Orlando Pirates respond to R120m Mofokeng news

Orlando Pirates superstar Relebohile Mofokeng is hotly tipped with a move to Europe after the 20-year-old winger's 12 goals and 15 assists in 49 games last season.
Meanwhile, Soccer Laduma reported that Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven have offered Orlando Pirates R120 million for Mofokeng.
The Soweto giants have since responded by categorising the report as fake news.

'Orlando Pirates Football Club has taken note of the article published by SoccerLaduma.com on Tuesday, 16 July 2025, titled: R120m For Mofokeng? How PSV's Linked To Pirates Sensation,' the club said.

'We wish to place it on record that no such offer has been received by the Club. The claims made in the article are not only false but also irresponsible and damaging,' the note continued.
'As a publication with a long-standing history in South African football, Soccer Laduma is expected to uphold the highest standards of journalism rooted in fact, accuracy, and responsibility. Unfortunately, in this instance, they have chosen sensationalism over truth,' concluded Orlando Pirates.

Saru's Rian Oberholzer: Springbok rugby's future in good hands after U20 success

The Junior Springboks' victory in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship highlights the thriving future of South African rugby according to Saru chief Rian Oberholzer (pictured). Picture supplied The Junior Springboks' victory in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship shows that the game is thriving at every level in the country, according to SA Rugby Union (Saru) chief Rian Oberholzer. As the Springboks have won the last two Rugby World Cup titles, the fact that the junior side is following in their footsteps means the long-term future of the game is in good hands. It was also the first time in 13 years that an SA side has triumphed in the Under-20 showpiece event. Oberholzer said a lot of work went on behind the scenes which has led to the strong position of SA rugby.

Kaizer Chiefs strongest XI with new signings this season

Kaizer Chiefs will open their 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Stellenbosch on 10 August. Having returned from their pre-season in the Netherlands, Amakhosi have just over two weeks to prepare for the big clash. Unfortunately for them, they won't feature in the MTN8 competition after failing to finish in the top 8 last season. This weekend, they will play Asante Kotoko of Ghana in the Toyota Cup in Durban, where supporters will see new players in action for the first time on South African soil. Goalkeeper: Brandon Petersen The experienced keeper appears to be Nabi's first-choice keeper this season. His leadership has been vital, especially in the final of the Nedbank Cup, where Amakhosi were victorious. Defenders: Reeve Frosler (RB) The experienced defender is more likely to be Kaizer Chiefs' first choice as opposed to new signing Thabiso Monyane. Dillan Solomons could also be used as a sub rather than a starter. Miguel Inacio (CB) Miguel is set to be the new Amakhosi captain with the departure of Yusuf Maart. He has looked solid in big games, but his disciplinary record has to improve. On his day, the Angolan international is one of the best defenders in the PSL. Aden McCarthy (CB) The young centre-back who impressed during pre-season in the Netherlands. He has become a new favourite and expect him to bench Given Msimango when in the opening matches. With regular centre-back Rushwin Dortley still not fit, McCarthy will no doubt be Miguel's defensive partner. Bradley Cross (LB) Bradley Cross is more likely to start ahead of Nkanyiso Shinga at left-back. Shinga has looked vulnerable and it's more likely that Nasreddine Nabi will opt for Cross in the opening matches. Paseka Mako could be an option when he recovers from injury. Midfielders: Thabo Cele (CM) Thabo Cele is no doubt Kaizer Chiefs' best player. Since his arrival, he had looked like the leader the club needs. During pre-season, he was far the best player and looks like he is getting more comfortable in the midfield role alongside Sibongiseni Mthethwa. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo (AM) Ngcobo has excelled this pre-season and looks like a different player. If he can carry the form that he showed in Holland, he will be an asset for Amakhosi this season. Siphesihle Ndlovu (DM) He might be one of Kaizer Chiefs' surprise signings. Ex-player Reneilwe Letsholonyane has praised the former SuperSport United midfielder, saying he is the kind of player who will fight for every ball and show commitment. Forwards: Makabi Lilepo (LW) The Congolese attacker is one of the few standout players from last season. He will no doubt start most of Amakhosi's matches but it remains to be seen if he will show the same explosiveness he showed in his first three months at the club. Pule Mmodi (RW) Mmodi has been hot and cold for Kaizer Chiefs and perhaps this could finally be his season where he impresses. Flavio Silva (Str) Nabi has always preferred to have a target man, hence he signed Silva. If the 29-year-old striker can find form early in the season, Amakhosi could play him upfront while Lilepo, Mmodi and Ngcobo provide. What are Orlando Pirates not saying about Relebohile Mofokeng?

Orlando Pirates have denied reports of a R120 million offer from PSV for striker Relebohile Mofokeng, but their statement did not address his future at the club, leaving uncertainty about his potential departure. Picture: Itumeleng English/Independent Media Image: Itumeleng English/Independent Media As the rumours continue to swirl about the future of star Orlando Pirates striker Relebohile Mofokeng, it's worth taking a closer look at the statement from the club on the player. Pirates were quick to rubbish reports on July 16 that PSV had made an offer of R120m for the 20-year-old. According to Mofokeng's market value is around R33 million. In a 178-word statement on its website, Pirates went on the offensive to say no such offer had been received by the club. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading Statement Addresses Media Reports Without Dispelling Rumours About Mofokeng's Future It ended the statement with the line: 'We call upon all media outlets to refrain from publishing unverified reports that seek to create instability for the sake of clicks.' What was revealing about the statement though, is that nowhere did it say something to dispel rumours that Mofokeng may in fact be leaving the club. Instead, it targeted the publication for publishing the story and the amount in question. Surely if the club wanted to stamp out rumours about Mofokeng, it would add that Mofokeng is committed to his future at the club? Pirates' Silence on Player Rumours: Monnapule Saleng's Absence and Mofokeng's Future Uncertain It's not the first time Pirates have done little to prevent rumours starting about their players. For over six months, there was no word on Monnapule Saleng. The star player was inexplicably absent from the Pirates team since December 7. There had even been rumours that Saleng might join rivals Kaizer Chiefs at one point, and yet Pirates did not address such reports. Only when he was loaned out to Orbit College earlier this month did the public get any clarification on his future. As for Mofokeng, whether he continues to ply his trade for Pirates remains to be seen; all we know is how much money hasn't been offered for the young talent. @Michael_Sherman IOL Sport
