LSU baseball pitcher Anthony Eyanson agrees to deal above slot value with Red Sox
The Red Sox selected Eyanson in the third round with the No. 87 overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. He ranked No. 40 on MLB.com's prospect list following a breakout year with the Tigers.
Scouts were high on Eyanson's breaking pitches during the 2025 season, especially his slider sitting at 82-85 mph and upper-70s curveball.
In his first year of power four baseball, Eyanson earned the Saturday starter role and finished third nationally with 152 strikeouts. He posted a 3.00 ERA through 108 innings and ended his collegiate career. He hurled 6.1 innings with nine strikeouts in the College World Series final against Coastal Carolina.
Eyanson played his first two seasons at UC San Diego before heading to Baton Rouge. He finishes a three-year career with a 3.21 ERA and 271 strikeouts through 219 innings.

A 12-year-old Little Leaguer is 'distraught' at the prospect of missing his team's first state tournament game because he was suspended for flipping his bat after hitting a game-winning home run — a type of celebration Little League Baseball promotes on its social media accounts. Marco Rocco of Haddonfield, New Jersey tossed his bat in the air on July 16 after his sixth-inning, two-run homer in the final of the sectional tournament, his father, Joe Rocco told The Associated Press on Wednesday. At first, he was called out, but on appeal the runs counted, Marco was ejected and suspended for a game over what the family was told were actions deemed 'unsportsmanlike' and 'horseplay.' Now, his family has gone to court to seek an emergency temporary restraining order that will allow him to play in the New Jersey state tournament that starts on Thursday. 'All we're asking for is that the suspension be lifted so he can play in the game,' Joe Rocco said. The sides are scheduled to make their arguments before a judge in Gloucester County Chancery Division on Thursday afternoon, just hours before the game. The winner of the state tournament advances to the regionals, where they have a chance to move on to the Little League World Series. What makes the ejection and suspension so confounding is that Little League Baseball posts videos of bat-flip celebrations on social media that do not result in punishment. In fact, Marco has tossed his bat in celebration in prior tournament games without warnings or punishment, according to the court complaint. Joe Rocco called that hypocritical. 'They promote bat flips. The kids see major leaguers doing it. It's part of the game. He was just emulating what he saw," he said. The incident left his son 'distraught.' 'He was so confused,' the father said. 'He didn't understand what was going on. On the car ride home he was saying 'How can that be against the rules? If I knew I was breaking the rules I never would have done it.'' PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bryce Harper hit the 350th homer of his career and four Phillies teammates also went deep Wednesday night, yet it wasn't enough for Philadelphia to beat the Boston Red Sox. Harper's milestone home run came in the first inning off Boston starter Lucas Giloito. He hit a first pitch fastball into the second deck in right field at Citizens Bank Park. The 439-foot homer run was his longest since a 451-foot blast on Sept. 23, 2023, against the New York Mets. 'It's pretty awesome,' Harper said after the Phillies' 9-8, 11-inning loss to Boston. 'On an individual note, I'm super happy about it. But I always want to win, obviously, and not getting the win was pretty tough.' The homer was the hardest hit ball of the season for Harper, who has begun to look like his former MVP self in recent weeks. In his last 10 games, the 32-year-old slugger has 16 hits, 14 for extra bases, including five home runs. He became the 105th player in MLB history to reach 350 homers in a career and is the eighth active player to accomplish the feat.
