Patna: Several job aspirants, under the banner of the Bihar Students' Union, staged a protest in Patna on Friday demanding the implementation of a domicile policy for all state govt jobs.
The demonstration, led by student activist Dileep Kumar, began with a procession from Patna College and was stopped by police at J P Roundabout near Gandhi Maidan.
Dileep Kumar was briefly detained and police cleared the demonstrators from the road after a minor scuffle. He was released two hours later.
Protesters carried banners with slogans such as "Bihar wants domicile", "Release vacancy for BPSC TRE 4.0 with domicile" and "Bihari vote, outsiders take jobs? No more".
They called for a 100% domicile quota in BPSC TRE and a 90% quota for all other state govt jobs with the remaining 10% open to both in-state and out-of-state candidates. They also demanded the immediate release of the TRE 4.0 vacancies under the proposed policy and urged the completion of the recruitment process before the upcoming elections.
The procession moved through Musallahpur, Bhikhna Pahari and Bakarganj before being halted at J P Roundabout, where police had erected barricades.

Protesters had planned to gherao the CM's residence.
"We demanded a meeting with the CM, but were stopped at J P Roundabout," said Dileep Kumar. "The youth of Bihar have the first right to jobs in the state. I was detained to suppress the demand for domicile, but this protest will not end. If our demands are not met, we will call for a statewide bandh," he added.
The group had held similar protests on June 5 and July 2, during which a delegation met chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena. Protesters warned they would not vote for the govt if the domicile policy is not implemented before the elections.

Kuwait: No more minimum salary requirement for family visit visas, what expats need to know

Visitors to Kuwait can now enter by air, land, or sea using any airline or transport carrier, removing previous restrictions/ Representative image K uwait has officially removed the salary requirement for expatriates applying for family visit visas, in a significant shift aimed at easing entry for extended family members. The move, confirmed by top interior ministry officials, forms part of a wider effort to make Kuwait more accessible to visitors and to strengthen social ties among residents. Just a day earlier, Kuwait had also introduced visa-on-arrival privileges for foreign residents of GCC countries, underscoring the country's broader regional integration goals. TL;DR Kuwait removes minimum salary requirement for family visit visas. Extended family up to fourth degree now eligible for visits. Visa applications processed online in as little as five minutes. Visitors can arrive via any airline or transport mode. Salary barrier removed, all expats can now invite extended family In a major policy overhaul, Kuwait has eliminated the minimum income requirement for expatriates seeking to bring family members on visit visas. Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah authoriz ed the change, which is now officially in effect. Under the updated rules: All expatriates residing legally in Kuwait can apply for family visit visas, regardless of their salary level. The new eligibility extends to relatives up to the fourth degree by blood, and third-degree in-laws by marriage, significantly expanding the previously limited scope which covered only spouses, parents, and children. Colonel Abdulaziz Al Kandari of the General Residency Department's Electronic Services Administration confirmed that the shift aims to support family cohesion and remove bureaucratic hurdles for residents. 'Any legal resident in Kuwait can now apply to host visiting family members, regardless of income,' he said, adding that applications are available through the newly launched Kuwait Visa platform and mobile app, with most complete applications processed in just five minutes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo The family visit visa is valid for one month, with the option to arrive via air, land, or sea, using any carrier. This marks another major update, as visitors are no longer required to travel exclusively with Kuwaiti airlines such as Kuwait Airways or Al-Jazeera Airways. A unified platform offering four visa categories The visa reforms are part of the government's broader plan to modernize and digitize the immigration process. The Kuwait Visa platform, available via website and mobile application, now issues four distinct types of visas: Tourist Visa Family Visit Visa Business Visa Governmental Visa Each category serves specific needs, with streamlined online procedures for faster processing. The business visa, for instance, allows Kuwaiti companies to invite foreign business partners, with fees varying based on nationality. Detailed breakdown of tourist visa categories Tourist visas issued via the platform are classified into four categories, each with different eligibility conditions: Category 1: Nationals of 53 countries, mostly Western and developed nations. Includes 41 European countries, 8 Asian countries (such as Japan, Singapore, Brunei, South Korea, Hong Kong, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia), and the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Eligible individuals can obtain visas on arrival or through online application. No additional conditions or documentation required. Authorities still recommend applying online to avoid potential delays due to security screening. Category 2: Open to foreign residents of GCC countries, as well as individuals holding valid US, UK, Canadian, or Schengen visas. No longer requires proof of profession level, as the earlier stipulation for "medium to high" profession holders has been removed. No need for salary certificate or bank statement. Required documents: Passport copy Personal photo Confirmed air ticket Hotel booking Visa options: Single-entry: valid for 1, 2, or 3 months. Multiple-entry: valid for 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year (maximum stay: 1 month per entry). Category 3: For applicants not eligible under Categories 1 or 2. Must show proof of financial capacity through bank account statements. Final rules are still under review. Category 4: For individuals attending entertainment or sports events in Kuwait. Applications will open only during event periods. GCC expat residents now get visa on arrival, no prior application Just a day before the family visa reforms, Kuwait introduced a separate but equally significant change: foreign residents of GCC countries can now obtain tourist visas on arrival. The decision was introduced by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, and applies to expatriates living in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, or Kuwait, as long as their residency permit is valid for at least six months. Unlike before, there are no restrictions based on nationality, and travelers no longer need to apply in advance or go through embassies. The visa is issued directly at any entry point, by land, sea, or air, making travel to Kuwait much easier for non-GCC nationals living in the region. This move replaces older, more restrictive policies and is part of a wider shift across the Gulf to open up travel for residents. It also supports Kuwait's efforts to grow its tourism sector, which is expected to generate over $1.13 billion by 2025 through increased regional mobility and visitor numbers. FAQs: Q. Who can apply for the family visit visa under the new rules? Any legal expatriate resident in Kuwait can apply, regardless of income. Q. Which relatives are now eligible for family visit visas? Relatives up to the fourth degree by blood and third degree by marriage. Q. How long is the family visit visa valid? The visa is valid for one month only. Q. Do visitors have to use Kuwait's national airlines to enter? No, visitors can arrive by air, land, or sea using any carrier.

