Baylor loses RB Dawson Pendergrass to injury ahead of season opener vs. Auburn
SicEm365.com reports that Baylor running back Dawson Pendergrass has sustained a season-ending foot injury three weeks before the Bears begin the 2025 season against Auburn. Baylor head coach Dave Aranda called the injury a "misfortune" and shared that Pendergrass' injury will require surgery.
Pendergrass was projected to be the No. 2 back in Baylor's offense this season, but is considered to be a "1-2 punch" alongside the assumed starter Bryson Washington. The duo combined to rush for 1,699 yards last season with 18 touchdowns. Individually, Pendergrass added 671 yards and six scores to the total. According to Pro Football Focus data, Pendergrass gained 399 yards after contact last season while boosting 14 carries of over 10 yards, and 33 touches resulting in first downs.
Washington will remain the Bears' projected starting running back. Still, it is assumed that freshman Caden Knighten and redshirt freshman Joseph Dodds will pick up the production that Pendergrass was expected to carry this season. Knighten was the No. 30 running back of the 2025 recruiting cycle, and Dodds redshirted last season after suffering an injury of his own. Baylor lost a pair of running backs, Dominic Richardson and Richard Reese, to the transfer portal last offseason, the duo each produced over 1,000 yards during their time in Waco.
Aranda and the Bears will have just under three weeks to adjust their offensive game plan before taking the field for the first time in 2025. Auburn and Baylor will square off on Friday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. CT.

Report card: Buffalo Bills fall 34-25 in preseason vs. New York Giants
The Buffalo Bills lost their preseason opener, 35-24, against the New York Giants. Between the lines is what really matters in the exhibition season. Players are looking to crack the final roster. Others already likely on it are vying for starting jobs. A report card will help us find out which players ended up standing out and which parts of the roster. Here is Bills Wire's report card following the team's loss to the Giants in Week 1 of the preseason: Passing offense: B The focus for the Bills' passing offense is the battle between Mitchell Trubisky vs. Mike White. Both of their numbers were saved by one big play. In the end, Trubisky was 9-for-13 for 138 yards and a touchdown. White was 8-for-13 with 112 yards and two touchdowns. The wide receiver standing out the most amongst an injured group was Tyrell Shavers. Rushing offense: C There was nothing too special to write about about with Buffalo's rushing attack while the focus was on starter James Cook missing his team's first preseason game. Standing out was a short, quick spell from backup rusher Ty Johnson in the second quarter as he mustered up 26 rushing yards. The Bills' highest-graded offensive linemen via Pro Football Focus marks were David Edwards (73.6) and Ryan Van Demark (64.0). Pass defense: C Not the best grade, but this could be for a variety of options... even though we're not looking to make excuses for the Bills. Safeties Cole Bishop and Taylor Rapp not starting does not help. First-round rookie Maxwell Hairston missing hurts depth as well. On top of that, Buffalo's opponent has multiple players pushing for playing time as the starting quarterback for 2025... and the Giants were going to scheme up a bit of a game plan... while the Bills likely did not defensively. Run defense: B+ The standout area of Buffalo's defense was the defensive front. The Giants got nothing going on the ground as Dante Miller led their ground attack with 22 rushing yards... on 10 carries. But the D-line performed well against the pass, too. From veterans such as Joey Bosa to rookie Deone Walker, throws were being swatted and QBs Coaching: C The most credit head coach Sean McDermott will get is the one he made to not start Josh Allen. No reason to have the QB out there. However, his secondary was picked apart. No reason to think that can't change.

Thunder learn game times for 2025-26 season opener vs. Rockets, Christmas vs. Spurs
After being left out of both days, the Oklahoma City Thunder are at the forefront for two of the biggest days of the regular season. Ahead of the 2025-26 regular season, the league will have the NBA champion on its schedule for Opening Night and Christmas. A couple of days before the NBA released its entire 2025-26 regular season schedule, the tipoff times for both regular-season days were announced on the ABC and NBC morning news segments. The Thunder will host the Houston Rockets for Opening Night on Thursday, Oct. 21. The game will start at 6:30 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock. Like tradition, the NBA champion will celebrate their accomplishment with a banner drop and ring ceremony. Kevin Durant's attendance adds a kick to it for OKC fans. Meanwhile, the Thunder will host the San Antonio Spurs on 2025 Christmas. The game will start at 1:30 p.m. CT on ABC and ESPN. Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama headline the contest with the latest chapter to their ongoing rivalry. In what is otherwise a boring part of the NBA calendar, the regular-season drop gives a desert August an oasis of content. The Thunder will learn their full schedule on Thursday, Aug. 14. They enter next season as a popular pick to repeat as NBA champions.

Auburn receives votes in first AP Poll of season
The Auburn Tigers may enter the 2025 season with higher expectations in-house, but the voters around the country, at least for the time being, don't see Hugh Freeze's squad as a top 25 contender. Auburn was unranked in the first AP Poll of the college football season, marking the fifth straight year the Tigers have failed to crack the top 25. Auburn was listed among the programs that received votes, but their 10 nods were well behind the likes of BYU (156), Utah (144), and opening opponent Baylor (132) in the race to receive a ranking. The Tigers were one of 24 teams to receive at least one vote in the initial poll. Hugh Freeze's team was also one of only two SEC programs (Missouri, 33) to receive votes without earning a spot in the top 25. 10 other programs in the conference were awarded a spot in the top 25, with Texas (1) leading the way in front of Georgia (5), Alabama (8), LSU (9), South Carolina (13), Florida (15), Oklahoma (18), Texas A&M (19), Ole Miss (21), and Tennessee (24). The 10 ranked SEC programs led the way among all conferences, with the BIG 10 (6) coming in a distant second. While Auburn surely is disappointed with their lack of a ranking in either the AP or Coaches Poll, the Tigers could find themselves in the top 25 with an opening night win on the road against Baylor followed by a pair of victories against Ball State and South Alabama at home.
