Radford family first found fame when they appeared in their own Channel 5 show 22 Kids & Counting where they document the life of their large and ever-growing family. During the most recent episode, viewers saw new mum Katie struggle with motherhood as she relocated from an 11-bedroom family mansion where she resided alongside her numerous brothers and sisters, to a cramped flat. She gave birth to her first baby Ronnie with her partner of six years Connor Carter last October, though things haven't been entirely plain sailing for the 22-year-old. During the programme, she revealed her battles with night-time feeding sessions every two hours alongside feeling "isolated" and regretting her decision to move out, reports the Mirror. Shortly after welcoming her son Ronnie Hudson Carter into the world, the pair relocated to a compact flat situated just two hours away from the family residence. Katie has been struggling particularly since her partner Connor returned to his job. Discussing the circumstances, she explained: "A baby takes up a lot of room, there just wouldn't have been room in my mum and dad's house for us all. "Last night, he woke up every two hours... I don't think anything prepares you for having your own, I didn't expect this to be me. Connor went back to work today and it is harder, you've got to do everything yourself. "It is a lot harder living on your own. At home you've got your parents and your siblings to help, whereas when you're at your own place you've got to do it on your own. I wasn't prepared for any of that - the loneliness." Katie revealed she particularly yearns for her mum and dad and confessed it feels as though she's completely alone. Later in the programme, Katie admits she longs for the hectic atmosphere of living at home surrounded by her numerous brothers and sisters. The mum-of-one had been popping back to the family house almost daily, but mum Sue felt compelled to dish out some "tough love". She explained: "She was coming round every single day, 8:30am and then not going back until 6pm - I think she was missing everybody." She continued: "Katie coming round to the house every day is not really gonna help her settle into being in the flat on her own. Trying to help her, there's got to be a bit of tough love there." One scene captures Katie strolling with Ronnie as she remarks: "My mum's text - said I can't come round very strange." She reveals: "Memories like Ronnie's first smile or his first giggle, I'd like to share the moments with all my family, they're missing out on that. Some days I do regret moving from home." Fuming airplane passenger reveals the ‘selfish' flying trend she had to put up with as traveller ‘sits in her lap'
A WOMAN has been left furious after an airplane passenger reclined her seat. Simone, from the UK, took to social media to share her experience and it caused controversy online. 2 2 The young woman seemed to be making her way back from a holiday when the event took place. She filmed part of the altercation which took place on the flight. In the clip, she was sat down with her table having some of the in-flight meals and a drink. But she claims she was rudely interrupted by the passenger in front who decided to recline their chair. Simone told the other flyer: "This is an airplane. Please let me know where you recline on the airplane." "What part of this seat can you recline on?" she asked again. Like with most economy tickets, there was little leg room for anyone and Simone was not happy with the woman reclining into her already cramped space. In the comments, Simone claimed the passenger was also 'pushing hard and further into my leg.' "She basically wants to sit in my lap," she captioned the post. The video posted to her TikTok account @ msimonexo went viral with over 285k views and 4,900 likes. The deeply selfish holiday trend sweeping Europe's beaches this summer – and it's WORSE than sunbed hogging Plenty of people were quick to weigh in on the situation. Many branded the reclining passenger as 'selfish' while others said Simone should upgrade her ticket if she wants extra space. One person wrote: "I thought everyone knows that you shouldn't recline when people have their trays down." "Buy extra legroom next time," penned a third. Plane etiquette IF you're planning on going away any time soon, you'll need to pay attention to the following unwritten plane etiquette rules... RECLINING SEAT: Podcast host and etiquette expert Nick Leighton explained that you shouldn't recline your seat if the passenger behind you is working on their laptop. He said: "Nobody likes their laptop snapped in half." Before you recline your seat, it's best to check to see what the passenger behind you is doing. If they are on a laptop, ask before you move your seat back. FEET: A flight attendant told The Sun: "Your boarding card tells you a number and a letter, this will be the reserved seat that you have paid for. "Your feet, which are attached to your body, should do their best to reside within this space and stay far away from anyone else. "If you do insist on stretching out, please make sure your feet are covered up." CHAT: TV travel expert Samantha Brown explained that conversations from strangers aren't welcome, suggesting that others shouldn't expect a chat. She added: "I'm not a talker. Plane time is me time." Meanwhile a fourth said: "Anyone that reclines is selfish."
