Mayor Adams claims he doesn't know antisemitic influencer Sneako after baffling Gracie Mansion cigar smoking hangout

New York Post16-06-2025
He must have snuck in?
Mayor Eric Adams admitted Monday that the hateful influencer Sneako wasn't vetted before the antisemite visited Gracie Mansion for a chummy late-night interview that drew outrage from critics.
Adams said he didn't know Sneako's bigoted views and cast the friendly Saturday night sitdown over cigars as an unfortunate byproduct of his willingness to chat with 'anyone and everyone.'

'I don't know the young man,' Adams told reporters. 'I'm not familiar with his streaming at all.'
He said he was smoking a cigar with his rapper and podcaster son Jordan Coleman on the back porch of Gracie Mansion when unspecified 'other people' joined him, who 'brought people with them.'

Sneako — whose real name is Nicolas 'Nico' Kenn De Balinthazy, 26 — was apparently among the group of strangers, leading to the bizarre spectacle Saturday of New York City's mayor sitting down with a streamer who has declared 'Down with the Jews!'
The interview prompted a torrent of criticism for Adams, including from prominent Israel ally Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-Bronx), who posted on social media with disgust: 'Who's next on the guest list — David Duke?'
Adams, while speaking to reporters at unrelated event with NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch about the department's new quality of life initiative, contended the interview was unplanned.

'(Sneako) was one of the people that engaged in that conversation,' Adams said. 'I didn't know his history.'
Controversial influencer Amber Rose, who has become a vocal supporter of President Trump, was among the people present during the Gracie Mansion smoking session-turned-interview.
Coleman told The Post that his dad met Rose at a dinner earlier that week.
He said Adams was also excited to practice for a future podcast with him.

'Not sure how Sneako got involved!' Coleman said.
Rose, in a tweet featuring The Post's coverage of the cigar summit, defended Sneako and ripped the affair as 'FAKE NEWS!!!'
'I was there and know @sneako!!' she posted on X. 'He's a Jew! Liarrrrrsss why are you trying to sabotage @NYCMayor???'

Sneako's bigoted history includes being banned from Twitch for 'extreme hateful conduct,' praising accused rapist misogynist Andrew Tate and cultivating ties with white nationalist Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, as well as the Hitler-loving rapper formerly known as Kanye West.
The interview was all the more baffling given Adams' plan to run for re-election on an 'EndAntiSemitism' party line and action highlighting his stance against hatred of Jewish people.
When asked about whether Sneako should have been vetted more, Adams said 'yes' and embarked on a long tangent about his openness to engage with all New Yorkers, including high schoolers.

'Hindsight is 20-20,' he said.
'One of the downsides of my style of mayoralty, I engage with everyone,' Adams said. 'My team criticizes me all the time. They criticize me when I give my phone number to high school students to text me when there's a problem. They criticize that I'm willing to sit in the room with anyone and everyone.'
Adams hinted if he had known Sneako's hateful stances, he still would have conducted the interview to push back against them.
'I've been extremely strong on hate in this city of any kind, not only for Jewish residents. I fought against Islamaphobia, anti-Sikhism, anti-LGBTQ+ criticism,' he said.

'And so I wish I would have known his stances, because I would've loved to have engaged in a conversation with him on that. But I'm open to sit down and be interviewed by anyone, because I'm clear on my message of fighting hate.'
Tisch, who is Jewish, gave an unsolicited endorsement of Adams' personal commitment to antisemitism.
'In a world where so many people who have public voices have abandoned the Jewish people, have allowed the rhetoric around Jews and the state of Israel to shift from outrage to incitement, in a world where we've seen hate crimes against Jews go up 80% in 20 months, Mayor Eric Adams has been unwavering and strong and true to his commitments from day one,' she said.

