On March 22, police were called to an apartment building on Wolfe Avenue in the Petawawa after getting reports of a firearm being discharged in the hallway.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
'The investigation later revealed that the residence, which was occupied by a family, was mistakenly targeted,' police said in a news release Saturday.
The shooter reportedly left on foot and has been at large since.
The alleged shooter is believed to be in the Montreal area. Police consider him to be armed and a potential risk to public safety.
OPP did not provide more specifics on the connection between the drug bust and the shooting.
Police continue to search for public assistance in the case to locate the suspect at-large suspect.
The suspect is described as a white male between 30 and 40 years old, approximately 5-foot-10-inches with a thin build
He was last seen wearing a dark-coloured medical mask, dark jacket and dark pants.
Anyone who sees the suspect is asked not to approach and to call 911.
A multi-jurisdiction investigation continues involving Ontario and Quebec police.
