Inter Milan have been keen to sign teenage defender Giovanni Leoni last summer. They had been in talks to sign the Italy Under-21 international from Sampdoria.
However, it was Parma who won the race for Leoni's signature.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed extremely impressive form since making the switch to the Emilian club.
Particularly over the second half of the campaign, Leoni's form stood out. He was a key player in Parma's success in the relegation battle under Cristian Chivu.

The Romanian had gotten the best out of the 18-year-old towards the end of last season. He made Leoni a defensive pillar in Parma's bid for Serie A survival.
Therefore, Inter are more convinced than ever that Leoni can make up the step up to playing in their defense.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are now in regular contact with Parma.
The Nerazzurri and the Gialloblu are getting more and more serious in attempts to negotiate a deal for Leoni.

Bologna Could Offer Ex Inter Milan Star As Part Of Deal For Fiorentina Winger – Inter Haven't Activated Buyback

Bologna Could Offer Ex Inter Milan Star As Part Of Deal For Fiorentina Winger – Inter Haven't Activated Buyback Bologna could offer Giovanni Fabbian to Fiorentina as part of a deal for winger Riccardo Sottil, with Inter Milan not having exercised their buyback. This according to today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement Bologna are preparing for the possibility of losing winger Dan Ndoye this summer. There is a fair bit of transfer interest in the Swiss international. Particularly from Napoli. And according to the Corriere dello Sport, Bologna's top target to replace Ndoye is Fiorentina's Riccardo Sottil. (Photo by) According to the Corriere dello Sport, the Rossoblu could make a player-plus-cash offer to convince Fiorentina. They could put midfielder Giovanni Fabbian on the table. Advertisement There is one particular hitch in the idea of offering Fabbian to Fiorentina, however. That is the fact that Inter Milan still have a buyback option on the 22-year-old. Inter sold Giovanni Fabbian to Bologna in the summer of 2023. They sold him outright, rather than just loaning him out. However, the Nerazzurri did insert a buyback option in the deal. They can sign Fabbian back this summer for a fee of €12 million. Nevertheless, the Corriere report, that option expires at the end of this month. And as of yet, Inter have given no indication that they intend to activate it.

AC Milan step up interest in ex-Arsenal midfielder

AC Milan are set to step up their interest in signing Granit Xhaka from Bayer Leverkusen. Xhaka is a transfer target for the Italian side as the club look to rebuild from a difficult campaign. Milan sold Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City earlier this month and are pushing to bring in Xhaka as a potential replacement. The ex-Arsenal midfielder has starred since leaving North London for Leverkusen in 2023. Xhaka was a key part of the Bayer Leverkusen team that won the Bundesliga title in 2023/24, the first German crown in the club's history. Advertisement Leverkusen became the first German team to win the title without losing a game. Xhaka's performances have been recognised with inclusion in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in consecutive campaigns. Last season, he scored twice and provided seven assists in the Bundesliga, while ranking second in the division for progressive passes. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Milan are now stepping up efforts to sign the 32-year-old. A formal proposal is set to be submitted for the Switzerland international, with contact between the clubs scheduled to take place next week. Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and former club FC Basel have also shown interest in the experienced midfielder. Advertisement Xhaka could become the latest big name to leave Leverkusen this summer. Head coach Xabi Alonso has taken charge at Real Madrid, while Jeremie Frimpong (Liverpool) and Jonathan Tah (Bayern Munich) have secured high-profile transfers. Leverkusen have also agreed the £116m club-record sale of Florian Wirtz to Liverpool.