Turns Out Research Tax Breaks Alone Can't Conjure Developers

In the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), Congress revived a lapsed tax break that lets companies immediately deduct the cost of research and development (R&D). This was a big win, on its face, for innovation and U.S. job creation. At first glance, it has much promise: job postings for R&D should surge, tech startups are scrapping overseas hiring plans, and software engineers are hot again. So far, so good. But here is the catch—or at least a potential catch: what happens when you juice demand for domestic tech labor without increasing the supply? What happens if, in fact, you reduce supply by constraining immigration? Ultimately, you may find yourself not accelerating innovation—but inflating labor costs. Incentives Without Infrastructure The new version of Section 174 lets companies fully expense R&D costs in the same year they are incurred. However, expensing is limited to domestic costs. That is a huge incentive to hire within the U.S., particularly for high cost, labor-intensive tech startups. It is also a welcome return to the pre-2017 status quo, when the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act phased in a requirement that forced companies to amortize R&D costs over five years domestically, and fifteen years abroad. However, unlikel capital, labor is not instantly and infinitely scalable. You can't conjure a mid-career artificial intelligence engineer or a competent data scientist out of thin air. And, if you enact policies that curtail immigration, you can't call one from abroad either. As it turns out, we've made it harder, not easier, to bring in new talent—and now we've accelerated demand for the talent we do have. A Subsidy for Scarcity You can squint at the numbers and begin to see this shift already. Demand for U.S. based R&D roles is up 15-20% in just the past month, according to staffing firms. And some companies are now paying as much as 20-25% more to hire U.S. based engineers. The deduction, in effect, is being offset by wage inflation. The R&D shift isn't so much a tax incentive for innovation as a subsidy for talent scarcity. While immigration might normally ease that pressure, it is hardly a footnote in today's policy playbook. On the boats and on the planes, people simply aren't coming to America. If you can't import more talent, and you can't afford the rising cost of domestic labor, your only option as a startup is to scale back. This is the quiet paradox of modern innovation policy. We subsidize supply chains, enact tariffs by social media post and whim, fund domestic fabs, and now write off R&D wages – all in the interest of international competitiveness. But if the workforce can't scale with those policies, the policy just cannibalizes itself. Hiring slows, projects get delayed, marginal innovation doesn't happen, and companies we claim to support are left treading water in a labor-crunched economy, unable to fulfill the demand for domestic products that our ill-considered policies helped create. Normally, labor market imbalances can also resolve themselves through expanded domestic training pipelines: STEM programs, coding bootcamps, workforce grants, and more money flowing to education. But none of that is happening—at least not at scale. Even if the current administration reverses course and makes educational initiatives a priority, they can take years to yield results. So what happens next? If you can't import more talent, you can't train more talent, and you can't afford the rising cost of domestic labor, plans need to change. The question becomes, 'should we hire at all or wait out the current political climate and see what 2028 brings?' The Labor Market Becomes the Bottleneck In theory, Section 174 is pro-growth and innovation. In practice, it may just be another short-term sugar rush—juicing the labor market without adding any actual economic nutrients. We're frontloading cost savings, backloading the labor problem, and hoping that somewhere in there innovation still occurs. There is a better way, of course: R&D expensing is good policy. But it needs to be paired with other tools, like high-skilled visa reform, targeted immigration pipelines, and sustained and predictable domestic training investments. Otherwise, we're just creating a bidding war for a small pool of engineers and calling it progress. Turns out, tax breaks can nudge companies toward domestic hiring—they just can't conjure a developer that doesn't exist.

Sen. Chuck Grassley demands probe of ‘bureaucrats' who sidelined CBP whistleblowers — and were promoted

