KITE launches online AI training for Lakshadweep teachers
The training module is an updated version of the AI programme previously conducted by KITE for 80,000 teachers in Kerala. It utilises the same online training platform that was made available to the public under the name 'AI Essentials.'
The first phase of this training involves all 110 postgraduate teachers in the Lakshadweep islands. They are divided into five batches. The programme will be completed in one month, with one mentor assigned for around 20 teachers. There will be one contact class every week.
The course content is structured into five distinct sections. The first section 'AI at Your Fingertips' introduces practical applications of AI while covering its history, development, and future possibilities. The second section 'AI Art Gallery' focusses on using AI to create and enhance images, design logos and posters, and even build 3D models.
'Mastering AI' offers hands-on training in prompt engineering and use of AI for reading and data analysis. The fourth section 'AI in Everyday Life' provides practical training on how to use AI in areas such as music, coding, video production, and learning. The final section concludes the training by providing an understanding of how to use AI responsibly and familiarizing participants with the technical terms used in the field.
KITE Chief Executive Officer K. Anvar Sadath said the organisation would provide training, including in the field of robotics, to all the teachers.
Robotics has been incorporated into the revised Class 10 ICT textbooks, which are used in the islands since they follow the Kerala curriculum. To facilitate this, KITE will provide robotics kits to schools. The robotics training for teachers will be held later.
Lakshadweep's Director of Education Padmar Ram Tripathi, senior administrative officer E. Raveendranathan, and K.K. Shanawas of the Academic Section spoke at the training launch on Saturday.
The remaining teachers in the islands will be given training in the second phase of the programme.
IT trainings have been held for Lakshadweep teachers earlier too at the Ernakulam regional resource centre.

UP assembly holds AI training session for MLAs
Ahead of the monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly commencing on Monday, a training session on artificial intelligence (AI) was held for the MLAs on Sunday. Experts from IIT-Kanpur conducted the session chaired by assembly speaker Satish Mahana. Over 200 legislators attended the session. An Ai training session for legislators underway at the UP legislative assembly in Lucknow on August 10. (HT photo) 'This is the first phase where we are introducing AI for the legislators. We have also started AI enabled cameras which will help in many aspects. For example, one can get to know what all a member has spoken in a period of five years within seconds with the help of AI-enabled cameras,' Mahana said. 'This is not a step of just monitoring, but many other aspects of information are also associated with it,' he added. The session was divided into two parts where first was to introduce AI to the MLAs while in the second part, they were explained about real life application of AI. However, MLAs raised doubts too. 'AI can judge your objective. Hence AI would not be able to do analysis of the data it is taking and the objective with which that data was made. Will AI be able to differentiate between genuine data from the fabricated one? And what about data safety,' asked Sirathu MLA Pallavi Patel. Aradhana Mishra, Congress legislature party leader, said, 'More than introducing AI, the legislators need to be told how to connect dots between their working needs and the AI.' 'Introducing AI is a welcome step but a debate makes it better for the assembly,' said leader of the opposition Mata Prasad Pandey. Kaimganj MLA Surabhi Singh said, 'Can AI cater to the sentiments of our voters? This is significant as an MLA has to connect directly with voters.' 'What if the data available from sources such as the internet is incorrect. Should we first focus on correct data,' asked another member in the house. The experts from IIT-K answered their queries. Special session to discuss UP's 'Vision 2047': Mahana The 24-hours special session to be conducted from August 13 to 14 will have a discussion on UP's 'Vision 2047', said the Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly speaker Satish Mahana on Sunday. The session will start at 11 am on August 13. This is the second such session after 2019. The special session will have primary debate that will be taken before the public and then tables in the assembly. 'In three-and-a-half years, sessions have been conducted smoothly and have witnessed increased participation of the members during debate and discussions. The fact is only twice the session had to be adjourned in the past three-and-a-half years. This successful conduct had a positive role of the opposition too,' Mahana added. Asked about the demand from the opposition regarding increasing days of session for debate, he said, 'The days are not less for debate. The monsoon sessions in the past have been conducted similarly.'

