The abseiling cleaners who dust off old RAF planes
The RAF Museum Midlands is home to a vast collection of former war planes set up inside the site's hangars.
Among the displays at the museum, based at RAF Cosford in Shropshire, is the National Cold War Exhibition, which gives visitors the chance to learn about threats posed to world peace during the latter half of the 20th Century.
The exhibition features the RAF's V-bombers, the Victor, Valiant and Vulcan, some of which are suspended from the ceiling.
But the impressive spectacle means cleaning the planes can present somewhat of a challenge.
Every year, industrial specialists rig up a rope system that allows brave spring cleaners to access the aircraft from the ceiling.
Speaking to BBC Radio Shropshire before this year's operation, which took place on Tuesday, director of Totally Wild Access Alex Picken said workers "basically abseil down and give the planes a dusting".
"It's a lot of work for a light dusting," he added.
While this year's work primarily focused on the Cold War exhibition, workers were also due to clean World War Two bombers the Wellington and Lincoln.
Mr Picken said the main issue was getting above the planes, due to the hangar being "quite a big building".
The cleaners had to first climb the structure, before rigging a set of lines to get them down to the planes, he explained.
"Some of the war planes in this hangar are very, very big, including the Vulcan and the Valiant," Mr Picken said.
"It can take a while to dust them because, after a year of leaving them, there's a lot of dust that gathers on these planes."
Mr Picken said he had been working at the site for six years and also helped to inspect lifting systems used to suspend the planes.
He described the cleaning operation as a "challenge" that attracted people with a passion for activities like mountaineering or climbing.
"It goes hand-in-hand with what we enjoy," he added. "It's definitely physical but it is good fun as well."

Huge fire at abandoned Woolton Hall mansion in Liverpool
Firefighters are tackling a major blaze at an abandoned Grade I-listed manor house in in 1704, Woolton Hall previously served as a hotel, an army hospital, a convent and a school but had fallen into disrepair in recent years. Research to begin in Lincoln into WW2 RAF losses in far east
Research is to take place into losses sustained by RAF bomber crews in the far east during World War International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) said, while Bomber Command did not serve in the region during the war, its aircraft and crews were assigned to a new unit called Tiger Force to provide long-range bombing support in the Allied advance against force was never deployed, as the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and Japan surrendered in fund the research, the centre in Lincoln is selling thousands of ceramic poppies arranged in the shape of a Lancaster Bomber to mark Victory in Europe (VE) Day and VJ Day this year. Nicky van der Drift, chief executive of the IBCC, said: "Once the research on the far eastern theatre is complete, our Losses Database will have honoured and recorded every life lost in any of the Second World War bombing commands, including the Mediterranean theatre, 2 TAF and Command."The database will provide an additional resource, not only for military historians and visitors to our site, but also for family history websites." Ms van der Drift said the centre hoped to raise the funds needed to build further memorial walls, which would take the numbers commemorated from 50,000 to more than 80, poppy installation was created by Lithuanian artist Darius Sirmulevicius, who now lives in Lincolnshire. Proceeds from the sale of the poppies will go to the IBCC, Wooden Spoon children's rugby charity, British West India Regiments Heritage Trust and the RAF Benevolent van der Drift said: "Buying a commemorative ceramic poppy is one way in which people can support our mission and make sure these brave men and women are remembered and honoured." Incredible Edinburgh moment iconic military Chinook helicopter's thunder over city

More info Edinburgh residents had their heads craned up towards the sky on Monday evening as they caught a glimpse of military helicopters. A group of Chinooks were spotted making their way across the city around 6.45pm on August 18. The choppers could be heard from a distance away as they flew over the south of the city. The footage was captured from the Royal Observatory near Blackford Hill during mostly clear skies which made ideal weather for people out and about to get a good look. The Chinook has been operational with the RAF for over 40 years and can carry up to 55 troops or up to about 10 tonnes of cargo. The RAF website states: "The Chinook is an extremely capable and highly versatile support helicopter that can be operated from land bases or ships into a diverse range of environments, from the Arctic to the desert or jungle. "The aircraft may be armed and is fitted with a suite of self-defence equipment allowing it to operate across the battlespace. Chinooks are primarily used for trooping, resupply and battlefield casualty evacuation (casevac)." It has not known whether or not the teams were on a mission or training exercise. The footage, which was captured at around 2.30pm on Monday August 18, showed the American made Boeing AH-64 Apache racing through the sky. Flightradar24, showed the aircrafts had taken off from RAF Leeming with the RAF helicopters destination not specified on the site. The British Army currently operates 50 AH-64E Apache attack helicopters with the last of the choppers delivered at the beginning of this year.
