Lil Durk Claims 'Government Presented False Evidence' In Murder-for-Hire Case

Yahoo30-04-2025

A statement was released to Lil Durk's Instagram as the rapper remains behind bars pending trial for murder-for-hire. In a social media post, the message claimed that the 'government presented false evidence' to secure an indictment against the Chicago musician.
'The recent developments in Durk's legal case have brought a harsh truth to light: the government presented false evidence to a grand jury to indict him,' explained the video. 'This isn't justice. That's a violation of the very system that's supposed to protect all of us.'
The statement continued to detail, 'Durk has always used music to tell stories, to express pain to heal—and yet those same lyrics are now being used against him,' adding, 'We refuse to stay silent as Black artists continue to be criminalized for their creativity. Rap is art.'
In the end, the memo pleaded with the rapper's followers and asked, 'As a family, we are asking the public, the fans, and the culture to stand with us. Stand for truth. Stand for fairness. Stand for The Voice.'
Lil Durk, legal name Devontay Durk Banks, was arrested in October 2024 and the following month he was officially charged with 'one count of conspiracy, one count of use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and one count of using, carrying, and discharging firearms and a machine gun and possession of such firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death.'
In December 2024, the Grammy winner was denied bond as he pleaded not guilty to the federal charges.
Earlier this year, the rapper's legal team claimed prosecutors provided the grand jury with 'false evidence,' and filed to have the indictment dismissed.
'The government told the grand jury that Mr. Banks, through specific lyrics in his music, celebrated and profited from a revenge murder that he had ordered,' explained lawyer Drew Findling in the filing. 'That claim is demonstrably false,' he continued, noting that the song 'Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy,' a collaboration with Detroit rapper Babyface Ray, was 'written 'seven months before the incident even happened.'
Earlier this week, the 'Backdoor' rapper called Akademiks from behind bars with an update for fans.
'I've been good, man. Mentally, spiritually, I been on top of my sh*t,' exclaimed the 32-year-old. 'I'll be back out there, you hear me?' adding 'Thank you—I need all the prayers. I appreciate you.'
He continued, 'Ain't nothing changed, bro. I've just been focused on life, my family. I'm trying to learn Arabic in here…A couple guys in here that know how to speak Arabic fluently, so I've been picking up words, just tightening up my Arabic. Just building knowledge.'

‘Wicked' Star Cynthia Erivo Fires Back at MAGA Hate for Playing Jesus

Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has some thoughts about the MAGA outrage—fueled by Elon Musk—over her casting as Christ in the Hollywood Bowl's production of Jesus Christ Superstar. 'You can't please everyone,' the Tony, Grammy, and Emmy-winner told Billboard in a new interview. 'It is legitimately a three-day performance at the Hollywood Bowl where I get to sing my face off. So hopefully they will come and realize, 'Oh, it's a musical, the gayest place on Earth.'' The show will run August 1-3. Many MAGA fans slammed Erivo's Christ casting as 'blasphemy' on social media when her role was first announced in February. What seemed lost on several critics was the tone of the show itself. The 1971 Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera has always been a provocative, at-times critical take on Christ's life, that over time became a cult favorite among queer audiences. Musk seemed to have missed that bit of information as well as he chimed in on X with an eyebrow-raised emoji in reply to an X user who wrote, 'Imagine doing this to any other religion' next to Erivo's casting news. Critics with similar complaints flooded Variety's social media post announcing the casting with one user in the replies called Erivo playing Christ 'anti-Christian bigotry' by 'Hollywood.' But Erivo told Billboard, 'Why not?' as she shrugged off naysayers. 'The more yourself you are, the more you are in front of people who don't necessarily understand, the better understanding starts to happen,' she said. As much as she wants to be 'a person you can get positive things from' since 'that is the only way you can balance this stuff,' she couldn't help getting in a jab at Donald Trump for his takeover of the Kennedy Center, where Erivo played some of the most iconic performances of her career. 'I don't know who gains what from that. I hope that it comes back,' she said. 'It's really sad to have to watch this happen to it. The Kennedy Center is supposed to be a space of creativity and art and music for everyone.' That said, assimilating to appease Trump and his 'anti-woke' mob isn't on the star's to-do list, she added. 'I want to encourage people to not decide to just tuck away and start hiding and not being themselves anymore,' she said, 'because that is exactly what they want.'

