Bryce Young is done being quiet.
The typically easy-going quarterback surprised teammates and coaches during the first day of Carolina Panthers' mandatory minicamp Tuesday, when he confronted Pro Bowl cornerback Jaycee Horn.

In a fired-up exchange, Young showed a shift in attitude and maybe in the Panthers' culture.
Horn had overheard Young call a play in the huddle and tipped off the defense, down to the routes the receivers were running. Young didn't let it slide.
'Y'all should believe in yourselves,' Young shouted at Horn. The moment lasted more than 10 seconds, according to ESPN's David Newton. It also revealed a side of Young not often seen publicly in his first two NFL seasons.
'He's talking way more this year,' Horn said after practic. 'He's talking trash every day.'
The current set of Panthers are far from being a contender on paper, but after seven straight losing seasons, the players believe Young being vocal is a sign of change.

'Guys are finally sick of being the same old Carolina Panthers," Adam Thielen said. 'We want to get back to what they did here in the past.'
Second-year head coach Dave Canales praised the intensity of his team, especially from Young. 'He just has a defiance to him,' Canales said. 'That's just kind of his way of competing.'
Young earned back the starting job after being benched early last season, finishing the year with a five-touchdown performance in a 44–38 win at Atlanta. The Panthers followed that by selecting Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Another weapon to give Young more confidence entering his third season.

Still, Canales said Young isn't coasting. 'Even when I took him out, he stayed in the center of it,' Canales said. 'He continued to lead.'
Now, Young enters the 2025 season with a stronger voice and a team ready to follow him.

Dodgers regain NL West lead from Padres as Snell shuts down his former team in 6-0 win

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Blake Snell limited his former team to five hits in six innings, and the Los Angeles Dodgers regained the NL West lead with a 6-0 victory over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night. The Dodgers drew six walks over the first two innings against Padres right-hander Dylan Cease, when they scored five runs on just one hit. Teoscar Hernandez hit his 20th homer of the season in the fifth inning. Michael Conforto had a two-run single in the first inning for Los Angeles (70-53), which pulled even with San Diego (69-54) by winning the opener Friday. The Padres had taken sole possession of first place in the division Wednesday. Snell (3-1) was making his first start against the Padres after leaving the club following the 2023 season, when he won the NL Cy Young Award. He walked two and struck out three. Cease (5-11) gave up two hits but walked six in 3 1/3 innings. He allowed five runs — three earned. The first three Dodgers batters of the game – Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Will Smith – all walked and scored in the first inning. Ohtani and Smith also walked in the second and scored when Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill dropped Freddie Freeman's flyball at the warning track in right-center field. Key moment Cease was one out away from escaping his first-inning mess with just one run allowed until Conforto grounded a single into right field for a 3-0 Dodgers lead. Key stat San Diego made three of its first four outs of the game on stolen-base attempts, as Smith threw out Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts at second base in the first two innings. Up next Padres RHP Yu Darvish (2-3, 5.61 ERA) and Dodgers RHP Tyler Glasnow (1-1, 3.08) will face off Sunday afternoon in the finale of the three-game series. ___ AP MLB:

Brian Gutiérrez scores in 87th, Fire beat St. Louis 3-2, extend unbeaten streak to 5 games

CHICAGO (AP) — Brian Gutiérrez scored in the 87th minute Saturday night, Hugo Cuypers and Philip Zinckernagel also scored goals, and the Chicago Fire beat St. Louis City 3-2 to extend its unbeaten streak to five games. Gutiérrez rolled a shot from well outside the area inside the right post to cap the scoring. Chris Brady had two saves for Chicago (11-9-6). Andrew Gutman, on the counter-attack, ran onto a long ball played ahead by Gutiérrez and bent a low cross from the left side to Cuypers for a first-touch finish from near the penalty spot to open the scoring in the 18th minute. Cuypers has 15 goals this season and became the fourth player in club history to accomplish the feat and the first since Nemanja Nikolić in 2018. Tomas Ostrak scored his first goal of the season to make it 1-1 in the 47th minute. After a failed clearance attempt, Ostrak flicked a left-footer from the center of the area inside the left post. Marcel Hartel gave St. Louis (5-15-6) a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute when he stopped a cross played from the right side of the area by Ostrak and blasted a shot into the top-net from near the left corner of the 6-yard box. Zinckernagel, on the counter-attack, outraced a defender to the edge of the penalty area, cutback to evade another defender and then rolled in a shot to make it 2-2 in the 67th. The opening kickoff, which had originally been set for 7:30 p.m. local time, was delayed about 90 minutes due to inclement weather in the area. ___ AP soccer:
