Cameron Young extends lead to 3 shots at Wyndham Championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Young capped off a bogey-free second round on Saturday morning for an 8-under 62, giving him a three-shot lead in the Wyndham Championship as the New York native goes for his first PGA Tour win and tries to get in the Ryder Cup conversation.
Young knocked in a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-3 16th when he returned to complete the storm-delayed second round at Sedgefield Country Club. He got up-and-down for par after driving into the rough on the 17th and closed with a par.
Young was at 15-under 125. He is widely considered the best player without a win on a major tour, having finished runner-up seven times, including a World Golf Championship and at the British Open at St. Andrews.
Defending champion Aaron Rai, who led Friday evening one shot behind, took double bogey on the 16th hole. He wound up four shots out of the lead.
Mac Meissner, Joel Dahmen and Sungjae Im were three shots behind.
The cut came at 3-under 137. This is the final tournament of the regular season that determines the 70 players who advance to the postseason. Among those who are left out of the lucrative FedEx Cup playoffs are Keith Mitchell, Max Homa and Sahith Theegala, who all missed the cut.
Homa and Theegala were on the U.S. team at the Presidents Cup just 10 months ago.
Danish twins Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard are still in the mix, but just barely. The cut was looking at 4-under par at one point. Both finished on 3 under and will now have 36 holes to play well enough to try to move into the top 70 — Nicolai is at No. 71, Rasmus at No. 82.
Adam Scott is No. 85 and made the cut with one shot to spare. The third round was scheduled for threesomes off both sides Saturday afternoon.

Katt Williams back in Memphis as part of broadcast team for FedExCup Playoffs event
Comedian Katt Williams will be back in Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Championship − only this time, he will be part of the PGA Tour Live broadcast team. Williams will serve as an on-course correspondent during the first and second rounds (Aug. 7-8) of the tournament, the first event of the 2025 FedExCup Playoffs, at TPC Southwind. "I'll be walking alongside the world's best players as part of the marquee group coverage live Thursday and Friday morning," the 53-year-old Williams said in a video posted by PGA Tour Live on its social media channels. It won't be the first time Williams has ventured onto the course at TPC Southwind for the event. He was also on hand in 2024, but he kept a somewhat low profile. A three-minute video montage of the popular funnyman providing his insight, analysis and reverence for the game was subsequently published on the PGA Tour's website. "This is why this is the No. 1 sport. It's the sport of gods, but it's played by mortals," the unabashed golf fan remarked at one point. This time around, Williams will be part of the broadcast team, joining ESPN analyst Michael Collins to provide real-time coverage, commentary and, almost certainly, some comedy during the PGA Tour Live stream on ESPN+. The tournament will also air on Peacock. It won't be Williams' first foray into sportscasting. In August 2024, he was part of the PGA Tour Live broadcast team during The Tour Championship. Williams is no stranger to Memphis nor the Mid-South. He routinely performs in the area, most recently in Feburary 2025 at FedExForum as part of his Heaven On Earth tour. At various points, Williams' regular presence in the region has fueled rumors that he actually maintains or maintained a residence of some kind in the Mid-South. Injuries to key players dampen excitement for WNBA's inaugural Rivals Week
NEW YORK (AP) — The WNBA hoped to create some buzz with its inaugural Rivals Week, which is slated to begin on Saturday. Unfortunately, injuries to key players like Napheesa Collier, Breanna Stewart, Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese has dampened some of the excitement. The week was set to tip-off with a primetime matchup between Clark's Fever and Reese's Sky on Saturday night. Clark is definitely out while still recovering from a groin strain that's sidelined her already for a few weeks. Reese has missed four of the past five games with a back injury. Collier and Stewart were set for a second meeting between Minnesota and New York on Sunday, but neither will play in the game. Collier is sidelined with a sprained right ankle and Stewart has a bone bruise in her right knee. The two teams played an epic WNBA Finals last season, although both sides have downplayed it being a rivalry just yet. 'It's a rivalry because of what happened in the Finals last year and I think it's good that it has people talking,' Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said. 'We have passionate fans. We have people talking about our league and that's a good thing.' Right now only four games separate second-place New York (18-10) from eighth place Golden State (14-14) with a month left in the season. 'The timing of that week is critical, because in August you start to really make that playoff push,' WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said back when the Rivals Week was announced. 'So it would be great to have those matchups during that period to drive that playoff push into September and crown a champion in October.' Power poll rankings Minnesota remained the No. 1 team in the poll with Atlanta and New York behind the Lynx. Riding a five-game winning streak, Indiana moved up to fourth. Phoenix and Seattle followed the Fever. Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Golden State were the next three. Washington, Dallas, Connecticut and Chicago rounded out the poll. It's the first time since Week 6 that the Sun aren't at the bottom of the poll. Ratings boon Las Vegas' blowout loss to Minnesota on Saturday drew an average viewership of 1.6 million fans, peaking at 2 million. As a whole, games on ABC are up 20% from the regular season last year on the network. Player of the week Collier of Minnesota was the AP player of the week after averaging 24 points, six rebounds and 3.5 assists to help the Lynx win both their games last week. Other players receiving votes included Allisha Gray of Atlanta, Natasha Howard of Indiana and Sabrina Ionescu of New York. Game of the week Minnesota at New York, Sunday. With Stewart and Collier both missing this game a little of the luster has come out of it. Still, it's a WNBA Finals rematch and there's definitely a little extra on this game.
