Arsenal snubbed by Roma star as Mikel Arteta forced into transfer rethink

Daily Mirror5 days ago

Arsenal are looking to provide competition to William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in defence, with Evan Ndicka a top target, but the Ivory Coast international has reportedly handed a blow to Mikel Arteta
Roma star Evan Ndicka is set to snub a move to Arsenal, with the defender happy in the Italian capital after becoming one of the club's "immovable" players. Ndicka was an ever-present for Roma in the 2024-25 Serie A season, starting all 38 games as they finished fifth in the table under boss Claudio Ranieri.
The 25-year-old put in some solid displays at the back and has been linked with some top clubs across Europe. Arsenal are thought to be leading the way for his signature as they look to add competition alongside William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

But Ndicka has turned down a chance to move to Mikel Arteta 's side in favour of staying with Roma, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.

Even if Ndicka was interested in pursuing a move, any transfer would prove difficult because Roma see him as indispensable - highlighting him as one of eight "immovable" stars this summer.
Roma have decided that Ndicka is not for sale - along with Mile Svilar, Gianluca Mancini, Manu Kone, Niccolo Pisilli, Angelino, Paulo Dybala and Matias Soule.
The report says Ndicka is a "essential point of reference" and one of the "two pillars" of their defence with Mancini. The club will want him to stay put as they look to attract a new manager following the departure of Ranieri.

The report claims the player wants to continue his excellent form at the club, despite the team missing out on Champions League football.
Ndicka is an Ivory Coast international with 20 caps for his country. He has featured 82 times for Roma since joining them in 2023.

He previously turned out for Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played 183 games, having started his career with French side Auxerre.
Ndicka has previously spoken out about his future, insisting last month that he was committed to Roma - at least until the end of his contract.
"I'm not pretending that I don't see the rumours,' Ndicka told L'Equipe. "But I have respect in Rome and I respect them. I have three years remaining on my contract, we will see what happens later."
In addition to defence, Arsenal boss Arteta is desperately looking to upgrade his forward options. Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are two of his major targets after being left without a recognised No 9 for the season.

Rashford emerges as shock target for Italian giants amid Man Utd quandary

Marcus Rashford appears to have little future at Manchester United and the forward could potentially be in line for a blockbuster move to Italy ahead of next season Italian giants Inter Milan could make a move for Marcus Rashford after their Champions League humiliation. The Manchester United forward is on the lookout for his next club, with his future at Old Trafford less than certain. Rashford was unceremoniously cut from the squad by Ruben Amorim and joined Aston Villa on loan in January. The Midlands side have a £40m option to buy him this summer, albeit they have yet to activate that. ‌ A number of potential other suitors have emerged for Rashford's services and it appears that there is now interest from Italy. According to The Sun, Inter Milan have added the United forward to their summer shortlist as they aim to recover from their dismal Champions League final appearance. ‌ The Serie A giants were thumped 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in Munich. Club chiefs apparently believe that Rashford could be a perfect addition as they aim to rebuild the squad in the wake of that defeat. It is also said his signing would go a long way to getting fans back onside. Inter are apparently exploring a long-term loan move, albeit United would prefer a permanent deal. A source as quoted by The Sun said: 'Marcus is open-minded to a move abroad, and a fresh start. Lots of players have made the move from the Premier League to Serie A in recent years and performed very well. That's why the idea of such a switch excites both the player and Inter.' Away from Inter, Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in Rashford. Sporting director Deco was recently asked about a potential move but claimed work needed to be done behind the scenes before the Catalan side could consider adding new signings to their squad. 'We have been focusing on renewing contracts, after that, we'll discuss players to come," Deco said to BBC Sport. "Of course, these two players [Rashford and Luis Diaz], like you mentioned, they are good but have contracts in their clubs, so we won't speak because it's not fair. ‌ 'But when you decide to go to the market, for sure, we find some names. In my opinion, we don't need to bring many players. When I speak with the agents of the players, everyone wants to come or stay. 'So this is important. The image of the club is still good. We are proud because Barcelona is still such a big club, and the way we are playing football makes players want to come."

Simone Inzaghi leaves Inter Milan days after Champions League final defeat

The 49-year-old has been heavily linked with the job of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. Inter were chasing the treble as recently as late April only to be beaten by city rivals AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-finals before seeing Napoli claim the Serie A title by a single point. The final indignity came last weekend when they were routed 5-0 by PSG in Munich, their second defeat in the European showpiece in three years. Simone Inzaghi's message#FCIM — Inter ⭐⭐ (@Inter_en) June 3, 2025 It was decided that Inzaghi should depart during a meeting between the former Italy international and the club on Tuesday afternoon. Inter president Giuseppe Marotta said: 'I would like to thank Simone Inzaghi for the work he has done, for the passion shown and also for the sincerity in today's discussion, which led to the common decision to part ways. 'Only when we have fought together to achieve success day by day can we have a frank dialogue like the one that happened today.' Inzaghi won six trophies during his four seasons at San Siro, including the 2023-24 Serie A title. A post shared by UEFA Champions League (@championsleague) He said: 'The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a four-year-long journey, throughout which I gave my all. 'Every day my first and last thought was always about Inter. It was then reciprocated with professionalism and passion by the players, leaders, and every single one of the club's employees. 'I would like to thank the shareholders for their unwavering support, as well as the president and his associates for their daily help and constant dialogue. 'On every difficult day, just like today, I think it's right to reiterate this sense of gratitude, even for the meeting that we had not long ago. We were sincere and together we decided to conclude this magnificent journey.'

Botti savouring ‘special day' with Italian Derby hero Molveno

Having seen his father Alduino, his uncle Giuseppe and his brother Stefano enjoy multiple victories in the Capannelle Classic, the Newmarket-based trainer was thrilled to get his name on the roll of honour, with fellow Italian Marco Ghiani in the saddle. Botti said: 'We had a nice dinner with the jockey and his family last night and it was great. 'For us the Italian Derby means a lot. My dad won it a few times, as has my brother, so he couldn't be too upset finishing second and third this year! 'It was a great ride and I thought the horse was very brave. At one point I thought he'd slipped a little bit too far back in a field, but he actually picked up well in the straight.' Molveno won three times on the all-weather during the winter and was last seen filling the runner-up spot in a handicap over Newmarket's Rowley Mile. He faced a hike in class and distance in Rome, but Botti was confident his charge had what it took to make his presence felt. 'I always thought the extra three furlongs shouldn't be an issue. After his last run at Newmarket we thought we'd step up in trip and I said to the owner, who is Italian-based, if you want to go for the Italian Derby I wouldn't be against it,' he added. 'He loves fast ground. I know with his form you wondered whether he'd be good enough or not, but I've bought a few horses for my brother rated 90/95 who have been competitive, so we said we'd take a chance and it worked out quite well. 'I'm sure it was special for Marco as well. It was his first Group Two winner, he was born in Italy and his parents were there, so it was a special day for sure.' Molveno looks set to enjoy a short break following his Italian heroics before being campaigned abroad later in the year. Botti said: 'Having won a Group Two it will be really tough for him in England and as he travelled so well and likes fast ground, I think we'll campaign him more in the second half of the season in a few races maybe in Qatar and Bahrain and places like that. 'I think that's what we'll do. He deserves a break now as it's a long way to Rome, so we'll freshen him up and get him ready for the second part of the season.'
