Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ghana's Accra on Wednesday, marking the first visit by an Indian PM to the African country in over 30 years. The Indian Prime Minister was personally received by President John Mahama, who presented him with a ceremonial guard of honour. Later, PM Modi held a delegation-level meeting with President Mahama at Jubilee House in Accra.
PM Modi's visit was steeped in symbolism, powerful quotes, and warm gestures that underscored the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. "Our bilateral trade has crossed USD 3 billion. Indian companies have invested 2 billion dollars in around 900 projects. We have decided to double our trade within the next 5 years. In the area of FinTech, Bharat UPI will share the digital payment experience with Ghana," PM Modi said.

After 'good' trials, roads min junks L1 bidding mode
NEW DELHI: In a major policy change, all highway agencies under the road transport ministry, including the NHAI, will soon replace the least cost (L1) mode for bidding out works for preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) with highest technical score (T1) for companies. The agencies will fix cost for consultancy service (bid price) and companies will be selected on the basis of their technical competence and ratings based on their past performance. Officials said the experiment of only fixed cost and highest technical score for bidding out works in the NHAI has been "good" so far, since its introduction in Sept last year. TOI on Sept 8 had first reported this crucial change in bidding parameters. "The new provision of rating of bidders and assigning 30% marks for technical score will further bring quality players to bid for projects," said a senior official. The policy change gains importance considering that there has been major deterioration in preparation of project reports after consultancy firms bagged projects quoting very low and unsustainable prices. Officials admitted that there have been several cases where the prices quoted for preparing DPRs was as low as Rs 70,000-Rs 80,000 per km. "At such a low cost, no one can prepare a good DPR. Field surveys cost more than such quoted price. That was the trigger for fixing the cost, which approximately comes to Rs 4-5 lakh for one km of 4-6 lane highway. This is barely 0.5% of the overall project cost. In most other countries the payment made for DPR preparation is around 10% of project cost," an official said. He added that provisions have been made where companies that have key personnel from top 50 reputed technical institutes, such as IITs and NITs, will get a better score. "So, the entire framework of technical score, including the marks for ratings, is aimed at getting serious and quality players to bid for DRP works,"an NHAI official said.

Shapoorji Pallonji Group unit eyes $300 million share-backed loan, sources say
Shapoorji Pallonji and Co., the construction arm of conglomerate Shapoorji Pallonji Group, is in talks with bankers to raise around $300 million to refinance existing debt, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday (July 4, 2025). The company may look to raise the funds in Indian rupees, and the loan would be backed by shares of Afcons Infrastructure , along with some other real estate assets, the sources added. Two of the sources further added that the debt to refinanced is owed to HDFC Bank, while it will look to avail the loan at around 15%, but the details are yet to be finalised. The company did not immediately reply to a Reuters email seeking comment. According to ICRA, the company had taken a term loan of around 22.50 billion rupees ($263.14 million) from HDFC Bank in March 2022.

PM Modi arrives in Trinidad and Tobago on two-day visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on Thursday (July 3, 2025) on the second leg of his five-nation tour, during which he will hold talks with the top leadership of Trinidad and Tobago to further strengthen the bilateral relationship.
