Vernon Kay talks shift in his ways after keeping wife Tess Daly waiting 'a long time'
Sharing his thoughts, the host responded: "Life admin, I hate it." He then joked: "I woke up this morning first thing, quarter to seven and did some life admin.
"I'll be honest with you, I thought, 'Aye, look at me, adulting before I've even had my cup of tea!'". After Ella described this move as "impressive", he replied: "Do you know what I mean?
"I [usually] have my cup of tea and go and sit and watch the garden, get my head right, but I did a little bit of adulting before I put the kettle on." Vernon humorously went on to say he was eager to share the news with his wife Tess Daly, the Strictly Come Dancing presenter, for a treat in return.
"I tell you what though, wait 'til I tell Tess. I'll have a three-course dinner waiting for me when I get home," he quipped.
Mimicking what her reaction might be, he added: "'You actually did something sensible?' You know what I mean?
"'Wow, you've actually done something that benefits the family.' 'Yep, I really have!'"
Ella then asked: "How many years has she been waiting for that?".
He replied: "Yep, a long time! I'm really chuffed, like, 'Wow, look at me, I'm grown up. Yep.'
"You know what I'll be doing this afternoon? Buying bath taps — because that's when you're officially an adult."
Vernon returned to his radio show on Monday, after enjoying a break in the South of France with Tess and their two daughters; Phoebe, 20, and Amber, 16.

Chatting to listeners about his getaway, the broadcaster revealed he'd witnessed a transformation in the couple's youngest daughter particularly.
He explained: "We had such a good time, it was that holiday, and mums and dads will know, it was that holiday where you babies become teenagers.
"I mean, I know Phoebe is [nearly] 21, but the youngest Amber, we saw that change, that switch flipped from wanting to just, you know, swim, paddle, no, no, no, no.

"The gear change was, 'Swimming, paddling?', 'No, let's see if we can find somewhere where we can dance on tables and waft a handkerchief above our heads'."
After this revelation, Vernon disclosed that he and the family enjoyed "a little bit of a rave-up" and "a good time".
Vernon Kay's show airs weekdays from 9.30am on BBC Radio 2

Strictly line-up 2025: Gladiators' Nitro is the first confirmed celebrity
Autumn is clearly just around the corner because the Strictly Come Dancing line-up reveal has begun. All the celebrity names are expected to be announced over the course of this week. As ever, rumours have been swirling around who will be taking part. Among those reported to be hitting the dancefloor are Love Island star Dani Dyer, Stefan Dennis – better known as Paul from Neighbours, Traitors 2024 winner Jake Brown, Mo Farah and presenter Angellica Bell. The BBC will be hoping for a controversy-free contest after being beset by scandal in recent years. Last year Wynne Evans, the opera singer and radio presenter, was dropped by the BBC after he was accused of using 'inappropriate language' during the launch of the Strictly Come Dancing tour. This was after the 2024 series started in crisis after allegations of bullying against professional dancer Giovanni Pernice and claims of physical and verbal abuse against dancer Graziano di Prima. New safeguarding measures were put in place and, in the end, the series proved to be a ratings success. When is Strictly Come Dancing? There's no confirmed date yet, but it usually begins on the third weekend of September. Who is in the 2025 line-up so far? Nitro from Gladiators Olympian and multi-gold medal-winning Team GB sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey was announced as the first contestant on Newsround. Since retiring from athletics, the 36-year-old has taken on a new persona as Nitro in the hugely popular reboot of Gladiators. He also took part in last year's Christmas special, where he was partnered with Nancy Xu. He said: 'After the Christmas special, it was so nice I just had to do it twice! I'm so excited to be part of the Strictly family this series, and I'm ready to give it all I've got. I'll be bringing tons of energy to light up the dance floor. Let's hope I'm as quick picking up the routines as I am on the track.' Who are the professional dancers this year? All the pros from last year will be returning. They are Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystał, Johannes Radebe, Aljaž Škorjanec, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola. They will also be joined by two new recruits: Alexis Warr, who won the 2022 American series So You Think You Can Dance, and Australian ballroom dancer and physiologist Julian Caillon.
