Taylor Swift announces new album called The Life of a Showgirl, Entertainment News

AsiaOnea day ago
Superstar Taylor Swift on Tuesday (Aug 12) announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl.
Swift, who has won 14 Grammys including an unprecedented four trophies for album of the year, announced the album in a podcast episode with her boyfriend and US football star Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce.
"This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl," Swift said while holding a blurred-out version of the album cover, in a clip of the New Heights podcast on Instagram. The full podcast episode is set to release at 7pm local time.
Swift's website said the official release date of the album would be announced later.
The vinyl version of the album is available for pre-order on Swift's website at US$30 (S$38.59). The cassette version costs US$20, and a CD with a poster of Swift is available for US$13.
The megastar, whose record-breaking Eras tour was the first to surpass US$1 billion in revenue, announced the album after she purchased the master recordings of her first six albums in May, giving her control of all of her music after a dispute with her former record label.
Swift's last album The Tortured Poets Department sold 2.61 million albums and streaming units during its first week of release in the US, with Billboard scoring it the largest streaming week for an album ever and the largest sales week for an album on vinyl in the modern era.
Spotify said Poets was its most-streamed album in a single week, surpassing one billion streams.
She is among several of music's top artists releasing albums recently. Fellow pop artist Sabrina Carpenter will release album Man's Best Friend in August, while singer Ed Sheeran is releasing an album in September.
Swift, 35, has been setting music industry milestones and boosting local economies with The Eras Tour, a phenomenon that some economists have termed "Swiftflation."
The term is used to describe how her massively popular tour has created temporary surges in local prices — particularly in sectors like hotels, dining, travel, and entertainment.

Jacelyn Tay gifts her Star Awards trophies to long-time fan, Entertainment News

Former Mediacorp actress Jacelyn Tay took to Instagram today (Aug 13) to share that she has gifted two of her Star Awards trophies to a long-time fan. In the accompanying Reel, the 50-year-old said: "I gifted these to one of my fans who made plastic versions in 1998 and 1999 when I won my first Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes and the Most Popular Female Artiste in Taiwan awards. He had them spray-painted and gold-chromed by professionals, which cost him a bomb. He was just a student. "For 26 years with the gold chrome worn off, he still kept them. This September marks his 40th birthday. He reached out to me on Instagram and I thought, 'Such love needs to be honoured.' Life is beautiful only when we truly love." She attached an image of the fan's replica trophies atop various old magazines featuring Jacelyn on their covers. In her post's caption, Jacelyn also mentioned that she now adopts a minimalist approach in life, now "valuing things more" and seeking to "bring eternity in them". She said: "And the only eternity is love and memories. For the next decades of my life, I seek to build these two. My trophies are my past glory. I cherish them, hence I share them with fans who cherish them, maybe more than I do. I still carry the title I earned, with or without the trophies. Now, they are refreshed because they are in the good hands of another being who loves them too. Isn't it beautiful?" Jacelyn's showbiz career was kickstarted when she was crowned the female champion of Star Search 1995. Some of her iconic roles include He Xiangu in Legend of the Eight Immortals (1998) and Dongfang Bubai in The Legendary Swordsman (2000). She left Mediacorp in 2006, though she acted in several dramas in subsequent years. She is currently a certified professional holistic wellness coach, who founded Body Inc in 2006. Robot dog in Mexico teaches animal kindness on the streets

[MONTERREY, Mexico] He walks, he talks, he runs and he plays. He's 'Waldog', an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered robot that is making the rounds in the northern city of Monterrey, Mexico, to raise awareness about animal abuse and welfare. With a metallic, friendly voice, Waldog is about the size of a beagle and initiates conversations with children and adults about animal rights. 'Hi, I'm Waldog, and I'm here to give a voice to those who don't have one, the animals who live on the streets,' he told one group of laughing residents in the low-income neighbourhood of Santa Catarina in Monterrey on Aug 8. Waldog told them his job is to 'raise awareness' about animal treatment. Federal Senator Waldo Fernandez of Monterrey said that he paid US$4,084 for Waldog with his own money and named the pet after himself. Waldog needs adult accompaniment and is operated by a remote control. Fernandez, a self-professed animal activist, said that Waldog seeks to encourage kindness and responsibility towards animals and humans alike. But it will also serve a practical purpose, Fernandez said in an Instagram post: Waldog will flag trash on the street, potholes and register fellow street dogs. Robot dogs have also been used in search and rescue missions following natural disasters. US authorities are also working on developing robot dogs for patrol along the US-Mexico border. For now, Fernandez said that Waldog has a full agenda: It will visit schools, plazas and neighbourhoods across Monterrey's metro area, in addition to posing for lots of selfies. REUTERS
