Springfield Fire Dept., Crime Stoppers looking for tips in arson case
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers is assisting the Springfield Fire Department in an arson investigation, and they are asking for help from the public in solving the case.
Officials said the fire happened on Monday around 3 a.m. at Butternut Hut in downtown Springfield. A suspect was recorded on video breaking a window to the business and throwing something inside that was already on fire. When the object landed, it burst and the fire started to expand.

At the time of the crime, people were living in the apartments above the business. Officials did not say if there were any injuries.
The suspect was recorded wearing dark clothing and carrying a tan bag on their back.
Anyone with knowledge of the suspect's identity is asked to submit a tip to Crime Stoppers by calling 217-788-8427, visiting their website or using the P3 Tips app. All tips to Crime Stoppers are both anonymous and eligible for a cash reward should an arrest be made.

One man dead, another hurt in double shooting on Detroit's east side
Detroit police are investigating after one man died and another was hurt Tuesday night in a double shooting. Police say that just before 10:30 p.m., they received a Shotspotter alert at Coram Street and Rex Avenue. Gwinnett police seek suspect in Norcross shooting
Detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect they say was involved in a Norcross shooting back in April. Authorities say a suspect fired multiple shots at a blue Hyundai Elantra at about 1 p.m. April 10. The Elantra was leaving the area of 5615 Singleton Road. Sangamon, Menard Co. Crime Stoppers seeking tips in theft at Springfield church
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Crime Stoppers of Sangamon and Menard Counties are looking for tips from the public to identify an individual who stole cash from a church and caused thousands of dollars in damage. The theft happened around 10 p.m. on April 2 in the First Church of God, located at 2800 Adlai Stevenson Drive in Springfield. Officials said an unknown white male suspect forced his way into the church. Multiple vehicles burglarized in Mahomet; suspect arrested Once inside, he took money from a cash box and damaged the church. Now, Springfield Police is hoping the public will help them identify him. According to Crime Stoppers, he was wearing light colored clothing, dark colored shoes and was carrying a dark colored drawstring bag.
