Walter Nolen injury: Arizona Cardinals rookie DL expected to miss most of training camp
Arizona Cardinals rookie defensive lineman Walter Nolen III, their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft, was officially placed on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list on Wednesday at the start of training camp with a calf injury. He will miss a significant amount of time.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Nolen will miss as much as all of training camp.
He suffered the calf injury while training at the team facility in Tempe.
Per Rapoport, "Nolen's timetable puts him right up against the start of the season, but the bulk of his recovery will be in camp."
That is tough timing because it means he will have almost no full-contact work before the season begins, essentially making it unlikely he sees real playing time for probably the first half of the season.
It is the second consecutive year that a first-round has missed time with a calf injury. Darius Robinson, drafted in the first round in 2024, missed the first 11 games of the season coming back from a calf injury.

Philadelphia Eagles Quietly Add Talent at Overlooked Position
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. You will never hear hours dedicated to extensive detail about the Philadelphia Eagles' longsnappers. Unless Jon Dorenbos enters America's Got Talent again or Rick Lovato's family announces they're expecting a new addition or something, you can forget it. It just isn't an exciting enough topic. Howie Roseman, Philadelphia Eagles Howie Roseman, Philadelphia Eagles Photo by)/(Photo byLong snappers live a life of anonymity. Unless they launch one over the punter's head and it costs the team a game, rarely will you hear the name of the guy serving that duty on your favorite team. There's seemingly no reason to. Don't believe that? Someone may need to verify this, but if memory serves, Pro Football Focus doesn't even talk about it. We can't recall a breakdown of the top long snappers entering an NFL season, and frankly, we wouldn't be upset if PFF never gave this a deeper discussion. More stories: Johnny Manziel Sounds Off on Philadelphia Eagles' Superfan Here's what you can guarantee yourselves. If your favorite team employs a bad one, everyone will know quickly. It is an important duty, so much so that every team keeps one on their roster. Philly has two now. Few mentioned one of the Birds' recent roster announcements because it involved a long snapper, and again. Look at this as a way to make that right as we near the first preseason game. More news: NFL Insider Reveals Truth Behind A.J. Brown's Injury Scare Eagles announce the signing of long snapper Christian Johnstone At the time of this story's release, we are near ten official training camp practices. The first preseason game comes on Thursday. Philly signed Charley Hughlett to a one-year deal on March 14. Recently, he has been listed as 'limited' in practice as he works his way back from a neck issue. The Eagles announced the signing of Christian Johnstone, seemingly as a temporary replacement. Defensive back B.J. Mayes was waived to make room. We've signed LS Christian Johnstone and waived DB BJ Mayes. — Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) August 3, 2025 We're going to assume this won't precipitate a back-and-forth battle between two long snappers, but if it does, we regret to inform you that more time will probably be spent covering Kelee Ringo vs. Adoree Jackson, as that seems to be the more interesting conversation piece. Just in case you're interested, Johnstone spent five NCAA seasons playing for the Appalachian State Mountaineers before going undrafted in 2025. He was invited to Denver Broncos Rookie Minicamp. Things didn't work out, but he gets another chance in Philly, though it seems he is here only as a temporary replacement. For more Philadelphia Eagles and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports

Cornerback Corey Ballentine returns to Packers after getting released by Colts
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Cornerback Corey Ballentine has returned to the Green Bay Packers three days after the Indianapolis Colts released him. The Packers announced Monday they had signed Ballentine, who had played for them from 2022-24. They made room for him by releasing cornerback Gregory Junior. Ballentine played 37 regular-season games and three playoff games for the Packers over the past three seasons. He made seven starts during that stretch. The Colts signed Ballentine in March but released him Friday when they signed cornerback Chris Lammons. Ballentine, 29, played 15 games last season while contributing primarily on special teams. He started six games in 2023 and had 43 tackles and seven passes defensed, both career highs. He also has played for the New York Giants (2019-20), New York Jets (2020) and Detroit Lions (2021). Junior, 26, played with the Jacksonville Jaguars for one game in 2022 and nine in 2023. ___ AP NFL:

Browns K Dustin Hopkins looking to rebound in 2025 season
Browns K Dustin Hopkins looking to rebound in 2025 season originally appeared on The Sporting News During the 2022 (L.A. Chargers) and 2023 (Cleveland Browns) seasons, Dustin Hopkins was nearly perfect with a make percentage over 90%. During the 2023 Browns season, Hopkins made 8 of 10 on kicks over 50 yards and became a lethal weapon. Then during the 2024 offseason, he signed a three-year extension worth $15.9 million, and it all went downhill. Last year, Hopkins only made 66.7% of his kicks, which included only four of eight from 50-plus and three missed extra points. Even though last season there were talks about cutting him, he appears to be getting back to form as he kicked a game-winner in practice on Monday. We don't usually hear a ton on kickers out of camp, but seeing him get confidence early should only help his season get off to a better start than last year. Hopkins will be dealing with a short fuse by fans, and a few costly kicks missed at the beginning of the season could easily cost him his job.
