Female Porsche racing drivers set for Scottish homecoming
The British Touring Car Championships is returning to Knockhill this weekend, drawing thousands of fans.
And in addition to the showpiece races, the battle involving another high speed car, a Porsche, is heating up with two Scottish women bidding to come out on top.
'It is an absolute dream come true to be in a Porsche. I never thought I would be able to call myself a Porsche racing driver,' said Hannah Chapman, a 32-year-old driver from Fife. STV News Hannah Chapman, 32, from Fife
'When you get younger girls come up, they'll be shocked to see a girl in a race suit,' added 19-year-old Katia Loggie from Aberdeen.
The pair are in their first year competing in a Porsche.
Involved in the Sprint Challenge, they've battled it out on circuits across the UK.
For Hannah, financial constraints have meant the prospect of turning out on her home track was not always guaranteed.
'Being from here, and I work here, I'm here every single day,' she said.
'If I didn't get to race this weekend, it would have been heart-breaking.
'I'm leading the championship as well so to get the chance to be here and hopefully maintain or extend my lead, that would be amazing.'
The lead up to the weekend racing is dominated by practice sessions – a chance for drivers to familiarise themselves for what is one of the championship's most challenging circuits.
More than 15,000 fans are expected to turn out at Knockhill this weekend, the circuit's busiest event of the year.
'The staff have been working on it since last August, since the last one,' said Jillian Shedden, Knockhill's managing director.
'It gets bigger and better each year. The fans come out to support the touring car drivers and all the support drivers.
'We absolutely love it and mother nature is playing ball this year so its looks like we'll have a great weekend.'
The touring cars are undoubtedly the showpiece races but for support drivers like Hannah and Katia, who sit first and third in their classifications, it's not the only contest worth watching. STV News Katia Loggie, 19, from Aberdeen
'It's going to be hard to reign myself in but I need to remember to be smart with my driving as well as going for it all guns blazing,' said Hannah.
Katia says she plans to throw caution to the wind.
'Definitely want a race win, that would be a successful weekend,' she said.
'[I'm going] all out, all the way.'

Football steward sacked over memes wins payout from 'Orwellian' Norwich City FC
A football steward has won an £8,000 payout after he was wrongly sacked for sending memes about politicians under his club's 'Orwellian' disciplinary policy. Gennaro Romano, 49, was sacked by Norwich City Football Club in October 2023 after sending mocked-up images of Diane Abbott and Nicola Sturgeon alongside comments about Russell Brand to the head of the academy. The steward, who had a 12-year unblemished record, apologised and said he forwarded the WhatsApp messages by accident, an employment tribunal was told. The championship club sacked him for breaching its disciplinary policies, a decision described as 'riddled with unfairness'. A Norwich employment tribunal heard Mr Romano had been working as a steward on matchdays since 2011 alongside his main job with Royal Mail. In September 2023, he was accused of sending 'messages of an inappropriate nature' to Neil Hunter, head of the Canaries' academy operations. The photos were of former Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon and MP Diane Abbott with captions about actor Russell Brand. 'This was at the time when the media was reporting that allegations of sexual assault were being made against Russell Brand,' the tribunal said. At a meeting with the club, he was shown a screen shot of two images received by Mr Hunter. Mr Romano claimed he had meant to send the photos to a friend who is also called Neil, but had forwarded them to his colleague by accident, the tribunal heard. The Carrow Road steward admitted the pictures were 'not nice', and apologised a number of times throughout the process, the tribunal was told. But club managers decided that he had not shown 'sufficient understanding or remorse', and sacked him. Upholding Mr Romano's claim, the tribunal said the club's decision-making process had been 'riddled with unfairness'. 'It was not one which any reasonable employer would have taken,' it added. Describing the club's actions, the tribunal said: 'If the club intends its disciplinary policy to have such an extensive, some might say Orwellian, reach, then it is incumbent on it to make that position clear.' The tribunal awarded Mr Romano £8,300. His claim of race discrimination was dismissed.

£800m to be spent on dualling less than a third of A9
More than £800 million will be spent on the A9 dualling project before a third of it is completed, critics have claimed. To date, the SNP has spent over £520m on the A9 dualling project, with a further £300m planned by April 2027, according to figures obtained through Freedom of Information requests. The SNP first committed to fully dualling the A9 between Perth and Inverness in 2011, with a completion date set for 2025. Ministers scrapped that target in December 2023, admitting the dualling would be delayed by a decade. So far, only two of the 11 sections on the A9 between Perth and Inverness have been completed: Kincraig to Dalraddy and Luncarty to Pass of Birnam. The Tomatin to Moy section has only recently entered construction and was planned for 2027, but is now not expected until spring 2028. The other eight sections remain in planning, design, or procurement stages. One year after awarding the contract for the Tomatin to Moy stretch, Scotland's transport secretary visited the site on Monday to meet with workers. Fiona Hyslop said work is 'progressing well' and defended the updated timescales rollout. She said the work is on target and added that drivers will already see improvements as changes are made to the A9. '[The staged dualling approach] is a practical way of making sure we can get delivery of 50% of A9 dualled for 2030, 85% by 2033, and completion of 100% by 2035,' Hyslop said. 'We've looked into every option, this is the best option. From now on, you're going to start seeing work at the north of the A9 as well as the south of the A9.' Shadow transport secretary Sue Webber argued that the SNP's ongoing failure to dual the lifeline road is a 'national shame' and urged SNP ministers to apologise to Scots for wasting this 'eye-watering' amount of money while no progress has been made. 'They've managed to squander £800 million of taxpayers' money and still not even a third of the A9 is dualled,' she said. 'As costs soar and progress stalls, more and more lives are being lost on the A9.
