NFL fans left stunned as new head coach 'introduces controversial religious sessions in training'

Daily Mail03-06-2025
New Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has divided opinion among fans after apparently bringing religious sessions to the franchise.
Glenn, 52, was hired by the organization in January and has been tasked with getting Gang Green to the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
And the former Lions defensive coordinator seems to be leaning on his faith - and encouraging others to do the same - as a picture of a supposed 'Jets Bible study' handout spread on social media.
'The Jets have a Bible study? [Aaron Glenn] I love you,' read the initial X post, which was purportedly taken from the Instagram story of safety Jarius Monroe.
'We need Jesus,' another said of the struggling franchise.
'Lombardi was a devout Catholic so maybe there's something to this,' a third added of the legendary Packers coach.

Others, however, were not impressed.
'If this is true I might be out on the Jets,' one fan said.
'wtf are they doing in my organization dawg,' a second added.
And a third took a shot at the team's owner, Woody Johnson, writing: 'God cant save you from @woodyjohnson4.'
The picture, which was posted on X by a Jets fan before being spread by conservative accounts, is said to derive from the Instagram account of Monroe.
Monroe's name is written in the corner of the page, while five different sections of the the page are completed.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the Jets to confirm whether the picture is legitimate.
Glenn, who was a Pro Bowl cornerback with the Jets during his playing days, previously came under fire this offseason when Aaron Rodgers criticized how his exit from the organization was handled.
Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers slammed Glenn for making him fly from California to New Jersey for an extremely brief conversation where he learned he wasn't wanted.
'I figured that when I flew across country to my dime there would be a conversation (over his future),' Rodgers said. 'The confusing thing to me is I went out there, I meet with the coach, we start talking… he runs out of the room. I'm like 'that's strange.'
'Then he comes back with the GM and I'm like all right. So we sit down and I think we're going to have this long conversation and 20 seconds in and he (Glenn) goes: 'You sure you wanna play football?' And I said 'yes' and he said 'we're going in another direction at quarterback'.
Ultimately, the Jets signed Justin Fields to a two-year, $40million contract in free agency to see what they can get out of the dual-threat quarterback.
Glenn's Jets will begin the regular season on September 7 against the Steelers.

Trump finally responds to Gavin Newsom's mocking – and busts out an old nickname to do it

