Warning to drivers as brand new speed limit to be introduced to busy Scots road
Read on to find out if the road is near you SLOW DOWN Warning to drivers as brand new speed limit to be introduced to busy Scots road Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SCOTS council is looking to introduce a brand new speed limit on a busy stretch of road. A 40mph speed limit is being considered for the road in North Lanarkshire. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 A new 40mph speed limit has been proposed on the B806 Gartloch Road Credit: Google The council is proposing the restriction for the B806 Gartloch Road in Gartcosh. This would apply from a point around 380 metres west of the junction with the west kerb line of the A752 - to a point where the it meets the Glasgow City Council boundary. Full details of the draft Traffic Regulation Order, with a statement of reasons and plans, are available on the council's website. Anyone who wants to comment or raise objections must do so in writing by Wednesday, September 3. Submissions should be addressed to the Chief Officer (Legal and Democratic), North Lanarkshire Council, Civic Centre, Windmillhill Street, Motherwell, ML1 1AB. Representations can also be made by email to troconsultation@ All submissions must include the name and address of the person making the comment or objection. They also have to include the matters to which they relate and the grounds on which they are made. Earlier this year, a new camera was installed on a Lanarkshire road after locals raised concerns over the number of incidents on the busy stretch. It was enforced after police recorded nearly 300 incidents, including 81 accidents, on the Shawhead flyover near Coatbridge in the past four years. Just days until August 1 'left lane' law will throw drivers in PRISON for 'driving just one mph under the speed limit' The notorious junction takes drivers from Coatbridge to the M8 and A8, and continues onto the Bellshill bypass with roads leading to the M74. Fearful residents have spent years pleading for something to be done to improve safety on the road. We previously told how drivers on a stretch of Scotland's longest road have been hit by fines totalling almost £7million in three years. Stats show 66,908 penalties were dished out to motorists for breaking speed limits on the A9 between Dunblane, Perthshire, and Inverness between 2022-24. And with the minimum punishment being £100 and three points on a driving licence, it means at least £6,690,800 has been raked in.
