Bugatti Just Made the New Tourbillon Hypercar Even Better
Are you concerned the new Bugatti Tourbillon isn't ridiculous enough? Don't worry, the marque has you covered.
The French automaker has just unveiled the first option package for its third modern-day hypercar. Dubbed the Équipe Pur Sang, the upgrade celebrates the company's racing-rich history and adds several new elements, including six additional exhaust tips.

The Bugatti name may be most closely associated with exclusivity these days, but in its early days, the automaker was a major player on the track. The company was a dominant force in racing between the wars, its cars taking checkered flags at the inaugural Monaco Grand Prix in 1929 and twice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans the next decade. The new option package—the name of which translates, in English, to 'Team Thoroughbred'—is meant to pay tribute to this heritage.
The Tourbillon Équipe Pur Sang may not look radically different from the base hypercar, but eagle-eyed observers will notice a couple of subtle tweaks. These include a new front splitter, upgraded directional wheels, and a deployable rear wing with small endplates to increase downforce and stability. The biggest changes can be found in the rear, where the standard two-pipe exhaust system now features eight tips. This is complemented by a reworked diffuser which helps improve aerodynamic efficiency.
Inside the vehicle, you'll find new embroidered details on the dashboard and headrests. Performance seats designed to offer enhanced lateral support in the corners also come standard.
The Tourbillon's hybrid powertrain remains untouched. It's not hard to see why engineers have chosen to leave well enough alone. The setup, which pairs a naturally aspirated 8.3-liter V-16 with a trio of electric motors, makes a combined 1,800 hp and 1,464 ft lbs of torque. All that power is enough to rocket the car from zero to 60 mph in two seconds flat and to a targeted top speed of 276 mph.
'With the Équipe Pur Sang option, we elevate its appearance towards the track, enabling customers to celebrate the pure racing soul that has defined Bugatti for over a century,' Hendrik Malinowski, the managing director of Bugatti, said in a statement.
Has your interest been piqued? Just be prepared to spend. Bugatti has yet to announce how much the Équipe Pur Sang option package will cost, but expect to add a significant amount to the Tourbillon's $4.1 million starting price.Best of Robb Report

Chinese-owned EV battery maker AESC opens factory in France to supply Renault
AESC Group Ltd., a Japan-based electric vehicle battery maker majority owned by China's Envision Group, launched output at a new factory in France on June 3. With annual production capacity of 10 gigawatt-hours, the factory, located in Douai, France, will first supply batteries to Renault, AESC said. The plant employs 650 people and will expand its workforce to 1,000 after reaching full production capacity, it added. The European Commission on Jan. 31 approved plans for the French government to provide €48 million ($54.7 million) in state aid to support the Douai plant, which will produce lithium ion batteries for EVs. Envision Group, a manufacturer of wind turbines and equipment for energy storage and hydrogen production, in 2019 acquired an 80 percent stake in AESC, then the battery unit of Nissan Motor Co. AESC, headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, operates multiple plants in Japan and China. In Europe, it produces batteries in the U.K., and is constructing a plant in Spain. In the U.S., AESC operates a plant in Tennessee and is building factories in Kentucky and South Carolina, according to information posted on its website. STMicro Will Eliminate 5,000 Jobs in the Next Three Years, Says CEO
CEO Jean-Marc Chery revealed at a BNP Paribas event in Paris that STMicroelectronics N.V. (NYSE:STM) will lose 5,000 workers over the next three years, including 2,800 job layoffs that have already been publicized. A worker assembling the inner circuitry of a semiconductor product. It is anticipated that 2,000 of the total will depart naturally, with voluntary departures making up additional reductions. Chery pointed out that continuing talks with local authorities were the reason for implementation delays, especially in Italy. The French and Italian governments jointly share a 27.5% interest in STMicroelectronics N.V. (NYSE:STM), which employs 50,000 people worldwide. Its cost-cutting initiative, which was started in late 2024, is to reduce the workforce through early retirement and attrition in order to save hundreds of millions by 2027. In April, the business announced that 1,000 of the 2,800 scheduled layoffs would be voluntary in France. According to reports, the Italian government has opposed further cuts and has pushed to limit them to 1,000. Market declines and CEO-targeted insider trading accusations, which the company refutes, are additional factors putting pressure on the business. While we acknowledge the potential of STM as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk. Michelin to use 50% sustainable materials in 2026 WEC and IMSA tyres
