TH, MAHB conduct evacuation drill at KLIA for Haj preparations

The Sun27-04-2025

SEPANG: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), in collaboration with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), carried out an evacuation simulation at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today to ensure smooth operations for this year's Haj pilgrimage.
The exercise, involving 200 participants including TH staff, MAHB personnel, as well as security and medical teams from KLIA, aimed to prepare Haj pilgrims for potential emergencies or unforeseen incidents.
TH Domestic Haj Operations (OHTA) deputy director Mohamed Ameen Abdul Wahab said the simulation was critical to ensuring that standard operating procedures and evacuation protocols are followed efficiently in the event of an emergency, particularly when pilgrims are gathered at KLIA before their departure.
'This training is part of the preparation for Haj staff, especially ahead of the first flight on April 29, which will carry 284 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia,' he said.
Mohamed Ameen said the exercise also ensures readiness for emergencies, such as fires, natural disasters and crises, involving TH staff, MAHB personnel and other agencies.
The drill followed the OHTA Emergency Action Plan and Aerodrome Emergency Plan (AEP), which outline emergency management protocols, involving KLIA's operational units, government agencies and airlines.
TH also announced that similar evacuations will be held at other state Haj departure stations, including Sultan Mahmud International Airport in Kuala Terengganu, Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Bharu and Senai International Airport in Kulai.
The final flight of Malaysian Haj pilgrims is scheduled for June 1, with the Day of Arafah expected to take place on Thursday, June 5.

Since then, the artist has achieved multiple milestones, including becoming a mentor on the singing contest, 'Chuang Asia: Thailand'. The 30-year-old kicked off his 'Red Giant' tour with a two-day performance in early May at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, and will soon take the show to countries across Latin America and Asia. Kenyans dominate jungle race

Winners and participants at the close of the 2025 Kemuyang Nature Challenge. TWO Kenyan athletes claimed top honours at the 2025 Kemuyang Nature Challenge in Sibu, Sarawak where 300 runners participated. Samson Kamal, 29, dominated the 9km Men's Open category, finishing in 47:40. His compatriot Kabui Teresial, 22, won the 9km Women's Open category, completing the race in 51:50. They each received RM2,000 in prize money for their achievements. A delighted Samson shared that the prize money was timely. 'We'll be using it to purchase our flight tickets home from Kuala Lumpur. 'A one-way ticket costs around RM2,000 each,' said Samson, who recently graduated with a degree in Business Economics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Kabui, who pursued the same course, also graduated from UKM. (Below) Kabui (left) and Samson showing their prizes in Sibu. Reflecting on the race, Kabui described it as 'tough', adding she had to give her all. Samson said he enjoyed the event and praised the trail. 'This is our first time winning a jungle trekking event in Malaysia. 'We learnt about the competition from a Malaysian friend in Sandakan,' he said. Samson added that both he and Kabui are marathon runners and will undergo intensive training at home before entering their next race. Meanwhile, local runners Lim Siet Fah and Teo Lian Geok expressed disappointment over their performance, citing changes in the format. 'In the previous competition in December 2023, it was primarily jungle trekking. 'This time, it was 50% road running and 50% jungle trekking. 'My strength lies in jungle trekking, so it put me at a disadvantage,' said Lim, a vocational school teacher from Kuching. Teo echoed Lim's sentiments. Lim, the 2023 Women's Open category champion, finished third this time. Teo secured second place in the 7km Women's Veteran category. In the Men's Open category, second place went to Belfon Mosolan (RM1,500) and third to Saidi Suni (RM1,000). For the Women's Open, second place was claimed by Luk Teck Bing (RM1,500) with Lim Siet Fah in third (RM1,000). Winners of the 7km Men's Veteran category were Hardy Suntol (RM1,000), Chu Chat Shan (RM700) and Lee Kok Eng (RM500), while in the 7km Women's Veteran category, the top three were Lim Set Hiang (RM1,000), Teo Lian Geok (RM700) and Lee Leh Ha (RM500). Sarawal Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Ministry representative Zulkanain Ismail presented the prizes.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin overcome nervy start to advance into second round at Indonesian Open

PETALING JAYA: World No. 1 men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin had a nervy start before pulling through in the opening round of the Indonesian Open at Istora Senayan in Jakarta on Tuesday (June 3). Having just beaten Taiwan's Lee Fang-chih-Lee Fang-jen at the Singapore Open last week, Sze Fei-Izzuddin were expected to cruise past the same pair. But the Malaysian duo found themselves in trouble after dropping the first game. Fortunately, they regrouped in the second game to force a decider and went on to seal a 17-21, 21-17, 21-14 win in 58 minutes. Sze Fei-Izzuddin will face fellow Malaysians Tan Wee Kiong-Nur Azriyn Ayub in the second round. Wee Kiong-Azriyn enjoyed a smoother outing as they brushed aside China's Xie Haonan-Zeng Weihan 21-17, 21-12. Earlier, last year's finalists Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun made a strong start to their campaign with a convincing 21-6, 21-11 win over the United States' Chen Zhi Yi and Presley Smith to move into the second round. The seventh seeds will next take on compatriots Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi, who advanced after receiving a walkover from France's Eloi Adam-Leo Rossi.