President Donald Trump has hit back at California Gov. Gavin Newsom for brutally mimicking his social media style, dusting off a familiar nickname to deride his West Coast imitator in the process. 'Gavin Newscum is way down in the polls,' Trump wrote on Truth Social late on Wednesday night. 'He is viewed as the man who is destroying the once Great State of California. I will save California!!!' The president repeatedly clashed with Trump in recent months, notably in January when devastating wildfires hit Southern California and again in June when Trump sent in the National Guard to suppress anti-ICE demonstrations in downtown L.A. This month, the governor has begun savagely parodying the commander-in-chief's idiosyncratic posting style through his GovPressOffice X account, blustering about his greatness in all-caps and inventing infantile slurs with which to attack hostile media personalities, just as Trump has done for years. Newsom's team took just nine minutes to respond to the president's 'Newscum' message, replying with three snowflake emojis. They have since reposted another highly characteristic Trump post, in which the president accuses MSNBC of experiencing poor ratings, with the outraged comment: 'TRUMP IS IMITATING ME! – GCN.' Newsom's new approach has seen Kid Rock and several Fox News presenters react angrily, with Dana Perino, Tomi Lahren, Raymond Arroyo, and Trace Gallagher, all taking the bait and engaging with the governor's arch-trolling. Perino hit out at the governor on Fox's The Five by urging him to stop for the sake of his assumed presidential ambitions and asking why his wife had not stepped in to prevent him from pursuing the pranks. 'DANA 'DING DONG' PERINO (NEVER HEARD OF HER UNTIL TODAY!) IS MELTING DOWN BECAUSE OF ME, GAVIN C. NEWSOM!' came the inevitable reply. 'FOX HATES THAT I AM AMERICA'S MOST FAVORITE GOVERNOR ('RATINGS KING') SAVING AMERICA – WHILE TRUMP CAN'T EVEN CONQUER THE 'BIG' STAIRS ON AIR FORCE ONE ANYMORE!!! TRUMP HAS 'LOST HIS STEP' AND FOX IS LOSING IT BECAUSE WHEN I TYPE, AMERICA NOW WINS!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.' Lahren, meanwhile, berated Newsom and his 'team of losers' after they jokingly claimed to have confused MAGA activist Scott Presler with South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace, notorious for her anti-trans agenda. The broadcaster was accused of being 'woke' when she complained about the offense caused. Gallagher was also dispatched in ruthlessly faux-Trumpian style: 'BIRD-BRAIN TREY GALLAGHER (A SO-CALLED FOX 'NEWS' HOST THAT NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD OF) SAYS MY POSTS ARE 'CHILDISH' AND 'UNBECOMING' OF A LEADER – CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? MANY ARE SAYING FOX ('EDIT THE TAPES') NEWS SHOULD CANCEL HIS PATHETIC LITTLE 'BEDTIME SHOW' IMMEDIATELY. 'THEY ARE CALLING IT THE MOST BORING PROGRAM IN CABLE HISTORY. TOTAL SNOOZE FEST! SAD!!!' Mediaite 's Colby Hall has said that Newsom is 'shooting fish in a barrel,' describing his feed as 'an X-ray of Trumpian excess' and praising him by saying he has not merely entered 'the arena of schoolyard retorts' but 'grabbed the microphone, turned it upside down, and made the absurd impossible to ignore.' Speaking for himself last week, the governor said: 'I'm just following [Trump's] example. If you have issues with what I'm putting out, you sure as hell should have concerns with what he's putting out as president.'

Union rule D Ian Glavinovich (knee) out for season

August 21 - The Philadelphia Union placed defender Ian Glavinovich on the season-ending injury list on Thursday. The 23-year-old Argentina international is recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. Glavinovich sustained the injury on April 5 and finished the season with one goal in four MLS matches (three starts). "This is a tough moment for Ian and for the team," Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said. "We know the impact he can make, and he's approached this season, and injury, with the utmost determination and professionalism. We'll continue to support Ian as he continues his recovery." Glavinovich made his MLS debut in the Feb. 22 season opener against Orlando City SC and scored his first goal in a 1-0 victory over St. Louis City SC on March 22. The Union acquired Glavinovich on a one-year loan from Newell's Old Boys on Dec. 20, 2024. --Field Level Media

Orlando Pride sign Ovalle in women's world-record transfer

Aug 21 (Reuters) - Orlando Pride have signed winger Lizbeth Ovalle from Liga MX club Tigres Femenil for a women's world-record transfer fee, the National Women's Soccer League club said on Thursday. Ovalle joined for $1.5 million, according to a club source, signing a two-year deal with an option to extend until 2028. The 25-year-old Mexico international's transfer eclipses the $1.3 million Champions League winners Arsenal paid to sign Canadian forward Olivia Smith from Liverpool last month. Ovalle will feature in the inaugural Liga MX Femenil All-Star Game against three-time Champions League winners Barcelona on Friday before completing her move to Orlando. "I'm very happy to join Orlando Pride," Ovalle said in a statement. "I'm coming with the clear objective of winning titles and leaving a mark with the Club. I'm ready to give it my all and help Orlando Pride continue to be a leading team." Ovalle became Tigres Femenil's all-time top scorer with 136 goals and 103 assists in 294 appearances over eight years, helping the club win six Liga MX Femenil titles. She has earned 81 caps for Mexico, scoring 20 goals and playing a key role in their 2023 Pan American Games gold-medal run. The 2024 NWSL champions Orlando Pride are currently third in the standings after 16 games, 12 points behind leaders KC Current.
