Museum of Christian Art, Old Goa: Nestled within a centuries-old convent, this museum showcases Goa's Indo-Portuguese legacy through sacred art, religious artifacts, and gilded treasures.
Goa Chitra Museum, Benaulim: Founded by artist and curator Victor Hugo Gomes, Goa Chitra spans over 1,17,000 square meters and houses over 4,000 artifacts preserving the region's agrarian and cultural past.
Bonderam Festival, Divar Island: Held annually on the fourth Saturday of August, this vibrant parade features traditional music, dancing, mock battles, and colorful floats.
Chikhal Kalo Festival: A playful mud festival celebrating ancient traditions through music and community rituals.
Shigmo Festival: Goa's springtime cultural parade with folk dances, music, and dramatic floats depicting scenes from Hindu mythology and village life.

For your next Goan getaway, trade the ordinary for something truly special—like a stay at Vivenda Dos Palhacos, a lovingly restored 100-year-old Portuguese mansion in Majorda. With its vintage charm, sun-dappled pool, and warm hospitality, this boutique Airbnb is the perfect blend of comfort and cultural authenticity.
Simon, Airbnb host of 13 years at Vivenda Dos Palhacos, shares, 'There's something beautifully untrainable about Goan hospitality—it's intuitive, heartfelt, and steeped in tradition. Vivenda Dos Palhacos is more than just a home; it's part of the cultural tapestry of a South Goan village. From restored Portuguese architecture to heirloom furniture and communal meals, every corner tells a story. We don't have signs or reception desks—just an open-door spirit that invites connection."
'Over the years, we've hosted artists, writers, and explorers drawn to Goa's slower rhythm and soulful charm. Here, heritage isn't just remembered—it's lived every day."
Airbnb invites you to rediscover Goa—not just through its monuments, but through its music, festivals, art, and homes that carry its timeless legacy forward.

Kolkatans plan I-Day weekend getaways

1 2 3 4 Kolkata: With Independence Day falling on a Friday this year and the following Saturday and Sunday adding up to a three-day holiday, Kolkatans are making a beeline for weekend getaways. From beaches to hills, occupancy rates at top destinations such as Digha, Mandarmani, Santiniketan, Purulia, Mousuni, and Bankura have shot up over the past week. "We are seeing 95–100% occupancy in most properties for the weekend. Demand has been particularly strong for seaside resorts in Digha and Mandarmani," said Biprodas Chakraborty, joint secretary of Digha Shankarpur Hoteliers Association. "Enquiry and bookings for boutique stays in Santiniketan have also increased. Even homestays and small eco-resorts are fully booked," said Chandranath Banerjee of Bolpur Shantiniketan Hoteliers Association. "We didn't want to travel too far with kids, so we booked a pool villa at Raichak. It's more relaxed than rushing through a packed sightseeing schedule," said Aritra Saha, a graphic designer. SUV rental firms are also reporting a spike in bookings, especially for large groups headed to beaches or hill retreats. "All our bigger vehiclesare booked for the long weekend. People prefer the comfort of SUVs when travelling with friends or extended family," said Anirban Chakraborty, who runs a car rental service in New Alipore. "We had two 12-seater buses. They too were long booked." Tour operators say the long weekend has given many the perfect excuse for a short break before the festive season rush. "This year's Aug holiday stretch is as busy as Durga Puja in terms of short-haul travel," said tour planner Paritosh Banerjee. Many, like the newly wed Diptobrata Bhattacharya, are also driving to Puri with his wife and two other friends to spend the weekend as they plan to head out of the city after office on Thursday. Nationally, the top 10 most trending domestic cities for this long weekend include Puri, Goa, Udaipur, Jaipur, Lonavala, Varanasi, Coorg, Mahabaleshwar, Ooty, and Pondicherry. Among the international destinations closer to home, Pattaya, Bali, Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai, and Phuket are the trending short hauls. "Independence Day has emerged as a key travel occasion over the years. This year too, the search and booking trends point to strong intent to travel over the Independence Day weekend. With Independence Day on a Friday, travel demand appears to be peaking two days earlier, on Wednesday, Aug 13, giving early travellers a five-day window," said Rajesh Magow, co-founder and group CEO, MakeMyTrip. Aahana Kumra: I almost got arrested in Goa for fighting with a cop

Aahana Kumra recently enjoyed a memorable trip to Goa with friends. She fondly recalls a past incident where she almost got arrested for arguing with a police officer. Aahana Kumra was recently in Goa for a leisure trip with her friends — an impromptu getaway, she says 'It was my friend's 40th birthday. We stayed at this beautiful villa and had one of the best times in this weather. " Her connection with Goa goes back to her student days, when she had a brush with the law. 'I have the funniest memory that I almost got arrested in Goa for fighting with a cop. I had no idea what I was fighting about — it was just stupid. The Goa officer was like, 'No one has fought with me.' He was so angry that he almost arrested me. My friends asked me to say sorry, and then he let me go. Every time my friends mention Goa, they look at me and start laughing. ' She adds, 'Monsoons are my favourite time to go. The last few years, I've only been going during monsoons. It's pleasant, empty roads, cafes and beaches aren't crowded, and the food is great. Goa is the most beautiful during monsoons — everything is lush green.' Running remains part of her routine whenever she travels. 'I always carry my running shoes. This time, I ran around a small village in Goa. People were waving at me, it's the best way to see a city — doing the local things, looking around, admiring those small Goan houses, and soaking in the slow life. I love to go for a run when in Goa. The run at the beaches and roads, especially near Candolim, is so fulfilling.'
