Time of India6 days ago
Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, hit the screens today (August 14) much to the delight of fans. The action drama has become the talk of the town as it marks Superstar's first collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj, the brain behind blockbusters like Kaithi and Vikram. The intense trailer too has worked in its favour. Amid this, a trade analyst has revealed that it needs to gross a mammoth amount worldwide to emerge as a commercial success.
Coolie breakeven target revealed
Rajinikanth is in the limelight because of his latest film Coolie, one of the biggest releases of the year. According to Ramesh Bala, a trade analyst, it needs to gross Rs 600 crore worldwide to become a hit. He added that Coolie can achieve this feat as the content is 'mass appealing and it enjoys an extended weekend because of Independence Day.
'The target is Rs 600 crore at the very least. It caters to the masses and has enough in it for them, despite not being a perfect film. It is a star vehicle for sure. Then, there is a an extended weekend and no competition (in Tamil) in the foreseeable future. So, it may be able to pull it off he told Indiatimes.
2.0 (2018) had earned Rs 800 crore in its full run and emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil movie of all time, a record it still holds. Even Jailer (2023) earned around Rs 600 crore and proved to be a hit. Given this, Coolie has the potential to become a profitable venture for all concerned.
Coolie box office prediction day 1
Coolie is set to open to a terrific response globally. According to trade sources, it may earn Rs 150 crore+ globally on day 1. If this holds, the gangster drama will outperform Leo (Rs 148 crore) to record the best opening for a Tamil film. Coolie is a gangster drama directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
It focuses on a retired kingpin who tries to teach some old foes a lesson for messing with him. The film also explores the shady world of gold smuggling. The cast is headlined by Rajinikanth, Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, 'Real Star' Upendra, and Shoubin Shahir. Aamir Khan has a cameo in Coolie. Anirudh Ravichander is the music director.
