"India would have won more medals." Babita Phogat on Wrestling not a part of Commonwealth Games 2026
She highlighted the challenges faced, particularly for women wrestlers, and emphasised the potential for India to win more medals if wrestling were included.
While speaking to ANI, Babita Phogat said, 'I have been a three-time Commonwealth medalist, and I feel very sad because it was very difficult for us, especially for women's wrestling. We had a chance in 2010, and we have played continuously since then, up until 2018-2022. It is a sad thing that there is no wrestling in the Commonwealth. If there was wrestling, our country would have won more medals.'
In a massive blow to India's medal chances, cricket, field hockey, badminton, wrestling, among others, have been dropped from the programme for the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, which will be held from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
The sporting event's return to the Scottish city after a 12-year absence would not be as bright for the Indians, as some of their best medal-scoring sports have been removed from the schedule. The CWG 2026 will feature only 10 sports across four venues placed within an eight-mile corridor.
The 10-sport itinerary for Glasgow 2026 includes athletics (track and field), swimming, 3x3 basketball, track cycling, weightlifting, lawn bowls, artistic gymnastics, netball, boxing and judo. The para variants of the first five will be part of the integrated para programme at the 2026 CWG.
Four venues will host the game, including Scotstoun Stadium, Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Emirates Arena (which features the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome), and the Scottish Event Campus (SEC).
The list of sports for the 2026 CWG is way thinner than the 2022 edition in Birmingham, which had 20 sports. (ANI)

Double Olympic-medallist Manu Bhaker had won in the women's 10m air pistol competition on Tuesday. Manu (583) also won a team bronze in women's air pistol alongside reigning Asian Games champ Palak (573) and Suruchi Phogat (574), both of whom missed out on the individual final by three and two points, respectively. Since Monday India has won an individual bronze and a team silver and a team bronze, in the 10m air pistol events across both the senior men and women categories. Overall, India has won six gold, five silver and three bronze medals from all competitions held so far. The Indian senior shooting squad for the Asian competition comprises 35 members competing for medals in 15 events. A total of 129 Indian shooters are also competing in the junior events.

England set to tour Sri Lanka before T20 World Cup 2026
London [UK], August 20 (ANI): England is set to visit Sri Lanka, the co-host of next year's T20 World Cup, for a white-ball tour, in the buildup to the marquee event. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) released a statement on Wednesday to announce that the Three Lions will contest in three ODIs and as many T20Is from January 22 to February 3, next year. In the last edition of the T20 World Cup, England endured a heartbreak in the semi-finals against India, who eventually went on to lift the title. 'England Men will tour Sri Lanka for two white-ball series ahead of the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in early 2026," the ECB said in a statement. The tour will begin with three ODIs on January 22 and will conclude on January 27. The ODI action will be followed by the T20Is from January 30 and will run till February 3. As of now, the venues of the six white-ball fixtures have yet to be confirmed by Sri Lanka Cricket. England will reap massive benefits from playing in the sub-continent, considering the T20 World Cup will be hosted in India and Sri Lanka. Under the refined leadership of Harry Brook, a rejuvenated England white-ball side will tussle for their third crown, having won it in 2009 and 2022. The next year's tour of Sri Lanka will be England's first in over seven years. In their past exploits, England trounced the Lions to stand triumphant in the ODI leg in 2018.
