Family donates trader's eyes, body to MKCG

Berhampur: Family members of an 82-year-old trader in Berhampur donated his body and eyes to the govt-run MKCG Medical College and Hospital following his death due to age-related ailments, early on Friday.
The body of E Bala Krishna was handed over to the medical college authorities by E Sruti and E Srinivash, his daughter and son-in-law, in the presence of his relatives and campaigners of
organ donation
.
The deceased was a member of Humanist Rationalist Organization (HRO), Berhampur, which campaigns for organ donations. "Krishna had also pledged to donate his body for research purposes to the medical college," said J Suresh, one of the campaigners.
"As per his wish, we decided to donate his eyes and body to the medical college. Amid the grief, we felt proud as my father's body will be utilised for medical studies," said Sruti.
The body will help medical students in their studies, said Sagar Prusty, professor, anatomy. "The body would be embalmed to prevent it from decomposition," he said. This was the third body donation in the medical college in the last 15 days, and the seventh since Jan this year, said Prusty.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Gujarat State Branch, has written to Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, appealing for financial assistance for medical students from BJ Medical College who were injured or killed in the Ahmedabad plane crash. In a letter sent on Saturday, the association welcomed Air India's announcement of Rs 1 crore compensation for the families of deceased passengers and acknowledged Tata Sons' contribution to the renovation of the BJMC hostel. However, it called for similar support for the students who were present at the crash site. "We humbly request you to consider extending financial assistance and necessary support to the medical students present at the crash site who were injured or lost their lives in this unfortunate event," the letter read. The IMA noted that some students had sustained serious injuries, while others had died in the tragedy. It described them as "not just victims, but also future doctors who will serve our country's healthcare system". Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the association urged Tata Sons to announce support at the earliest, in line with what has been offered to the families of passengers. The crash occurred on Thursday afternoon, when an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The dream transition from Rajasthan's Udaipur to new beginnings in London came to a tragic end after Dr Prateek Joshi, his pathologist-wife Dr Komi Vyas and their children - daughter Miraya, 8, and five-year-old twin sons Pradyut and Nakul - died in the crash Thursday. On Friday, Kolar college's doctors, medical staff, and students paid floral tributes to Dr Joshi and observed a minute's silence to honour the victims of the air crash. Dr Sarala, professor and head of pharmacology and director of academics, recalled he was a dedicated and inquisitive. "He was passionate about serving humanity and always eager to understand even the minutest aspects of medicine that contribute to a patient's healing," she said. Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 14 (ANI): Indian Medical Association's Gujarat President Mehul Shah said that four medical students and a doctor's wife died after the Air India flight AI 171 crashed into a doctor's hostel near Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday. He also mentioned that over 100 doctors reached the site of the crash to assist anyone with injuries, and support the hospital campus and state government. According to Shah, over 45 medical students in the hostel area have been saved. 'More than 100 doctors have reached the hospital campus to support the government. Unfortunately, we have lost four medical students and a doctor's wife. But fortunately, we have saved more than 45 medical students in the hostel area,' the Gujarat IMA President said here. The IMA is also in touch with officials, including CM Bhupendra Patel, the Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi, Health Secretary Dhananjay Dwivedi and the local hospital staff to work in tandem in the wake of the tragic incident. A formal investigation has been launched by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) into the deadly crash of Air India flight 171 that killed 241 people onboard, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu confirmed on Thursday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered enhanced safety inspections on Air India's Boeing 787-8/9 fleet following the incident. (ANI)