Michelin will introduce a new range of slick tyres for the World Endurance Championship and the IMSA SportsCar Championship next year produced from 50% sustainable materials. The French tyre supplier has surpassed its original target to increase the percentage of the renewable and recycled components of the tyres used in Hypercar in WEC and GTP in IMSA from the 40% announced. Advertisement It presents an increase from the 30% of sustainables that make up the current range of tyres introduced at the start of 2023 in the world championship and the North American series in which Michelin is the sole supplier in the top class. Michelin has confirmed the introduction of the new Pilot Sport Endurance range for 2026 ahead of the start of track action for the Le Mans 24 Hours, the centrepiece round of the WEC, with the Test Day this weekend. The new range marks Michelin's first mass-volume tyre produced with such a high level of recycled and renewable materials. A total of 30,000 units will be produced each year, which contrasts with the low volumes in which tyres with similar levels of sustainables have been made for the MotoE World Cup electric motorcycle series and those used on the Mission H24 hydrogen fuel-cell demonstrators. Advertisement The use of new materials and technologies in the WEC tyres is part of Michelin's drive to introduce tyres made from 100% sustainable materials for the road by 2050. Michelin slick tyres made from 50% sustainable materials, WEC Test Paul Ricard Michelin slick tyres made from 50% sustainable materials, WEC Test Paul Ricard Michelin Michelin 'Motorsport, a laboratory for performance and technological development, now also accelerates sustainable technologies,' said Michelin motorsport boss Matthieu Bonardel. 'At a time when our vehicles need durable equipment, racing lets us go faster and further in transferring technology from track to street. 'That is why we have launched a complete overhaul of our endurance range with a clear objective: to incorporate 50% renewable and recycled materials while increasing overall performance.' Advertisement The new range will, like the existing tyres, incorporate three specifications of slick - soft, medium and hard: Michelin brings two to the regular WEC races with all three being available for Le Mans. The aim was to produce tyres that were equal to the existing range in terms of one-lap performance, but with enhanced warm-up following the ban on tyre warmers at the start of 2023 and improved durability. Michelin has raised the prospect of a reduction in the allocation of tyres for each car over the course of a regular WEC event, which currently stands at four and a half sets or 18 tyres for a six-hour race, and higher multiples of stints on four tyres at Le Mans. Philippe Tramond, motorsport technical director at Michelin, suggested that might be possible for 2027 with the necessary rule change. Advertisement 'We have to understand how this new range will perform and then after that the aim is to reduce the number of tyres each car uses over an event,' he explained. Michel tested 11 new materials defined as renewable or recycled during development of its 2026 tyres and has ended up retaining seven. It also tried 14 what it called 'technical bricks' during development and is using five in the new range. Development of the 2026 WEC and IMSA tyres will conclude with a final test at Watkins Glen at the end of this month after which the specifications will be fixed before production begins in September. Advertisement The tyres will be released to the manufacturers and teams in mid-November at the time of the traditional IMSA sanction test. A new Michelin wet-weather tyre is also under development, but a date for its introduction has not be set while stocks of the existing wet are used up. The new slicks incorporate what Michelin is calling a 'micro velvet effect' that looks like a tread pattern. Michelin sportscar operations manager Pierre Alves said that this has been conceived 'to make the invisible visible'. 'There are new things inside these tyres, so what better way to show it than to have something that is visible?' Advertisement Michelin has the supply deal for the WEC's Hypercar class until the conclusion of the 2029 season. That is the current end of the lifecycle of the Le Mans Hypercar and LMDh rulesets, though it is looking increasingly certain they will be extended, with an announcement on the cards for Le Mans week.
