Whirlpool of India shares slip 2% post Q1 results; Should investors hold?

Shares of Whirlpool of India declined on Monday after the company reported a drop in revenue for the first quarter of the current financial year (Q1FY26). Further, analysts remain cautious due to the promoters' proposed stake sale and the lack of clarity on future leadership. The household appliances maker's stock fell as much as 2.32 per cent during the day to ₹1,366.6 per share, the biggest intraday fall since July 8 this year. The stock pared losses to trade 1.4 per cent lower at ₹1,379 apiece, compared to a 0.14 per cent decline in Nifty 50 as of 9:55 AM. Whirlpool of India Q1 results The company reported a marginal increase in its consolidated net profit to ₹146.08 crore for the June 2025 quarter. It had posted a net profit of ₹145.25 crore during the April-June quarter of the previous fiscal. US-based Whirlpool Corporation's India unit's revenue from operations slipped 2.58 per cent to ₹2,432.32 crore during the quarter under review. It was ₹2,496.86 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. "Despite a very significant decline in industry of air conditioners and refrigerators in Q1 2025-26 versus a year ago due to a poor summer and onset of early monsoon that affected all players, Whirlpool was able to actually grow profits by keeping its volume decline minimal via continuing to gain market shares in the refrigerator and washer category in April-May," the company said in its earning statement. Analysts on Whirlpool of India Q1 Centrum Broking expects the company to post a 13 per cent sales CAGR and a 170 basis points improvement in Ebitda margin over FY25-28, leading to a 25 per cent CAGR in profit after tax. Strong balance sheet, negative net working capital, and healthy cash flows are key strengths, Centrum noted. Notable achievements over the past six quarters include strong execution, market share gains, and an improving margin profile. However, the parent entity's proposed stake reduction from 51 per cent to 20 per cent is likely to remain a near-term overhang, it said, maintaining a 'Add' rating with a target of ₹1,525 for the stock. Whirlpool reported revenue short of Nuvama's estimates, due to a weak summer season and early monsoon, analysts said. While business and financial performance remain strong, the parent company's impending stake reduction and the resulting lack of visibility on new ownership remain key overhangs, Nuvama said. Nuvama has raised its FY26-28 EPS estimates by 1-3 per cent and expects revenue, Ebitda, and PAT to grow at compound annual rates of 8-13 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively. The brokerage revised the target price to ₹1,380 (earlier ₹1,340) and the rating was retained at 'Hold'.

India bonds may continue to see selling pressure at start of week

Indian government bonds are likely to see persistent selling pressure in early deals on Monday, as sentiment remains cautious after the benchmark bond yield rose above a key level in the previous session. ADVERTISEMENT The yield on the benchmark 10-year bond is likely to move between 6.33% and 6.37%, a trader at a private bank said, after closing at 6.3505% on Friday - the highest level since May 9. "Traders are losing interest and not building fresh positions, and hence we witnessed a large selloff after the debt auction on Friday," the trader said. The Reserve Bank of India sold 300 billion rupees ($3.47 billion) of the benchmark 2035 bond on Friday, the cutoff for which was in line with estimates, but the note witnessed selling pressure after the result was announced. Selling was exacerbated after the RBI governor's comments curbed expectations for rate easing, prompting those who were betting on an August cut to pare positions. ADVERTISEMENT Sanjay Malhotra said monetary policy, being forward-looking, will place greater focus on the outlook for growth and inflation, rather than their current levels, when the policy panel meets on August 6. Malhotra added that the bar for further easing is higher than it would have been if the stance was accommodative, though the RBI still has the flexibility to move the rates up, down or pause. ADVERTISEMENT A plunge in India's retail inflation to a more than six-year low and expectations that it will slip to a record low in July have led to increased talk of a rate cut in August. ADVERTISEMENT India's overnight index swap rates rose on Friday, as market participants trimmed rate cut bets for next week. The one-year OIS rate ended at 5.53% on Friday and the two-year OIS rate ended at 5.51%. The liquid five-year OIS rate settled at 5.73%. KEY INDICATORS: ** Benchmark Brent crude futures were 0.4% higher at $68.70 per barrel after easing 1.1% in the previous session ** Ten-year U.S. Treasury yield at 4.3938%; two-year yield at 3.9296% ($1 = 86.4750 Indian rupees). Tata Sons expects reprieve from IPO deadline amid RBI rule review

By P R Sanjai and Baiju Kalesh Tata Sons Pvt., the closely-held holding company of India's salt-to-software conglomerate, is not making any preparations for a near-term share sale as it believes the country's regulators will extend a deadline to take itself public, said people familiar with the matter. Following engagement with officials, the company's leaders expect it will receive official communication from the Reserve Bank of India granting extension for an initial share sale amid a nationwide review of rules governing entities that are not public-facing and do not require public funds, said the people, who asked not to be named discussing information that's sensitive. The RBI had earlier classified Tata Sons as a top tier non-banking lender, forcing it to list by September this year. While a listing would simplify the complicated holding structure of the Tata Group, taking the company public risks making it a target for takeover — something that Tata Sons directors hold the power to veto in its current form. A representative for the Tata Group declined to comment, while the RBI didn't immediately respond to an emailed query. However, any delay in a Tata Sons' initial public offering means the debt-laden Shapoorji Pallonji Group won't get an opportunity to sell any of the illiquid 18.37% it owns in the Tata holding firm. The 160-year-old conglomerate, which has been struggling with financial stress fueled by the Covid-19 pandemic, was looking to liquidate its stake in Tata Sons as a crucial step to pare debt. Tata Sons cleared all debt from its balance sheet to avoid inclusion in RBI's 2023 list of top Non-Banking Financial Companies. While the RBI hasn't yet announced a decision on Tata Sons' status, Governor Sanjay Malhotra last month hinted at a differential regulatory framework for entities like it. 'It is dynamic,' Malhotra had said. 'Policies have to change with the times and so it is only in that context that we are going to review some of these policies related to Type-I NBFCs.'
