Turkish Capsize Victims Were On Cross-continent Voyage To Turkiye
Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said two men, Ahmed Volkan Ata, the yacht's captain, and crew member, Eser Demirkol, while the third crew member Ates Demiroren was rescued.
'Before the incident, Ahmed Volkan Ata as captain, brought the Daisy from Port Jackson Bay, Sydney, Australia and docked in Kuantan Port, Pahang that served as a meeting point. The other two crew members, from Krabi, Thailand and Singapore, left from Kuantan on their voyage.
'On July 28, at 5 pm, the Daisy started its voyage and was supposed to arrive at its first checkpoint at Pattani Port, Thailand,' he said in a statement, adding that the yacht got caught in a storm in the waters off Pulau Yu here at 2.30 pm Tuesday and was believed to have capsized, with only Ates Demiroren managing to save himself.
'Until now, the rescued victim is reported to be weak and being treated at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital. It is understood that the Marine Department, the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Turkiye Embassy have been informed of this incident for further action.
'All matters involving the Turkish nationals will be borne entirely by the Turkiye Embassy and the rescued victim will be brought home after his condition improves,' he said.
Terengganu MMEA director Capt (M) Hamiludin Che Awang said the search and rescue operation was activated at 3 pm, with a patrol boat mobilised to the location to search for victims.

SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — A man's attempt to snatch a necklace from a local in Setia Alam was thwarted when bystanders caught him yesterday evening. Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident occurred at 7.07pm when the 37-year-old victim was heading to his car. The suspect, riding a motorcycle, tried to pull off the victim's necklace, but the victim fought back quickly. 'The suspect lost control and fell from his motorcycle. Two-year-old boy found dead in sewer after falling through manhole in Sibu
SIBU, Aug 5 — A two-year-old boy was found dead in a sewer after he is believed to have fallen through a manhole at Jalan Pedada here yesterday. A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre spokesperson said the victim, identified as Ehthin Ling, was confirmed dead at the scene by the Ministry of Health's personnel. The JBPM received a distress call at 6.29pm and dispatched a team of 10 firefighters from the Sibu Central Fire and Rescue Station, arriving at the scene four minutes later. 'Upon arrival, the boy's father informed the rescue team that his son had gone missing and was believed to have fallen into the sewer system. A search and rescue operation was immediately launched. 'At 6.55pm, the victim's body was found floating inside the sewer and was retrieved. The body was handed over to the police,' the spokesperson said. — Bernama
