Eric Bischoff Criticizes John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes For ‘Missing The Mark' At WrestleMania 41

Yahoo07-05-2025

WrestleMania 41 was a history-making event. A record that was held on for nearly three decades came to an end. It was when John Cena defeated Cody Rhodes to become the WWE Undisputed World Champion for the 17th time in his career. While fans and the rest of the wrestling world are appreciating John Cena for breaking Ric Flair's record, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has revealed that he is not happy with the match.
While speaking on the latest episode of the 83 Weeks Podcast, Eric Bischoff shared that he felt that there was a lack of chemistry between John Cena and Cody Rhodes. He feels that when both stars rewatch the match, they should feel like they missed the mark.

'I have to believe when both those guys watch this match back, they're going to go, 'We missed it. We missed the mark because that match just didn't create emotion…the responsibility is equal among the parties. The chemistry wasn't there. I don't think the story was there to begin with. The heel turn was soft. I didn't say it's bad, but it was soft. It wasn't compelling. There was nothing that felt different than a million other turns we've seen before. Yes, for all of you people who say I never criticize WWE, please pay attention. That story missed the mark from the get-go, and we talked about it here. And it just hasn't gotten any better. I believe it had a lack of heat, just lack of a good story,' Eric Bischoff said. [H/T Fightful]

WWE Money In The Bank 2025: Date, Time And How To Watch

Technically, Money in the Bank is not a 'Big 4' premium live event, but those who know understand how big of a role the MITB briefcase plays in the WWE story over the course of the year. This year's version shouldn't be much different. Here's the info you need to watch the event. Money in the Bank 2025 takes place Saturday, July 6, live from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. This marks the first WWE Premium Live Event hosted at the new venue. The show is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT, with a kickoff show scheduled for one hour prior. For U.K. fans, that's a midnight start time. In the U.S., fans will need an active Peacock Premium subscription to stream the show live. In the UK, fans can watch on Netflix. This year's card is already loaded with high-profile matches. The men's and women's Money in the Bank ladder matches feature a blend of main event talent and fast-rising newcomers. For the men, names like Seth Rollins, LA Knight, and Solo Sikoa are already established stars with an imprint in the WWE fabric while Penta and Andrade have an opportunity to take serious steps on the WWE journey. El Grande Americano is the real sleeper as it is clear WWE believes in Chad Gable and they may want to deliver something unexpected with his character. Could he win the MITB but be faced with a dilemma about revealing his true identity? Did El Grande Americano win the MITB or was it Gable? The women's match is equally stacked, with Naomi, Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss, Roxanne Perez and standout newcomers Stephanie Vacquer an Giulia all vying for the contract. Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso will team up to face John Cena and Logan Paul in a high-profile tag team match that bridges generational lines. It's a wild blend of legacy, mainstream crossover, and storyline tension with championship implications just under the surface–especially if the winner of the men's MITB tries to cash in on Cena or Uso. Even in a post-WrestleMania world, Money in the Bank has stayed relevant because of its volatility. The contract hanging above the ring is a gimmick that works and helps to shape the careers of stars at different points in their careers. It gave Rollins arguably his defining moment. It elevated Damian Priest last year, though it's seemingly been fumbled since. Perhaps it'll serve as the launch pad for Saturday night's winners.

Roxanne Perez Pushes For Popular WWE Legend To Wrestle One More Match

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. WWE Raw superstar Roxanne Perez has called for former WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee to make an in-ring comeback. She has gone as far as stating Lee is her ultimate dream opponent. Lee, a pivotal figure in WWE's women's division, has not competed since her retirement in 2015. However, WWE fans have long hoped for her return. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Perez did not hold back her admiration. When asked if a match against AJ Lee would be a dream scenario, Perez emphatically stated, "Absolutely. Absolutely." She continued, "AJ Lee is my—that could be my retirement match, to be honest. She is definitely my dream match and I have a feeling that that could happen if she comes back. Please come back." Lee was a three-time Divas Champion and known for her unique persona and strong mic skills, leaving a significant mark before the full swing of the Women's Evolution. Her departure in April 2015 left many WWE fans wanting more. More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation Perez's comments come after a report from WrestleVotes suggested that WWE is very open to the idea of an AJ Lee return. WrestleVotes previously stated, "It is a question I get quite a bit. SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA - JANUARY 17: Roxanne Perez surprises Bayley from the stands during Smackdown at Pechanga Arena on January 17, 2025 in San Diego, California. As far as I know, WWE is totally on board for it. They would welcome it." The report continued, "She picks up the phone and she says, 'I'm in.' They're going to say, 'Yes. What took so long?'" However, WrestleVotes also noted the personal nature of such a decision: "I would say the only two people that probably know that answer are AJ Lee and CM Punk, and whatever that answer may be is up to them. So we'll see." Perez, herself a former NXT Women's Champion and one of WWE Raw's rising stars, clearly represents a new generation inspired by talents like Lee. Her public plea adds another voice to the chorus hoping to see Lee lace up her boots once more. While any return is purely speculative and up to Lee, the enthusiasm of current talent and WWE's reported openness keep that dream alive for many fans. It will be interesting to see if Lee comes back ever, considering it's been a decade. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.
