Rocker Terry Reid, who turned down Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, dead at 75

English rock star Terry Reid, who once turned down offers to front Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, has passed away. He was 75. Reid's UK rep confirmed the shocking news in a statement to the Guardian on Tuesday, August 5. Although his cause of death has not been revealed, the beloved musician's passing follows a fight with cancer. 8 Terry Reid during a concert on June 24, 1973. 'Due to medical issues arising from recent treatment for cancer, Terry has had to postpone his autumn 2025 UK, Irish and Norway,' the announcement posted on July 2 began. 'Terry is especially upset about this as his 2024 tour was so successful and he had been looking forward to playing some new towns and venues, plus old faves, as well as his first-ever dates in Norway.' 'We wish Terry a speedy recovery back to good health and will provide details about rescheduled dates for 2026 in due course,' it added. 8 Terry Reid in 1960. Alan Messer / Shutterstock A GoFundMe page set up on the rock star's behalf last month detailed Reid's cancer fight. 'Over the past several months, Terry has been courageously battling cancer as well as numerous other serious health issues,' it said. 'His fight has been quiet and brave, but it has also come at a great personal cost.' 'He's been in and out of the hospital, enduring rounds of treatment and uncertainty — and, most recently, was forced to cancel his long-anticipated six-week tour,' it continued. 'The financial strain has become overwhelming, and the medical bills are mounting by the day.' 8 The English rock singer and guitarist relaxing between shows on June 6, 1973. Born and raised in Cambridgeshire, England, Reid first came to prominence as a teen when he joined Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers as the band's frontman. 'I was very friendly with Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones,' Reid recalled during a 2024 interview with Classic Rock. 'Keith asked me to support the Stones in the States, but then shortly afterwards, Jimmy wanted me to join his new band. I was torn. 'In the end, I put the ball in Jimmy's court,' he continued. 'I said: 'You'd better speak to Keith and tell him I'm not going.' But Jimmy bottled it. He said: 'I'm not having him shoot me in the f–king leg.' Even then, Keith had a reputation.' 8 Terry Reid performs as part of Wesley Stace's Cabinet of Wonders variety show at the City Winery on June 22, 2018, in New York City. After turning Page down on the offer to join Led Zeppelin, Reid recommended singer Robert Plant and drummer John Bonham instead. Both musicians ultimately joined, and Led Zeppelin was established in 1968. 'I was intent on doing my own thing,' Reid told the Guardian last year. 'I contributed half the band – that's enough on my part!' 8 Terry Reid poses for a portrait in 1968. 'It was very flattering,' Reid told the Guardian. 'Ritchie was one hell of a guitar player.' 'My deepest condolences to his family on this terrible day.'

Michelle Obama celebrates Barack's birthday, calling him her ‘everything' after couple joked about divorce rumors

Former first lady Michelle Obama praised former President Barack Obama as her 'everything' and the 'coolest guy I know' on his 64th birthday after the longtime couple joked about divorce rumors that have been swirling for months. 'Happy birthday to my love, my best friend, my everything! @BarackObama, even after all these years, you're still the coolest guy I know,' the former first lady posted to Instagram Monday afternoon, accompanied by a photo of the pair. Advertisement The former president turned 64 Monday, with the former first lady sharing the birthday post on both Instagram and Facebook. Michelle Obama's birthday message followed months of speculation that the couple's more than 30-year marriage was on the rocks before the couple joked about the rumors during a July podcast. 'It's my husband, ya'll!' Michelle Obama said jokingly at the start of a podcast of 'IMO' in July when the former president first joined the set. 'When we aren't (in the same room), folks think we're divorced.' The former first lady hosts 'IMO' with her brother Craig Robinson. 3 Barack Obama turned 64 years old on Monday. Instagram/@michelleobama Advertisement 'She took me back!' Barack Obama quipped during his appearance, joking, 'It was touch and go for a while.' Speculation had mounted for months that the presidential couple was headed to divorce, which heightened in January when the former first lady did not attend high-profile events such as President Donald Trump's inauguration or President Jimmy Carter's funeral. 'There hasn't been one moment in our marriage where I've thought about quitting my man,' Michelle Obama said during an 'IMO' podcast in July. 'We've had some really hard times. We've had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I'm married to.' 3 Speculation had mounted for months that the presidential couple was headed to divorce. Michelle Obama/Youtube Advertisement 'Don't make me cry now,' Barack said. 'Don't let me start tearing up now.' Michelle previously had dismissed divorce rumors, including in April when she addressed questions as to why she did not join the 44th president at Trump's inauguration or Carter's funeral. 'But the interesting thing is that when I say no, for the most part, people are like, 'I get it, and I'm OK,' right?' she told podcast host Sophia Bush in April about how she spends her time. 'And that's the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with, like disappointing people. 3 Former U.S. President Barack Obama (L) greets former first lady Michelle Obama as he arrives to speak on stage during the second day of the Democratic National Convention at the United Center on August 20, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois. This couldn't be a grown woman just making a set of decisions herself, right? But that's what society does to us.' 'If it doesn't fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible,' Obama continued. Fox News Digital reached out to Michelle Obama's office for any additional comment Tuesday morning but did not immediately receive a reply.

Why Katy Perry & Justin Trudeau's Flirty Connection Isn't as Unexpected as You Think

The summer of 2025 is turning into the season of unexpected Hollywood couples: Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas, Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson, and Elizabeth Hurley and Billy Ray Cyrus. Now, fans might be adding Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to that list. While their pairing might seem random after TMZ cameras spotted the duo dining at the fancy hotspot Le Violon in Montreal, Canada, on July 28, The U.S. Sun is sharing why this unlikely pair actually makes sense. Trudeau's co-workers described the 40-year-old pop star as a 'breath of fresh air' in the 53-year-old politician's life. More from SheKnows Katy Perry Was Granted an Unexpected Win Amid This Surprsing Legal Battle With Ex Orlando Bloom They both reportedly 'share a common interest in trying to make the world a better place' and have 'been in contact for weeks after meeting at an event.' One source explained, 'Justin always enjoys nice company, and Katy is the kind of woman that really caught his attention. Justin has been single for a while and has enjoyed getting to know her. He likes her personality, and they are two people who really enjoy chatting about different topics, and they click very well so far, as they are going to see each other again very soon.' It's uncertain what will happen next since Perry is still in the early days of her split from Orlando Bloom, and they are navigating those first stages. Trudeau separated from his wife, Sophie, in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. A second Trudeau insider claimed to the media outlet that the duo has been planning this possibly romantic meetup 'for a while' and that Justin 'was very, very excited' to take her out. In addition to dinner, there was a casual walk in the park with her dog ahead of their night out on the town, per TMZ, and a July 30 Trudeau sighting at her concert, per X. Besides their single status, both Trudeau and Perry are parents. He shares three children with his ex-wife: Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11. Perry shares daughter Daisy, 4, with Bloom.
