Tejasvi Surya flags metro fare hike in Lok Sabha, demands Yellow Line be made operational soon
Speaking during Zero Hour, Mr. Surya said: 'About four months ago, BMRCL hiked metro fares by nearly 130%. Public transport must be affordable for the common man. This hike has significantly reduced ridership.'
He demanded that BMRCL make the FFC report public, stressing that transparency is essential in a democracy. 'Despite several requests, the report remains unpublished. I urge the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to direct BMRCL to release it immediately,' he said.
Mr. Surya also called for the early operationalisation of the long-delayed Yellow Line, stating that it is key to addressing Bengaluru's traffic woes. 'The city's infrastructure deficit is growing. Metro expansion is the only sustainable solution,' he added.
The 19-km Yellow Line connects R.V. Road to Bommasandra, spanning 16 stations and linking major residential and industrial zones, including Electronics City. Initially set for completion in 2021, the project has been delayed by over four years owing to the lack of metro rolling stock.

For the third week in a row, the Parliament has faced adjournments related to the SIR of electoral rolls in Bihar. However, last week both Houses engaged in a two-day discussion on Operation Sindoor with active participation from both the Treasury and Opposition benches. Once again, tribals to protest Par-Tapi-Narmada river-linking project
Surat: Reviving protests against Par-Tapi-Narmada river-linking project in South Gujarat after a gap of three years, a rally has been announced in the Dharampur area of Valsad on Aug 14. Over 5,000 people of tribal communities from affected regions are expected to take part in the demonstration. Members of the tribal committee, overseeing the protest, met in Nadagdhari village near Dharampur and worked out a strategy to restart the protest. The protest was revived after a detailed project report (DPR) was presented in Parliament. "Ahead of the 2022 assembly election, chief minister Bhupendra Patel declared the project scrapped during his visit to Surat in May. However, now a DPR has been presented in the Lok Sabha and thousands of tribals have been forced to restart the protest for survival," said Anant Patel, Congress MLA from Vansda.