US tariffs not to impact India's growth; no threat to positive outlook on sovereign rating: S&P

New Delhi: Trump tariffs will not have any impact on India's growth, as it is not a trade-oriented economy, and its sovereign ratings outlook will continue to remain positive, S&P Global Ratings Director YeeFarn Phua said on Wednesday. In May last year, S&P had upgraded the outlook on India's sovereign rating of 'BBB-' to positive, citing robust economic growth. Replying to a query on whether the tariff imposition poses downside risks to the positive outlook on India, YeeFarn said, "I don't think the tariffs imposed on India will have an impact in terms of economic growth, largely because India is not a very trade-oriented economy. And if you look at India's exposure to the US in terms of exports to GDP, it is just about 2 per cent". Live Events S&P estimates India's GDP growth in the current fiscal year at 6.5 per cent, the same as it was in the previous financial year. YeeFarn further said major sectors, like pharmaceuticals and consumer electronics, which export to the US, are exempted from tariffs. "Over the longer term, we don't think this (higher tariffs) will be a big hit (on India's economy), and therefore, the positive outlook on India remains," YeeFarn said at a Webinar on Asia-Pacific Sovereign Ratings. To a query on whether US tariffs would impact investment flows into India, he said the 'China plus one' strategy has played out for businesses over the last few years, and companies are setting up businesses in India mainly to cater to domestic demand. "Many (businesses) are going there not because they are looking to export just to the US. Many of them are going there because of the huge domestic market as well. An emerging middle class is getting even for those who are looking to invest more in India and looking to export, it might not necessarily be the US market," YeeFarn said. In 2021-25, the US was India's largest trading partner. The US accounts for about 18 per cent of India's total goods exports, 6.22 per cent in imports, and 10.73 per cent in bilateral trade. With America, India had a trade surplus (the difference between imports and exports) of USD 35.32 billion in goods in 2023-24. It was USD 41 billion in 2024-25. In 2024-25, bilateral trade between India and the US reached USD 186 billion. India exported goods worth USD 86.5 billion while imports stood at USD 45.3 billion.

Dadar Kabutarkhana row escalates into Jain–Marathi manus face-off

MUMBAI: The Dadar Kabutarkhana controversy took a sharp communal turn on Wednesday as hundreds of Marathi Ekikaran Samiti members were detained while protesting against the Jain community's demand to allow pigeon feeding. The Samiti members said that they were angered by remarks from Jain monk Nileshchandra Vijay, who threatened an indefinite hunger strike and said he would 'pick up arms' if necessary to protect his religion. Police had denied the samiti permission to protest a day earlier, but by morning, heavy bandobast was in place with barricades, deployment of multiple police teams, and officers stationed outside the adjoining Jain temple. Protesters engaged in heated arguments with the police, demanding to know why no action was taken against Jain community members who had, last week, forcibly torn down the civic cover around the Kabutarkhana alleged even using knives and scissors. 'This is not a religious issue but a matter for the entire community,' said one protester, adding that if anyone was speaking about picking up weapons, 'they should clarify against whom. We come from the lineage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and are also capable of picking up weapons. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Compare Spreads: Bitcoin vs Ethereum CFDs IC Markets Learn More Undo Marathi manus will not tolerate this.' The crowd repeatedly chanted slogans of 'Marathi mansacha vijay aso.' Samiti member Govardhan Deshmukh accused the home minister of siding with 'a particular community' and ignoring the concerns of locals. 'We had gathered only to speak to the press and give our representation to police against those who threatened to take up arms if pigeon feeding was banned. We were not here to create unrest,' he said. The confrontation comes exactly one week after the Jain community staged their own protest at the same spot against the BMC's pigeon-feeding ban — a protest that ended with them dismantling the civic cover around the Kabutarkhana. The cover however was again put up by the BMC late on Sunday night. The Kabutarkhana, a long-standing feeding spot for pigeons at Dadar, has been at the centre of a civic drive to curb the practice due to public health concerns. In response to the Samiti's protest, Jain monk Nileshchandra Vijay clarified that his community would not use weapons and planned to protest peacefully — but only after Paryushan. 'When I said we will pick up shastra, I meant we would go on a hunger strike, following Mahatma Gandhi's path of satyagraha. Even if someone assaults us, we will endure it. If anyone believes we are disrespecting the Marathi manus, let me be clear — we will never take up arms. We believe in ahimsa,' he said. He added that while Rajasthan is the community's janmabhoomi, Maharashtra is their karmabhoomi, and they respect both Maharana Pratap and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. 'We are a peace-loving trading community. But if court decisions go against us, we will be compelled to protest. We did not use weapons to cut the Kabutarkhana cover — it was cut with a sharp tool used for cutting pipes. Even at Vile Parle, when our temple was demolished, 40,000 of us gathered and protested peacefully without weapons,' he said. Calling MNS chief Raj Thackeray 'the god of the Marathi language,' the monk urged him to intervene and end the controversy.
