Changing rooms revamp at Grimsby skate park given go ahead
Plans to revamp the changing rooms at a skate park in have been given the green light.YMCA Humber has secured planning permission for the next stage of its project at Grimsby's Kent Street skate park from North East Lincolnshire Council.The scheme includes creating a new multi-use hall space for workshops, mentoring, and community events, as well as installing new heating, lighting and electrics.Rob Baty, YMCA Humber's head of operations, said the group was "really pleased" to get the go-ahead to extend the building.
He said: "This project is all about ensuring that the space is safe, accessible, and filled with opportunities for young people to stay active, build friendships, and develop new skills."YMCA Humber bought Kent Street skate park and the adjacent disused multi-use games areas (MUGA) from the council in 2023.The park then reopened as part of a £400,000 refurbishment project last April.The skate park and former changing rooms were then refurbished in spring last year, with the latter turned into space for a free youth club.
Other work that has been ongoing since March has included the installation of two new 2G pitches with floodlights, fencing, and upgraded access points, so that different sports, including football, netball, hockey and futsal can be played there.The youth club's expansion is set to take place later in the year, with further plans to refurbish the open-use tarmac MUGA now being put in place too, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.Listen to highlights from Lincolnshire on BBC Sounds, watch the latest episode of Look North or tell us about a story you think we should be covering here.

So I can barely walk on it. 'But we completed the marathon and we are going to do the bike in a bit. Let's see how that goes.' Chelsea are understood to be open to offers for Noni Madueke. The England winger joined from PSV Eindhoven in 2023 and scored 11 goals in all competitions last season but the club are willing to sacrifice him alongside Christopher Nkunku and João Félix, who is a target for Benfica, as they look to freshen up their attacking options this summer. They remain in contact with Eintracht Frankfurt for Hugo Ekitike but his price tag of £84m is prohibitive at this stage. Madueke was a regular started for manager Enzo Maresca last season — making 32 Premier League appearances — but he did not always stay in his manager's good books. In August, after Madueke scored in the Conference League win over Servette, Maresca told the 23-year-old England international that he must train better. Then, in December, Madueke's levels again dropped in training and so Maresca retaliated by dropping him to the bench for their game against Aston Villa. He had started their last 11 Premier League matches but was a substitute for that victory, once more told by his boss that coasting through sessions at Cobham will not be tolerated. Later that month, the forward was dropped for the matchday completely for their Boxing Day defeat by Fulham, a game in which Maresca named two goalkeepers on his bench as if to prove a point. Nkunku stayed at Stamford Bridge after a deal for the French forward to join Bayern Munich in January fell through. Nkunku arrived from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £52.7m in 2023 and scored 14 goals last season but only three in the league. He has been tried in a variety of attacking roles but has failed to impress.
