Auburn nearly sets conference record with 6 All-SEC selections
Six Auburn Tigers were tabbed as All-SEC performers after a historic baseball season on the Plains in 2025. Outfielder Ike Irish (First Team All-SEC), pitcher Samuel Dutton and second basemen Chris Rembert (Second Team All-SEC), freshman Chase Fralick and Bub Terrell (SEC All-Freshman Team), and third basemen Eric Guevara earned (SEC All-Defensive Team) helped make history for the Tigers, as the six representatives from Auburn were the second most ever in conference history.
The unquestioned offensive heartbeat of the Tigers, junior outfielder Ike Irish accumulated one of the best seasons in Auburn history from the plate. After missing some time in the beginning of the campaign, including the opening series of conference play, the Hudsonville, Michigan native raked his way to a .398 averaged, .480 on-base percentage, and .852 slugging percentage, to go along with 13 home runs and 92 total bases in SEC play. Each statistic ranked second in the conference.
On the mound, Auburn's lone pitching representive on the All-SEC team was senior Samuel Dutton. After spending his first three college seasons as an LSU Tiger, Dutton sparkled in his lone year as a member of Auburn, becoming the first Tiger starter to earn a spot on the All-SEC team since Casey Mize in 2018. After throwing just 87 2/3 innings through his first three seasons at LSU, the senior eclipsed the 75 innings mark this season, finishing with a dazzling 3.58 earned run average and a team-high 6 victories and 89 strikeouts.
Infielder Chris Rembert became the first Auburn's true freshman to earn All-SEC first or second team honors since Hunter Morris in 2008. A starter for the majority of the season, Rembert finished his inaugural collegiate campaign with a team-high .355 average and .485 on-base percentage. Both marks ranked the highest among freshman in the conference.
Fellow first-year contributors Chase Fralick and Bub Terrell joined Rembert as All-SEC athletes. The catcher and outfielder tied for second on the team in doubled (14) while Fralick provided key defense behind the plate all season long. Fralick ranked third among all Tigers in averaged (.344) and finished fifth with 39 RBI. Terrell was almost equally impressive on the offensive side, as he slugged his way to a .287 average and 33 RBI.
The lone Tiger on the All-SEC Defensive Team, third basemen Eric Guevara was fantastic on the hot corner all year long. The Panama native committed just 2 errors across 29 games this season, and saw his bat heat up towards the end of the campaign, as he earned SEC Player of the Week honors in the beginning of May.

Pete Alonso hits 252nd home run to match Darryl Strawberry for Mets record
MILWAUKEE — Pete Alonso hit his 252nd career home run Saturday night, tying the New York Mets record held by Darryl Strawberry for 37 years. Alonso connected against Milwaukee Brewers starter Tobias Myers leading off the second inning for his 26th homer this season, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. The 413-foot shot to left-center came on a 1-2 fastball at the top of the strike zone. It was Alonso's fourth homer in eight games, since he went deep Aug. 1 against San Francisco to end an 0-for-19 slump. 'It means a lot. A mark that's not easy to get,' Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said following his team's 7-4 loss. 'How many great players have put on this uniform? For Pete to be able to tie it, it's something special for him and for all of us. We're proud of him.' Alonso was not available to speak with reporters after the game because of a personal situation, a Mets spokesman said. The record-tying drive came in the same ballpark where Alonso launched the biggest home run of his career last October — although that one didn't count toward his regular-season total. The slugger's go-ahead, three-run shot in the ninth inning off All-Star closer Devin Williams saved New York's season and rallied the Mets to a 4-2 victory over the Brewers in the decisive Game 3 of their NL Wild Card Series. A homegrown star drafted by the Mets in 2016, Alonso broke into the big leagues with a bang in 2019, hitting 53 home runs to set a major league rookie record and establish a franchise high for a single season. The five-time All-Star, nicknamed The Polar Bear, has reached 40 two other times and been one of the most consistent sluggers in baseball since his arrival. After a protracted negotiation, he returned to the Mets as a free agent in February on a $54 million, two-year contract that includes a $24 million player option for 2026, which Alonso will likely decline. The only other active players who lead their current franchise in home runs are Manny Machado (Padres) and Mike Trout (Angels). Giancarlo Stanton, now with the New York Yankees, holds the Miami mark with 267 for the Marlins. Strawberry broke the previous Mets record with his 155th home run on May 3, 1988, passing Dave Kingman. The sweet-swinging outfielder hit 252 in 1,109 games for New York during his first eight major league seasons from 1983-90. He later played for the Dodgers, Giants and Yankees, finishing his 17-year career with 335 homers. The 30-year-old Alonso played his 963rd game Saturday night. The durable first baseman has appeared in 370 straight, a team record. The Diamondbacks and Padres are the lone major league clubs that haven't had a player hit more than 252 homers for them. Luis Gonzalez holds the Arizona record with 224, and Machado entered Saturday with 187 for San Diego.

Baylor loses RB Dawson Pendergrass to injury ahead of season opener vs. Auburn
The Baylor Bears suffered a major injury blow before their season opener against the Auburn Tigers later this month. reports that Baylor running back Dawson Pendergrass has sustained a season-ending foot injury three weeks before the Bears begin the 2025 season against Auburn. Baylor head coach Dave Aranda called the injury a "misfortune" and shared that Pendergrass' injury will require surgery. Pendergrass was projected to be the No. 2 back in Baylor's offense this season, but is considered to be a "1-2 punch" alongside the assumed starter Bryson Washington. The duo combined to rush for 1,699 yards last season with 18 touchdowns. Individually, Pendergrass added 671 yards and six scores to the total. According to Pro Football Focus data, Pendergrass gained 399 yards after contact last season while boosting 14 carries of over 10 yards, and 33 touches resulting in first downs. Washington will remain the Bears' projected starting running back. Still, it is assumed that freshman Caden Knighten and redshirt freshman Joseph Dodds will pick up the production that Pendergrass was expected to carry this season. Knighten was the No. 30 running back of the 2025 recruiting cycle, and Dodds redshirted last season after suffering an injury of his own. Baylor lost a pair of running backs, Dominic Richardson and Richard Reese, to the transfer portal last offseason, the duo each produced over 1,000 yards during their time in Waco. Aranda and the Bears will have just under three weeks to adjust their offensive game plan before taking the field for the first time in 2025. See where ESPN ranked LSU football in latest SEC power rankings
LSU landed in the top five for ESPN's preseason SEC power rankings ahead of the 2025 college football season. The Tigers checked in at No. 4 on the list. Texas, Georgia, and Alabama take up the top three spots, respectively, while Texas A&M rounds out the top five. "The Tigers are probably going to score a lot of points, and if Brian Kelly can figure out how to turn around his defense, they might be a legitimate SEC title and CFP contender. LSU has dropped five straight season openers, three under Kelly, and it plays at Clemson on Aug. 30." Behind second-year starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, LSU's offense looks primed for another high-octane year under head coach Brian Kelly. His staff brought in multiple receivers with SEC experience as part of the nation's top transfer portal class in 2025. Following a second full offseason with defensive coordinator Blake Baker, the defense filled critical needs in the secondary and at edge rusher to put together a unit with loads of potential. The question will be whether it can contain some of the nation's most potent offenses. The Tigers will be tested immediately in a week one contest at Clemson. They'll need to contain professional-level talent at wide receiver as well as quarterback Cade Klubnik.