WASHINGTON — Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is demanding an investigation of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials who allegedly retaliated against whistleblowers who flagged failures to fingerprint potentially dangerous criminal migrants, The Post can exclusively reveal. The Senate Judiciary Committee chairman fired off a letter Monday to CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott naming and shaming those 'bureaucrats' who were promoted even after they sidelined whistleblowers Fred Wynn, Mike Taylor and Mark Jones. 'To ensure that retaliation does not happen again at [Department of Homeland Security], CBP, or any of the Department's other component agencies, the bureaucrats that retaliated against Mr. Wynn, Mr. Taylor, and Mr. Jones must be held accountable,' Grassley told Scott. Advertisement 6 Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is demanding an investigation into US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials who allegedly retaliated against whistleblowers pointing out failures to fingerprint criminal migrants in custody. REUTERS 'Although it's unclear to me whether all retaliators have faced consequences, I've been made aware that some have been promoted,' he added. The Iowa Republican singled out Ronald Ocker, assistant commissioner of CBP's Office of Intelligence, and Juan Fernandez, the executive director of that office, for having 'improperly removed' the whistleblowers nearly a decade ago from a pilot program to implement the DNA Fingerprint Act of 2005. Advertisement Jones, Taylor and Wynn worked in the agency's Weapons of Mass Destruction Division between 2016 and 2018 — and found out that federal law enforcement officers weren't enforcing the statute. 6 All three CBP agents worked in the agency's Weapons of Mass Destruction Division between 2016 and 2018 — and uncovered that federal law enforcement officers weren't enforcing the statute. James Keivom As a result, DNA from criminal arrestees hadn't been collected since 2009, allowing 'subjects subsequently accused of violent crimes, including homicide and sexual assault, to elude detection even when detained multiple times by CBP or Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),' according to an earlier investigation by the US Office of Special Counsel (OSC). Those 'exceptions to DNA sample collection from criminal arrestees' had been approved by former Attorney General Eric Holder during the Barack Obama administration. Advertisement 'I believe that if you could get the totality for that period of time [since 2009] … of how many Americans ended up being killed as a result, I think it probably exceeds the number of Americans who died on 9/11,' one source with direct knowledge of the security failure previously told The Post. 6 In his April confirmation hearing, CBP commissioner-designate Rodney Scott had promised Grassley he would 'look into' the case and 'hold people accountable if they've violated policies.' Paul Martinka When the whistleblowers drew attention to the issue, they faced professional and financial consequences — including being kicked off of the WMD pilot program by Ocker and Fernandez, according to Grassley's letter. Jones, who served as acting director of the pilot WMD fingerprint program, was passed over for the director position at a new office called the Operational Field Testing Division, which conducted similar law enforcement work Advertisement Taylor lost retirement benefits and had his pension payments stopped. Both he and Jones were also stripped of their guns and badges. 6 But when they drew attention to it, the CBP whistleblowers faced professional and financial consequences — including being kicked off of the WMD pilot program by Ocker and Fernandez, according to Grassley's letter. Catherine Herridge Reports OSC's investigation concluded that CBP officials 'retaliated against' the three agents 'for actual or perceived disclosures of wrongdoing,' Grassley noted in his letter. 'OSC also noted that Fernandez did not name Mr. Jones Acting Deputy Director of Operational Field Testing Division (OFTD), despite stating in a March 6, 2018, email that it would happen,' the senator also stated. 'Further, OSC found that both Ocker and Fernandez engaged in retaliation when they passed Mr. Jones over for Director of the OFTD when it stated, 'the agency does not have strong evidence in support of its stated reason or decision not to interview Mr. Jones or fairly consider him for the OFTD Director position.'' 6 Grassley had also relayed details of their case to DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari in May 2024. REUTERS Jones, Taylor and Wynn were only given new supervisory roles, backpay and their retirement benefits back in May after Grassley highlighted the 'seven-year nightmare these brave whistleblowers endured.' In his April confirmation hearing, Scott had promised Grassley he would 'look into' the case and 'hold people accountable if they've violated policies.' Advertisement 'Thank you for always stepping up and supporting the whistleblowers. I think it's a critical part of our government, it pushes transparency,' Scott also told the Republican senator. 6 The trio received new supervisory roles, backpay and retirement benefits in May after Grassley highlighted the 'seven-year nightmare these brave whistleblowers endured.' AP 'I do know those three, and I know one allegation that's never been levied against them is a challenge of their integrity.' Grassley had also relayed details of the case to DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari in May 2024. That office is still believed to be investigating the matter as well. Reps for CBP did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

