PFF grades for Bears' projected starting defense in 2025

PFF grades for Bears' projected starting defense in 2025 There are high expectations surrounding the Chicago Bears heading into the 2025 season following the hiring of head coach Ben Johnson, who made a huge addition with defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, who should take this defense to the next level. The Bears made some big additions this offseason along the defensive line, including the free-agent acquisitions of defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (an experienced veteran and proven leader) and edge rusher Dayo Odeyingbo (an ascending pass rusher poised to make a leap). They also added some potential playmakers in the 2025 NFL draft, including defensive tackle Shemar Turner, linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II and cornerback Zah Frazier. With Allen taking the reins on defense, there's little doubt the unit should prosper behind their new defensive coordinator's aggressive style of defense. But there were some encouraging moments from Chicago's starters last season and for the newcomers joining the fold, as evidenced by Pro Football Focus. PFF grades (2024) for projected starters on Bears defense: EDGE Montez Sweat - 65.6 EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo - 66.1 DT Gervon Dexter Sr. - 70.3 DT Grady Jarrett - 62.1 LB T.J. Edwards - 60.7 LB Tremaine Edmunds - 59.2 CB Jaylon Johnson - 76.2 CB Tyrique Stevenson - 58.9 NCB Kyler Gordon - 76.0 S Kevin Byard - 72.8 S Jaquan Brisker - 65.3 Follow Bears Wire on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

Bears' Caleb Williams Gets Projection That Could Change Everything

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears have been working hard over the last two years to get back into contention. While last season did not go quite as planned, there were still signs of major improvement. Heading into the offseason, it was clear that general manager Ryan Poles wasn't going to hold anything back. He started off the offseason with two major trades to improve the offensive line. Both Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney were acquired. After that the Bears got aggressive in NFL free agency. Drew Dalman was signed, as were Dayo Odeyingbo and Grady Jarrett. Plenty of other moves were made in addition to those. Williams has superstar potential and he flashed some of that potential in his rookie season, but it's time to take the next step. Read more: Vikings QB JJ McCarthy Called Out in Brutally Honest Breakdown Ahead of the upcoming season, Williams has received a new projection that would shock the NFL if it came true. Chris Broussard, a notable sports analyst, has named Williams at No. 1 on his list of potential dark horse MVP candidates. "At number one, we go to Chicago. Caleb Williams," Broussard said. "I mean, it's all set up. And here's the thing, he showed enough flashes, like I would be surprised if he does not play well, cause he showed flashes. Four games over 300 (passing yards). Last seven games, 11 touchdowns, only one pick. And here's the competition: Minnesota twice, Detroit twice, San Francisco, Seattle, and Green Bay." Along with Williams, Broussard also named Baker Mayfield and Brock Purdy. All three quarterbacks are hoping to put together big-time years to take their teams to the playoffs. Read more: Aaron Rodgers Reveals What Really Happened With Steelers Talks Throughout his rookie season in 2024, Williams played in 17 games. He completed 62.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while also running for 489 yards. On the outside looking in, the roster is made up perfectly around Williams for him to succeed. He has elite weapons in D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and Luther Burden III, as well as two tight ends in Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet. With those weapons and the arm talent that Williams possesses, a breakout 2025 season is very possible. If he can play at an MVP candidate level, the Bears are going to take a big step in the right direction and be a potential playoff contender. Jeremy Sochan Sparks Trade Rumors After Teasing His Arrival In Phoenix

Jeremy Sochan Sparks Trade Rumors After Teasing His Arrival In Phoenix originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The NBA offseason is heating up as teams across the league prepare for the start of free agency in July. In Phoenix, Kevin Durant is expected to be moved sometime this month, and it seems Jeremy Sochan may know something about it. In an obvious "hint" on social media, the Spurs youngster posted his location as Phoenix, Arizona, knowing the kind of rumors it would spark. He also posted a rather cryptic video of himself in a car with friends, with no context of who they were or where they were going besides the city of Phoenix. On one hand, it's not far-fetched to call this whole thing a prank by Sochan, who may be trolling the fans and NBA media amid all the trade buzz. At 22 years old, the young power forward out of Baylor has become an important member of the Spurs rotation, and he is widely seen as a long-term player for the organization. Advertisement On the other hand, it's impossible not to draw a link between Sochan's sudden trip to Phoenix and the ongoing trade rumors regarding the Spurs and Kevin Durant. As the 2x champion makes his exit from Phoenix, many teams will be ready to make a major offer, but only three of them have been named as his ideal landing spots: the Heat, Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs. As a young team on the rise, the Spurs make the perfect destination for Durant as a place where he can win a lot of games to end his career. He could also mentor young superstar Victor Wembanyama. Sadly, for Jeremy Sochan, he'd be the odd man out as one of the ones being traded in the deal. The total package would likely have to include Sochan, Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, a 2027 first-round pick (via Hawks), and a 2029 first-round pick. As it stands, the Spurs are leading the charge for Durant (after Minnesota's shocking fall from grace), and Sochan's latest social media activity may be his way of dropping some hints to the fans. If this trade gets announced, then it will send seismic waves throughout the NBA and shift the balance of power in the West for years to come. With Durant, Wembanyama, and De'Aaron Fox, the Spurs would be major players in the West and strong title contenders for the 2025-26 season. Even at 36 years old, Durant is an elite NBA athlete and an easy 25-point-per-game scorer. Advertisement For now, it seems the process is still ongoing in San Antonio, and it could be that Sochan is the hold-up. The Spurs announced he was previously untouchable in trade talks, but it could be possible they've changed their minds over the last few days or hours. Whether he stays or goes this summer, Jeremy Sochan is going to have a role to play in the Spurs' future success (or failure). Whether he's part of the package that gets them Durant or a part of their long-term future, he's going to be an important part of their plans to improve and it seems he's completely unphased by the uncertainty thatis his NBA future.
