KITE, Navy Children School sign pact
The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the technical arm of the General Education department, and Navy Children School (NCS), Kochi, a CBSE institution under the aegis of the Naval Education Society, have entered into an agreement whereby KITE will extend comprehensive support across key educational domains. Under the partnership, cutting-edge AI and Robotics laboratories fully equipped with Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) tools will be established to foster an engaging and hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning environment for students. K. Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE, and Commodore Ben H. Berson, vice chairperson of NCS Kochi, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here on Monday. KITE will spearhead capacity-building initiatives by conducting structured training programmes for teachers aimed at enhancing their proficiency in digital pedagogy, ISP integration, and innovative classroom practices. The initiative will also promote the effective use of smart classroom technologies to enrich the overall teaching-learning experience, according to a communication. The partnership will see the introduction of KITE's acclaimed Little KITEs IT Club programme at NCS Kochi, fostering student-led innovation through hands-on projects in coding, robotics and artificial intelligence. Additionally, KITE will extend access to its vast digital resources, including the KITE VICTERS educational channel platform, enabling students to engage in content creation and showcase their projects to a wider audience. 'This national-level initiative reflects our commitment to democratising digital education,' a release issued here quoted Mr. Sadath as saying. 'We are not just providing technology, but building an ecosystem where Navy schoolchildren can thrive in the digital age, supported by infrastructure, training, and innovation platforms. KITE's multidimensional support perfectly aligns with our vision for 21st-century education, offering our students unparalleled exposure and opportunities in emerging technologies,' said Mr. Berson.

Kerala sets national milestone by mandating robotics education for Class X students
In a historic move that sets a new benchmark for educational innovation in the country, Kerala has become the first State in the country to mandate robotics education, including hands-on experiments, for all tenth-grade students. Starting from the new academic year, over 4.3 lakh students across the State will dive into the world of robotics through a revamped ICT (Information and Communication Technology) curriculum. The new textbook for Class X includes a dedicated chapter titled 'The World of Robots', which will equip students with the skills to design circuits, use sensors and actuators, and control electronic devices through computer programming. The initiative, which is being facilitated by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), follows the successful introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning for all seventh-grade students in the previous academic year. AI learning has also been incorporated into the new ICT textbooks for Classes VIII, IX and X this year. General Education Minister V. Sivankutty had in March announced the completion of distribution of 29,000 robotic kits to high schools across the state. Each robotics kit includes components like Arduino breadboards, IR sensors, servo motors and jumper wires. Students will begin by building an automatic hand sanitiser dispenser that detects hand movement, and progress to creating AI-powered smart doors that recognise faces using the 'Face Detection Built-in Model' within the Pictoblocks software. The new robotics learning approach aims at assisting students in solving practical problems. According to KITE chief executive officer and chairman of the ICT Textbook committee, K. Anvar Sadath, the first phase of training is already complete for 9,924 teachers on the new tenth-grade ICT textbook. Training for teachers 'KITE will arrange training for teachers solely in robotics in July and will also make provisions to provide more robotic kits, including to unaided schools following the state syllabus that require them.' The ICT textbook is being made available in Malayalam, English, Tamil and Kannada.

KITE deploys 29,000 robotics kits to schools in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram, May 18 (UNI) In a groundbreaking move, Kerala has become the first state in India to mandate robotics education for all 4.3 lakh tenth-grade students, commencing from the new academic year on June 2. The integration of robotics into the tenth-grade ICT textbook, specifically the sixth chapter titled "The World of Robots" in the first volume, will empower students to explore fundamental robotics concepts through engaging activities. These include circuit construction, utilising sensors and actuators, and controlling electronic devices using computer programming. This ambitious initiative builds upon Kerala's prior success in making Artificial Intelligence (AI) learning accessible to all seventh-grade students, another national first achieved in the previous academic year. Demonstrating a continued commitment to future-ready skills, AI learning has now been incorporated into the ICT textbooks for grades 8, 9, and 10 as well. The practical experience gained from the robotics curriculum piloted for Little KITEs (Kerala's IT club for students) has been instrumental in shaping this comprehensive rollout for all tenth graders. Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the technical arm of the General Education Department of the Government of Kerala, has already distributed 29,000 robotic kits to high schools across the state to ensure the effective implementation of this curriculum. The initial hands-on activity in the textbook challenges students to utilise components from the provided robotic kits – such as Arduino breadboards, IR sensors, servo motors, and jumper wires – to construct an automated sanitiser dispenser that activates upon detecting a hand. Progressing further, students will also delve into creating AI-powered smart home automation systems, including face-recognition-enabled smart doors. To facilitate this, they will utilise the 'Face Detection Built-in Model' within the Pictoblocks software's programming IDE, leveraging webcams on laptops and Arduino kits supplied by KITE to program door-opening mechanisms. KITE's innovative robotics learning approach is designed to equip students with the skills to address a wide range of practical problems through cutting-edge technologies. KITE has already conducted the first phase of training on the new tenth-grade ICT textbook for 9924 teachers. K. Anvar Sadath, CEO of KITE and Chairman of the ICT Textbook Committee, announced that dedicated robotics training for teachers will be organized in July. Furthermore, KITE will ensure the availability of additional robotic kits, extending support to unaided schools following the state syllabus that may require them. The ICT textbook is being provided to all students in Malayalam, English, Tamil, and Kannada mediums, K. Anvar Sadath, Chief Executive Officer, said in a release. UNI DS ARN

Verdict welcomed
The Democratic Alliance for Knowledge Freedom (DAKF) on Sunday described the Supreme Court's May 9 verdict, which quashed a Delhi High Court order directing the removal of a Wikipedia page related to court proceedings, as a milestone in protecting media freedom and citizen's freedom of opinion in the country. The judgment emphasized the importance of freedom of speech and expression under Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution and the public's right to access information, DAKF state president K. Anvar Sadath and general secretary T. Gopakumar said.