DHS speechwriter linked to hateful social accounts while claiming American conservatives are ostracized like Jews in Nazi Germany

A speechwriter at the Department of Homeland Security has been linked to hateful posts on social media, reportedly claiming that American conservatives are ostracized like the Jews were in Nazi Germany. A blog post reportedly authored by Eric Lendrum celebrated the January 6 insurrection and compared the following fallout for conservatives to the Holocaust and slavery, Notus reported. 'American conservatives are, right now, on a course for being every bit as ostracized and alienated from broader society as Jews were in the years leading up to Nazi Germany,' he claimed in a 2021 blog post on American Greatness, a rightwing opinion and news site. Lendrum posted on the site until March of this year. His podcast, The Right Take, is listed in the author's description on the site. On one episode of the podcast, he said he liked watching videos of scared legislators during the Jan 6 insurrection. 'There's something so gratifying about seeing the images of these members of Congress — especially the Democrats — crouching under their chairs, putting on those stupid, like, bubble masks, those anti-gas bubble masks, and then taking selfies,' a laughing Lendrum said just days after the Capitol riot. In another episode, published in October 2022, Lendrum said immigrants put Europe at risk, while also backing the 'great replacement theory.' The far-right theory claims that nonwhite immigrants are damaging the influence of white people. 'Given the direction of Europe right now, we could use a far-right government at this point,' said Lendrum. On X, the account @realEricLendrum has argued for the removal of transgender 'ideology' and compared asylum seekers to 'scum.' In another podcast episode, Lendrum referenced his brief period as a press assistant at the Interior Department during the first Trump administration, saying that he would only return to government if he could be closer to the president. 'If I could work more closely with him, that is the one case in which I would ever go back into government work,' said Lendrum, whose online profile was first reported by Notus. 'Government work is not fun.' The Independent has attempted to reach Lendrum for comment. The DHS Office of Public Affairs states that a speechwriter at the department is responsible for preparing 'speeches, talking points, editorials, Congressional testimony, video scripts, web content, and other written content for the Secretary and Deputy Secretary.' The department ranks as the largest federal law enforcement agency. In one of the blog posts linked to Lendrum, he appeared to argue that conservatives were facing political oppression similar to that of slaves and victims of the Holocaust. 'It has been said that the most surefire way to create an authoritarian regime is to completely dehumanize a significant portion of the population, so that their subsequent enslavement by the state will not face any larger resistance. It was true during slavery, it was true during the Holocaust, and it is true now,' the blog post stated. Responding to questions from The Independent, DHS shared a link to the text of the First Amendment. The X account linked to Lendrum argued that the U.S. should treat immigrants as an 'invading army.' 'They are not migrants. They are not 'undocumented.' They are an invading army. The largest invasion in American history,' one post stated in May 2023. 'And what are you supposed to do with an invading army? Crush it, by any means necessary. That's the #AmericaFirst way.' Also in the blog post about January 6, the author said, 'The Democrats were absolutely terrified — literally cowering under their seats, horrified at the prospect of mere peasants walking through the halls of their castle.' The lawmakers, including Republicans, were escorted by Capitol Police through the Capitol complex. 'The truth is that they are grateful the events of that day unfolded as they did,' the post argued regarding the Democrats. In a podcast episode published in April 2023, he said he would 'always properly deadname t***** freaks.' 'I will keep calling them t******* because I know it's derogatory, and I know they freakin' hate it. That's why I deadname them. That's why I use their original pronouns,' he said. 'You control the language. Don't give these freaks an inch on the language.' 'We need to eradicate transgenderism. Wipe it off the face of the Earth. Destroy it. Get rid of it,' he added. 'As a disclaimer, I'm not saying to wipe the people out. I'm not saying get rid of the people. I'm saying eliminate the ideology. Cure these people.'