OpenAI bans ChatGPT from answering breakup questions; Sam Altman calls the new update 'annoying'
OpenAI is adjusting ChatGPT's approach to sensitive emotional queries, shifting from direct advice to facilitating user self-reflection. This change addresses concerns about AI's impact on mental well-being and aims to provide more thoughtful support. OpenAI is consulting experts and implementing safeguards like screen-time reminders and distress detection to ensure responsible AI interaction. Nowadays, many of us have turned AI platforms into a quick guidance source for everything from code to personal advice. But as artificial intelligence becomes a greater part of our emotional lives, companies are becoming aware of the risks of over-reliance on it. But can a chatbot truly understand matters of the heart and emotions? With growing concerns about how AI might affect mental well‑being, OpenAI is making a thoughtful shift in how ChatGPT handles sensitive personal topics. Rather than giving direct solutions to tough emotional questions, the AI will now help users reflect on their feelings and come to their own conclusions. OpenAI has come up with significant changes OpenAI has announced a significant change to how ChatGPT handles relationship questions. Instead of offering direct answers like 'Yes, break up,' the AI will now help users think through their dilemmas by giving self-reflection and weighing pros and cons, particularly for high-stakes personal issues. This comes as there have been several issues over AI getting too direct in emotionally sensitive areas. According to reports from The Guardian, OpenAI stated, 'When you ask something like: 'Should I break up with my boyfriend?' ChatGPT shouldn't give you an answer. It should help you think it through—asking questions, weighing pros and cons.' The company has also said that 'new behaviour for high‑stakes personal decisions is rolling out soon. We'll keep tuning when and how they show up so they feel natural and helpful,' according to OpenAI's statement via The Guardian. To ensure this isn't just window dressing, OpenAI is gathering an advisory group of experts in human-computer interaction, youth development, and mental health. The company said in a blog post, 'We hold ourselves to one test: if someone we love turned to ChatGPT for support, would we feel reassured? Getting to an unequivocal 'yes' is our work' OpenAI CEO says that the new update is.... This change follows user complaints about ChatGPT's earlier personality tweaks. According to the Guardian, CEO Sam Altman admitted that recent updates made the bot 'too sycophant‑y and annoying.' He said, 'The last couple of GPT‑4o updates have made the personality too sycophant‑y and annoying (even though there are some very good parts of it), and we are working on fixes asap, some today and some this week.' Altman also teased future options for users to choose different personality modes OpenAI is also implementing mental health safeguards. Updates will include screen-time reminders during long sessions, better detection of emotional distress, and links to trusted support when needed

UP CM Adityanath Opens Vidhan Sabha's Renovated Dome, Joins All-Party Meet
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inaugurated Vidhan Sabha's renovated dome ahead of the Monsoon Session of Uttar Pradesh Assembly that will commence tomorrow. He also inaugurated the newly renovated Assembly Mandap, Assembly Hall No. 15, and the VIP lounge. Following the inauguration, the CM participated in an all-party meeting to discuss the upcoming Monsoon Session. Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana convened the all-party meeting before the monsoon session, in which, alongwith CM Yogi, leaders from both the ruling side and the opposition were present. Key issues were discussed during the session. Present at the meeting were Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, Minister Sanjay Nishad, Om Prakash Rajbhar, Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra, BSP MLA Umashankar Singh, MLA Kunwar Raghuraj Pratap Singh, among others. The Monsoon Session of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha is scheduled to begin from August 11, as per an order issued by the Assembly Secretariat on July 26. The order stated, "Sri Rajyapal, Uttar Pradesh has summoned the Uttar Pradesh Eighteenth Vidhan Sabha to meet at 11.00 A.M. on Monday, the 11th August, 2025, in the Vidhan Sabha Mandap, Vidhan Bhawan, Lucknow for its Second Session of the year 2025". The Assembly will now come under the surveillance of state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras. It will start as a pilot project in this monsoon session and will be fully implemented from the upcoming winter session. Through this technology, not only security but also the presence, activities and performance of the MLAs will be analysed. AI technology will make the working style of MLAs more transparent, and the world's most advanced cameras will be installed in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. These AI-based cameras will have facial recognition technology, enabling them to identify the names and faces registered in the list of MLAs. Also, a detailed profile of every MLA will be fed into the system, which will include name, party, constituency, gender, date of birth, photo and other personal details. With the help of AI technology, it will be recorded which MLA came to the assembly, for how long he stayed, on how many topics he spoke and which topics he covered in the speech. Not only this, but AI will also do topic-based content analysis. Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Satish Mahana, described this entire system as a positive initiative. He said, "This is not a step of monitoring, but to increase transparency and accountability. MLAs are anyway under the surveillance of the public, so no one should have any objection." Earlier this year, the Budget Session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was held from February 18 to March 5. The session lasted over three weeks, during which the state's ₹8 lakh crore budget for 2025-26 was presented. Meanwhile, on Friday, CM Yogi Adityanath visited Kakori Shaheed Memorial, dedicated to freedom fighters of 'Kakori Kand', for the closing ceremony on the 100th anniversary of the historic event. CM Yogi also celebrated Raksha Bandhan with young girls. Deputy CM KP Maurya and State Minister Jaiveer Singh were also present at the event. He also planted a tree sapling at the Kakori Shaheed Memorial. The Kakori Train Action or Kakori Conspiracy was a train robbery that took place at Kakori, a village near Lucknow, on 9 August 1925 during the Indian Independence Movement against the British colonial rule. Hindustan Republican Association organised the robbery, and more than 40 persons were arrested in this incident. They were finally sentenced to death by the British government, and also severe punishments were given to those people who helped with this incident. The Uttar Pradesh government, under CM Yogi, renamed the 'Kakori Kand' to 'Kakori Train action' in 2021, as the word 'Kand' denotes a sense of insult to this incident under India's Independence struggle, said the UP government officials. Earlier, on Thursday, CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 222 development projects worth Rs 659 crore in Bahjoi, Sambhal district. While addressing a large public gathering, he spoke on the preservation of Sambhal's religious heritage, historical injustices, and political opponents. Describing Sambhal as a symbol of Hindu faith, CM Yogi targeted foreign invaders, Congress, and Samajwadi Party, warning that "those who sin with Sambhal will face severe punishment for their actions