Community activists demand more accountability after deadly Saenger Theatre shooting

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Community activists in Mobile are demanding more accountability and change after a man was killed in a shooting inside the Saenger Theatre. 7-year-old paddleboarder found safe after being reported missing in Okaloosa County A fun Sunday evening turned into tragedy after gunshots rang out during a children's dance recital. Mobile Police Department Sgt. John Young also runs a nonprofit organization, Men United Against Violence. The group's objective is to stop young men from continuing the cycle of gun violence. 'This brute beast went to this dance recital knowing children were there,' Young explained. 'He intentionally carried a gun, and he intentionally shot someone in front of those children. That is the issue we're dealing with. This subculture of gun violence involving young Black men in Mobile is the issue.' Young said he is tired of seeing Black men take the lives of other Black men, and staying silent is not an option. 'What is the value in not saying it?' Young questioned. 'What is the political correctness in not saying 'Black man, stop killing Black man.' And if I, as a Black man, can't say it, who can?' Stewart Memorial CME Church Pastor Marvin Lue said it's important to keep praying when navigating another act of gun violence in the community. 'When we pray, pray for peace, pray for calm, pray for common sense to step in in these conflict resolution situations,' he elaborated. Members of his congregation were inside the theater that night and left traumatized. 'They were literally in the crossfire of this senseless act, that it could have been worse than it was, that there is a fear of going outside,' he further explained. Both Young and Lue agreed that prayer can be part of the solution, but the first step is to hold people accountable. 'We have to have some sense of accountability,' Lue said. 'But it begins with us. It begins with us. I can't be the one throwing rocks and hide my hand.' 'Grow up. Life has been hard for many people for many years,' Young concluded. Honduran man accused of crashing into barricade at Naval Air Station Pensacola In addition to accountability, Young and Pastor Lue said community leadership and strong family support are key to stopping this cycle. Sydney Sweeney's New Soap Collab Includes a Unique Ingredient: Her Actual Bathwater.

Sydney Sweeney's New Soap Collab Includes a Unique Ingredient: Her Actual Bathwater. originally appeared on L.A. Mag. Sydney Sweeney is collaborating with men's soap company Dr. Squatch Soap Co. for a limited edition soap made with a special and highly requested ingredient: her own bath is the face of the new bar 'Sydney's Bathwater Bliss,' a soap described by Dr. Squatch as a "perfect combination of the two best places on the planet: The outdoors and Sydney Sweeney's bathtub." With notes of pine, Douglas fir, earthy moss, and a touch of Sydney Sweeney Bathwater–actually listed in the ingredients–the soap will be available starting at 12pm on June 6, selling only 5,000 units at $8 a bar. 'You kept asking about my bathwater after the @drsquatch ad… so we kept it,' Sweeney wrote on an Instagram post referencing a past advertisement she had done with Dr. Squatch. 'Introducing Sydney's Bathwater Bliss! A very real, very limited-edition soap made with my actual bathwater.' Dr. Squatch also shared some of their many fan mail requests for extra Sweeney bathwater on Instagram, including requests to use the bathwater to water bonsai trees, for eye drops, and to review the taste. 'When your fans start asking for your bathwater, you can either ignore it, or turn it into a bar of Dr. Squatch soap,' Sweeney said in an NBC release. 'We thrive on ideas that make you laugh,' said John Ludeke, the senior vice president of global marketing for Dr. Squatch, in a company news release. He hopes that the soap can be seen in a positive light, with increased conversations about male hygiene and cleanliness. There is a lot of disbelief surrounding the product. Reactions on social media are skewed, with some users criticizing Sweeney's hypocrisy in terms of her being sexualized by men, and other users supporting the product's ability to get men to shower. Despite the controversy, Sweeney is calling the soap 'weird in the best way' and an 'unforgettable' product. The irony of the product is evident: men who are grossly begging for Sweeney's bathwater definitely need to be cleaned. This story was originally reported by L.A. Mag on Jun 2, 2025, where it first appeared.
