Celebrity Traitors release date confirmed by BBC and there's not long to wait
Celebrity Traitors is underway as 19 celebrities have been whisked off to a secret location to take on the ultimate game of deception for the first star-studded spin-off
Filming for the first Celebrity Traitors is underway as the stars have been whisked off to a secret location. They will be taking on the hit BBC murder-mystery show for the chance of winning a cash prize up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice.
Host Claudia Winkleman will be on hand, just like the three highly successful series of the original show. But now, it is the celebrities turn to see if they really have what it takes to play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust.
The remarkable series, with huge names including Kate Garraway, Alan Carr, Stephen Fry, Jonathan Ross and Paloma Faith, sees them enter the iconic the castle.
It was previously confirmed by the Mirror that comedian Alan and former child star Charlotte Church were set to lead the 19-long list of big names.
With filming underway and excitement brewing, the BBC have confirmed the series will air in the autumn. Unlike the original series of The Traitors, we won't have to wait until next year.
Speaking on the line-up, excited host Claudia said: 'We're incredibly lucky these brilliant people have said yes. I'd love to say we'll take it easy on them and they'll just wander round the castle and eat toast for a couple of weeks but that would be a lie.'
Those taking part include Alan Carr, singer Cat Burns, actor Celia Imrie, singer and activist Charlotte Church, broadcaster Clare Balding, historian David Olusoga, rugby star Joe Marler, comedian Joe Wilkinson and presenter Jonathan Ross.
They will be joined by broadcaster Kate Garraway, comedian Lucy Beaumont, actor Mark Bonnar, actor and comedian Nick Mohammed, content creator Niko Omilana, singer Paloma Faith, actor Ruth Codd, actor and writer Stephen Fry, actor and comedian Tameka Empson and Olympian Tom Daley.
Ahead of the release of the series, a source told us: "There will be a huge mix of personalities - and ego sizes. Seeing how it all works out is going to be fascinating.
"The team making the show are expecting it to be quite different to the regular version because the celebrities will be less motivated by the prize fund but care far more about how they come across.
"It will be really interesting to see how the gameplay compares, along with which tactics they employ. Hopefully, one thing that will remain the same is that it will be a lot of fun to watch."
The group have been on strict instructions by production staff to maintain a low-key profile ahead of filming and were also banned from liaising with each other.
At the end of last month, the cast were pictured arriving at Inverness Airport before filming at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, as they embark on the game which test their levels of deception.
Filming for the BBC series is said to be gruelling, with former star Charlotte Chilton revealing that they would film for 17 hours a day.
"That's the hardest part. It sounds crazy - you might go 'you were only together for like 3 weeks or whatever'. But that 3 weeks, where some days like... 17 hours in a day and you're sat with those people constantly," she told the Mirror.

Liam Payne's Netflix show releases trailer in late One Direction star's last project
Netflix has unveiled a release date and first look trailer for new talent show Building The Band, featuring the late Liam Payne as a judge alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland Netflix has released a teasing snippet trailer and release date for its upcoming show Building The Band, which will feature the late Liam Payne as a guest judge. The show was filmed just months prior to the star's tragic passing. The programme adopts a Love Is Blind style format, where singers audition for each other and select their bandmates without laying eyes on them first. The The late One Direction star will be seen on the judging panel alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland. A number of other guest judges will also make appearances. The trio, along with host AJ McClean, filmed the show in the summer of last year (2024), just months before Liam Payne's sad death which saw an outpour of heartbreak across the nation. Netflix had initially postponed the show's release as producers and family members deliberated over Liam's participation in the series. However, with a confirmed release date of July 9 now set, it appears they have decided to proceed with his involvement. The show is scheduled to air over three weeks, with two episodes being released weekly on July 9, July 16 and July 23, reports the Mirror. "Liam Payne's family reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion," Netflix stated. The streaming giant has now released a first look trailer for the new show. Netflix fans may find the setup familiar, with a similar resemblance to the pods from popular reality dating show Love Is Blind. The trailer shows viewers catch a glimpse of aspiring musicians entering the pods, with Donzell stealing the spotlight. His fellow contestants are left in awe of his vocals as they tune in to form their ultimate band based on musical synergy, connection, chemistry, and talent. The footage doesn't reveal Liam or any of the judges, or explicitly reference his participation in the programme. Liam's involvement was confirmed prior to his sad death in October last year, having been part of the production shot in Manchester back in August 2024. Liam Payne tragically lost his life at the tender age of 31 in October last year following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After the heartbreaking news of Liam's death, his former One Direction colleagues issued a collective statement: "We're completely devastated by the news of Liam's passing." They continued, "In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever." The statement concluded "For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam."
