Brits reveal most expensive holiday mistakes from £30 Coca-Cola to £80 t-shirts
Take the quiz to see if you are an 'international money master'
HOLIDAMAKERS have revealed some of the most expensive things they've bought by accident - in another country.
A poll of 2,000 travellers found one had mistakenly stumped up £30 for a single glass of Coca-Cola in Rome, while another bought a t-shirt for £80 that they thought was £10.

Three in 10 felt they have often paid more for something on holiday because they were a tourist.
Other shocking expenses accidentally incurred by respondents included a single shot of whiskey ending up at £48.
While someone else forked out £25 for a taxi ride in Amsterdam – only to find themselves arriving at their destination after less than a mile.
The research, carried out by Post Office, showed travellers often suffer with currency confusion, as a fifth (21 per cent) admitted to getting confused about how much money is worth 'in pounds' when they go away.

Which leads to a quarter (26 per cent) paying more than expected for something.
Six in 10 correctly knew £5 sterling would get them between $6-$7 in the US, the remaining 40 per cent were clueless, with a quarter (24 per cent) of them guessing they'd get less than $6.
Probably the most common conversion for Brits – euros – also confused respondents, with almost a third (32 per cent) not knowing what £5 would get them.
Instead of the correct answer of €5-€6, 17 per cent thought it would be less than €5 and 13 per cent thought it would be as high as €8.

With nearly four in 10 (39 per cent) attempting to work out local currency rates in their own heads, it's no wonder things can go wrong.
While just over one in 20 (six per cent) will ask somebody nearby and then take their word for it, according to the OnePoll.com figures.
Laura Plunkett, head of travel money at Post Office, which commissioned the research to raise awareness of its Travel Money Card said: 'Our research reveals many travellers overestimate their ability to mentally convert currencies on the go, and that can lead to overspending.
"We wanted to highlight how easily confusion around exchange rates can impact holiday budgets - no one wants to waste time abroad worrying about money.

"It's surprising that only 19 per cent of travellers use a prepaid travel card for their spending abroad when it can allow travellers to lock in a good rate before travelling."
The study found respondents are taking measures to stop them accidentally spending a fortune on holiday keepsakes – with 17 per cent relying on currency conversion apps.
And when it comes to money safety, they are taking measures to keep their money more secure while travelling – with 49 per cent using a separate card which is not linked to their main bank account for spending abroad – keeping their 'main funds' safe from fraudsters or thieves.
Laura Plunkett for Post Office, which has a Travel App which allows holidaymakers to check exchange rates and track spending in real time, added: 'Nothing disrupts a holiday like a financial mishap. Keeping your travel money separate from your main account is a smart move to give you greater control, clearer visibility of what you're spending, and an extra layer of protection – and something 96 per cent of respondents agreed was important.

'Whether you're budgeting carefully or just want to avoid mixing travel purchases with everyday costs, this small step can make a big difference to your trip.'

Nationwide customers being paid £375 directly into bank accounts
Nationwide customers can make hundreds of pounds in free cash Nationwide customers are being urged to seize the opportunity to rack in hundreds of pounds in free payments. The building society is currently offering 3.75% AER on its One-Year Triple Access Online Saver. Despite there possibly being better rates on the market, the Triple Access Saver rate remains competitive and could land savvy households some extra money. Nationwide customers who put £10k into the account and leave it there would make £375 at the end of the 12-month period, proving that there is good money to be made. As well as existing Nationwide customers, those from other banks can also switch and sign up. Under the terms of the account, savers can withdraw three times a year without taking a hit on the interest rate. However, be warned that any more than three withdrawals will see the rate plummet to 1.25% so it's worth bearing that in mind before opening the account, Birmingham Live reports. The news follows a caution from finance experts that millions of Brits are keeping money sat in low-interest accounts which are hardly growing at all. Nationwide said: "Online saving – limit your withdrawals, keep a better rate with our limited access savings account. "Up to 3.75% AER/gross a year (variable) for 12 months. "Make up to three withdrawals during the 12-month term of this account. "Make more than three and the rate drops to 1.25% AER/gross a year (variable). "Designed for: savers who are happy to make up to three withdrawals (during the 12-month term) without loss of interest. "Savers who want to open and manage their account online using our internet bank/banking app." It comes as Nationwide recently confirmed they will be handing out another round of £100 payments to millions of their loyal customers. The bonus cash is set to be dished out in the coming weeks with the move, which was confirmed last month, being part of the building society's Fairer Share scheme, where they share their profits with customers. Over four million people are set to benefit to the tune of £100 this summer. The £100 will be paid directly into eligible Nationwide current accounts between Wednesday, June 18, and Friday, July 4. In order to qualify, customers must have both a selected Nationwide current account as well as a savings account or mortgage with the bank. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! If you have a mortgage with Nationwide, you must have at least £100 left to pay off by March 31, 2025. Households face council tax hikes and £10billion stealth levies as Reeves gets boxed into corner by shrinking economy
Economists warned the circumstances meant tax hikes are almost certain this autumn GOGGLE-BOXED IN Households face council tax hikes and £10billion stealth levies as Reeves gets boxed into corner by shrinking economy HOUSEHOLDS face council tax hikes and £10billion in stealth levies as Rachel Reeves gets boxed into a corner by the shrinking economy, experts warn. The Chancellor, who wore protective goggles during a visit to the University of Derby yesterday, learned growth fell 0.3 per cent in April — less than 24 hours after her £113billion spending review splurge. Economists warned the circumstances meant tax hikes are almost certain this autumn — along with hard-pressed town halls having to up council tax rates by five per cent next year to pay for local services. Former Office for Budget Responsibility committee member Andy King said 'the writing was on the wall for another fiscal hole' — which would trigger tax rises or possible spending cuts in the Budget. Another expert accused Ms Reeves of 'making up numbers' in her spending review as there were few clues where savings would be found. Advertisement READ MORE ON SPENDING REVIEW TAX BLOW Council tax bills to rise at fastest rate in 20 years after Reeves' review Paul Johnson, from the Institute for Fiscal Studies, said her demands that all Whitehall departments cut administration budgets by ten per cent a year were not the result of a 'serious analysis'. He also said that if Ms Reeves was forced to raise taxes, the most politically straightforward approach would be to extend the freeze on income tax thresholds. Mr Johnson added that her plans will result in a 'sting in the tail' because local authorities would have to raise their levies. More than half of Brits — 52 per cent — reckon Ms Reeves' spending review will have a negative economic impact rather than positive. Brit couple Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek are believed to have been the plane and had posted about their "magical experience" in India. Hours before the crash, the pair - who run the Wellness Foundry, a spiritual wellness centre and yoga studio - posted on Instagram about their "mind-blowing" trip. Fiongal said: "So it's our last night in India and we have had a magical experience really, there have been some quite mind-blowing things that have happened." Jamie added: "We really have been on quite a journey, and then just spending the last night here in this amazing hotel, and we have just had the most delicious Tali food. "It was a perfect way to round up the trip. Excited to share it all with you." A final video showed the pair - who have been together since 2019 - sitting in the airport ahead of their 10-hour flight back to the UK. Fiongal appeared on ITV's This Morning in January to talk about people's auras - with the Wellness Foundry describing it as their "biggest gig so far". Cops said at least 204 bodies have been recovered so far from the crash site. Along with dozens of Brits, 169 Indian nationals, a Canadian and seven Portuguese travellers were also on board. A city police commissioner said there are unlikely to be any survivors - with many passengers still trapped under the rubble. The Dreamliner lost contact just seconds after take-off, according to flight tracking website Flightradar. A final alert was last logged less than a minute after it started the journey from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. It had only reached 625ft at the time, officials believe. Seconds before the crash, the Boeing was filmed flying low over the Meghani Nagar residential area. Moments later, it disappeared behind buildings before a huge blast erupted in the distance. Thick plumes of black smoke could be seen pouring into the sky. UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: "The scenes emerging of a London-bound plane carrying many British nationals crashing in the Indian city of Ahmedabad are devastating." King Charles also said both he and Queen Camilla are 'desperately shocked by the terrible events in Ahmedabad this morning'. The US-built Boeing 787 is one of the world's most advanced airliners and the accident is the first fatal crash involving the plane. 6 Read our live blog on the Air India plane crash...
